Chapter 22
AN: This is incredibly short and ends in a really weird way but I felt the need to give you guys something because I haven't updated in two months BUT we get Davey next chapter! Yay for Davey!
Jack, Katherine and Louis all stared at the door for a few tense moments after the door slammed shut. It seemed as though no one knew what to say, until Louis broke the silence.
"They... they can't really sue you, can they?"
Jack and Katherine both turned towards him, and he didn't like the grim expressions on their faces. Katherine sighed.
"They can, and I'm guessing they probably will."
"What're they gonna sue us for?" Jack turned to look at his wife. "We didn't do anything."
"I get the impression that they have a fair amount of money?" Katherine gave Louis a questioning look, and he nodded. "Then they can sue us for whatever they want, and a judge will listen."
Jack took a deep breath and began pacing, and Louis, looking very apologetic, struggled to his feet.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to... I can leave, they'll stop if I leave."
Jack shook his head. "No, that's..." He turned and, noticing that he was standing, went over to him. "Sit down kid. Nothing to get yourself worked up over."
"Then how come you look so stressed?" The teenager gave him a look, and Jack let out a short laugh.
"Fair point." He shook his head. "Look, you ain't going anywhere, especially not while you're sick. We'll work it out."
"How?"
Jack, not knowing how to answer that, turned towards Katherine, who thought for a moment.
"Call Davey."
He gave his wife a confused look. "Davey?"
She nodded. "He's studying law in school, remember?" Jack's blank stare told her that he clearly did not remember, so she went on. "He got into Columbia on a scholarship, he just started in the fall. He probably knows more about the law and court cases than I can claim to. So we should call him."
Just a little fun fact about Davey's going to Columbia University on a scholarship, Joseph Pulitzer gave the university $250,000 to be invested in a scholarship fund appropriately named the Pulitzer Scholarship Fund for young men who wanted to go to college but couldn't afford it. Also, lets just assume they had phones in dorm rooms because I don't have a clue how that worked back then.
