-Chapter Eleven-
"Hey....hey.....sleepy head", whispered a voice.
I opened my eyes, "Hm?", I asked blinking.
My stomach felt heavy. Too many donuts. Too many donuts. I didn't eat all of them. But I believe I ate four....don't forget that extra half. I moved my head sitting up and yawned rubbing my eyes.
"Sorry, Officer Chad", I said.
Officer Chad chuckled, he smiled, "You're perfectly fine. I kept you later than Louisa said to keep you. I didn't think you'd actually crash at ten", he teased.
I groaned, "I fell asleep?", I asked.
"Don't worry, you fell asleep in the car", he assured smiling. He was pulled over at the house. The front light was on.
"Come on I'll walk you to the door", said Officer Chad.
"You don't have to", I objected.
"No, no, I insist", he retorted getting out.
"But you-" he had already made his way around and opened the door and was extending his arms.
"But what?", he asked smiling.
Officer Chad helped me out and got my things before I could grab them myself. He walked me up to the front standing there for a moment as I turned taking my things.
I smiled, "Thank you", I said.
"You wouldn't want to forget your pepper spray in case I did anything", he said quietly as he intertwined his fingers into mine looking down at me.
"That depends on what you do", I replied.
He breathed puffing up his cheeks, "Wow.....now I'm being put on the spot....", he said. He was getting flustered again. It was adorable. I felt his hands tighten.
"So...um.....", his voice trailed off and he looked down frustrated. He had thought this through and rehearsed it so many times.
He tried as, "As you probably....already.....", he trailed off again.
He shut his eyes tightly, "I really like you! I really, really, really, like you!", he finished just spewing it out.
I giggled as he cursed under his breath, "Man that was harder than interrogating someone", he mumbled.
My heart pounded, I had really heard it from him. I was happy. Now I was flustered though. I smiled, I knew I was blushing. But now I had come up with the perfect pick up line.
"You're a lucky man Officer Chad, cuz' I ran out of my pepper spray and your too sweet to be around here", I whispered pulling him down a bit and pressed my lips against his softly.
I was a bit timid. I guess I was nervous. He pressed his forehead lightly against mine smiling. He raised it then staring. He laughed as Louisa and Cassidy were staring out the side windows. I turned seeing them too.
"Oh come on!", I said shooing them away.
Instead they came out. Louisa swatted at him, "I warned you", she said.
"Louisa!", I whispered.
"It's alright, I brought donuts", he said.
Officer Chad smiled looking down at me, "Call me Chris", he whispered.
"Alright....call me..-"
"Kathy....I know", he whispered.
"Shoo- shoo! The girl needs her sleep!", said Louisa ushering him away.
Officer Chad laughed raising his hands, "I release her from my custody", he said.
He turned walking back to his car here us snap at one another. He looked back smiling, I waved.
"Remember red means stop!", I called.
"Yes officer!", he said waving as he pulled off the curb and drove away slowly.
He waved driving off. I broke free from Louisa. I had forgotten to tell him! I sprinted onto the side walk. Louisa was laughing. "Look at her go!".
Officer Chad slowed letting me catch up.
"Yes ma'am?", he asked.
I leaned through the window standing on the curb. "I had a great time....thank you...", I said my voice trailing off. Then I added, "Maybe we can do it again some time", I whispered.
"Just call 9-1-1 ma'am", he whispered.
"Oy! What's all that ruckus!?", shouted the unfriendly neighbor
He kissed me and turned on his sirens dousing out the unkind and rowdy shouting from the elderly grouches down the street.
"Good night", he whispered.
"Good night, and thank you", I said stepping back and let him go, though I could tell he didn't want to. Neither did I.
