"Can't catch me! Can't catch me!" Evelyn screamed at her sister. She ran as fast as her little legs could carry her but her sister Nyleve is just too fast. Nyleve pounced on her sister, pinning her in the dirt. Other cats in their camp watched them nervously. Each family of cats shared a den with another family, but the family that used to live in Evelyn and Nyleves den moved for some reason. The two kits don't understand why everyone stares at them and is afraid of them all the time. Evelyn looked up and glared at the cats watching them play. They all gasped and when back to doing what they were doing. Evelyn looked up at Nyleve. "I just don't get it, Nyleve!" "Don't get what?" "I don't get why everyone's scared of us!" "Maybe they just see how strong we are and they are jealous?" "That's obviously not what it is, Nyleve! Its something else... Maybe its out color. Yeah. It must be our color! It makes sense! Have you ever seen another pair of black and white cats? And mom always says we are special... But why should it matter?" Nyleve let go of Evelyn and sat down, thinking. She looked at her pelt, pitch black. The darkest of dark, just like cats think her heart is. She just knows that's what they think of her! To try too change the subject she asked Evelyn, "When do you think we will be apprentices?" An apprentice is a cat who is trained to be a good Exnix cat. They learn to hunt and to fight. They learn the deeper secrets of their country and what happens in it every day. Kits get to be apprentices when they are seen as ready, witch could be any time in their life, usually its around when they are 6 moons. Evelyn and Nyleve are 8 moons old. After an apprentice they become a loyalfur cat. When they become a loyalfur cat they cat their own personal colar/necklace that matches their personality and its always their siblings fur color. "We probably won't ever be apprentices the way cats look at us..." Evelyn growled. Nyleve looked away, unable to look in her sisters eyes in fear that she might be right.
