Chapter 29
Percy's POV
Everything felt better; there was no other way to explain it. Annabeth was going to be fine, I saw it in her eyes. In fact, she seemed eager to become more powerful. If that was the case, then I'd do the same. I'll grow infinitely stronger and become her knight in shining armor. I won't let depression consume me again, but will live happily for the love of my life. To the eyes of everyone around me, Otrega will take my place until the day comes that Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase return to their family.
Third Person POV
Otrega had just teleported back to the training room which is where he came from. He figured that he appeared there because that's where his subconscious teleported to right before he went to Annabeth. Not aware of how much time had passed, Otrega stretched out his senses to see if was needed at the moment for a match or something. Sure enough, the demigod felt a stressed out Chaos getting ready to postpone his match again.
Before an official announcement could be made, Otrega flashed in front of Chaos and the officials of the Universal Tournament he'd been talking to. "Hey guys! I, Otrega, have arrived. Now I know I have a match to do and stuff so let's hurry up and get that done so I can get myself some double cheeseburgers. I haven't eaten in YEARS-literally." With everything that had happened, somewhere along the line Otrega must've lost the need to eat. That didn't mean he'd lost his cravings for certain foods, however.
Chaos couldn't believe what he was seeing. Not only had Percy made it back from the Void, but something came to life inside of him while he was there. Figuring it was the bond he and Annabeth had, Chaos was amazed at what their love could accomplish. He then realized that Percy was leaving his identity behind since he called himself Otrega. Things were going to be very different now and Chaos looked forward to it.
"Well.....Otrega, you can head down to the arena now if you think you're up for it. Do you know your way down?"
"Um," Otrega glanced out the window he was in front of. Through it he could see the arena far down below, telling him he was probably several stories up. It was a pretty good view. "can't I just jump down?"
"Go ahead," Chaos sighed. Without further ado, Otrega threw himself out the window, shattering the glass in the process. He was aware that it could be mended with a blink of an eye which is why hesitation didn't stop him. Hearing everyone gasp as he plummeted to the earth, Otrega smirked behind his mask. When he was a couple feet away from death, Otrega planted his feet on the wall behind him and pushed forward with enough force to stop his vertical fall altogether. After horizontally flying across half of the arena, his feet safely met the ground.
"Well that was fun." The tremendous crowd that surrounded Otrega simply gaped at him due to his entrance.
"Ladies, gentlemen, and others, I am Otrega! I am here for my match." At these words, one of the competitors came out of one of the two doors. He wore armor made out of a material that was unknown to Otrega. Wielding one heavy sword, the armored man glared at the person in front of him as if he was annoyed with the delay.
"Hey man, I'm sorry for being late and all. I had something important to do and I lost track of time. This might seem like a stupid question, but could you tell me how long it's been since the initiation?"
The fighter answered impatiently. "It's been two weeks. We're the only ones who haven't fought in the tournament yet. And I'm guessing you haven't been here to hear the rules of each match. There's no killing unless its an extreme situation of self defense, and you win if your opponent is incapacitated or gives up. Usual tournament rules, basically." He'd removed his glare but still eyed Otrega, expecting his opponent to wait and see if he'd let his guard down. Showing no such intentions, Otrega questioned the man in front him.
"Dude, do you have any food on you? I could make this match so much better if I had some food in my stomach." The suspicious man assumed that Otrega would be too weak if he didn't eat which is why he asked of him such a request. However, that was not the case. If he didn't get any food before the match, Otrega would turn irritable and end the battle quickly. He decided against explaining this to his opponent, fearing it might diminish his chances of getting food.
"No I do not have food. We need to hurry and get this match over with."
"If you say so." With a disappointed sigh, Otrega jumped back so that they were both several feet away from the middle of the arena, feeling like he could pass out at any second. Seeing as they were ready to begin, the officials set off a green flash of light in the sky, signaling the beginning of the match.
The only thing on his mind being burgers, Otrega wasted no time flashing behind his armored opponent and driving an elbow into his neck, denting his armor and making him fly forward. Not waiting for him to get back up, he leaped towards where his body landed. Before Otrega could attack again, he realized that the man beneath him was already knocked out.
Surprise laced in his voice he stated his victory. "Um, I think he's unconscious." From above, an official dropped a ladder down to the arena and a minute later held up Otrega's hand after concluding that he'd incapacitated his opponent. "Victor: Otrega!" The crowd applauded but there was no cheering, for everyone was too stunned at the display of power and speed they'd just witnessed.
"I didn't go too far, did I?"
"No, you did just fine. Most people wouldn't have stopped once they saw their opponent was unconscious. We usually have to stop the match ourselves. Good job, Otrega." He thanked the official and teleported back up to Chaos, dropping on the ground beneath the creator of the universe.
"FOOOOD!!" Otrega didn't know what had gotten into him. All these years he was able to go without eating and now it felt like he'd die if no food was put in his stomach any time soon.
"Please refrain from so suddenly appearing and yelling things like that."
"Do you you want me to die?"
"No."
"Then why am I not eating?" By now, Otrega's face was on the floor. Chaos couldn't help but smile as he flashed Otrega away to his bunker where his cheeseburger heaven awaited him.
Chaos sat back in his throne made for the tournament and announced the end of the first round. Everyone was to be competing again, but against weaker or stronger opponents depending on the outcome of their first match. The tournament would commence at dawn as it was already evening. He assumed that Otrega would spend most of his time here eating instead of watching matches, though Chaos knew that after eleven years, the man deserved it. It impressed Chaos that his will to fight and keep going hadn't died due to everything that had happened to him. He figured the sole reason he hadn't given up was Annabeth. Without her, his spirit would've shattered a long time ago.
**********************************
Otrega couldn't believe how good the food tasted. He was on a white, comfortable couch with a table in front of him loaded with burgers, fries, and milkshakes. His mask wa at his side where it was easily accessible in case anyone came to the door. Other than that, he hadn't bothered to take his assassin outfit off as he was in a rush once he saw the beauty that awaited him on the table.
A couple hours passed before he stopped eating the never ending buffet. After willing it to go away, Otrega sat and thought about his physical change. He couldn't really tell before because he was completely drained after his visit to the Void, but his power was a lot different. It felt as if it was oozing right out of him while he was just sitting down. Sensing that his power was a lot more explosive and uncontrollable, Otrega was worried. The only reason he was able not to kill his first opponent without trying was due to the tremendous exhaustion that his body had been experiencing. If he fought someone like that now, there was a good chance he'd be unable to hold back. On the other hand, Otrega feared that if he had to fight someone strong, he would lose due to his now untamed power. He didn't know how it happened or why, but his body was going through some kind of transformation. It might've just been his imagination, but he thought that he could feel all of his muscles gradually bulging. Aware that training was no longer an option and he wanted to depend less on Chaos for help, Otrega wasn't sure what to do.
After a little while, he decided to talk to his companions that would forever be inside of his head. "Alpha, Omega.......what's going on?"
"You are going through a powerful, yet very dangerous change. You've lost a great amount of your original powers, but gained so much more in its place. With every day that goes by, the control you have over the raw power that dwells within will decrease. Competing in the Universal Tournament will prove itself to be difficult, but you have to get through it Otrega."
"But how? I have no clue how to deal with this power!"
"You will soon enough." Once again, Alpha & Omega were as evasive as ever. Otrega groaned and decided to just go to bed. Walking around his personal bunker in search of a bedroom, he began to shed his assassin outfit. By the time a bed was found, Otrega was already in his boxers as he fell face first on the pillow. Little did he know that waves of power began to flow off of him as he slept, which anyone in the area who had any type of power could sense.
