Chapter 30
When Chaos felt Otrega's power in the middle of the night, he knew exactly what was happening. To conceal the power's owner from everyone else, Chaos made it so that his energy could still be sensed but not able to be located.
Throughout the night, everyone feared the aura that they sensed as it kept on growing and growing, aware that it belonged to someone that would have to be beaten if they were going to win. Some even went door to door through the bunker halls in search of whoever could be so powerful. However, Otrega's bunker wasn't in those halls but in its own private area, so it was never found. The only people who suspected Otrega were the two demigods that witnessed his great power before: Jason and Nico. Though the two knew more of Otrega than most, even they weren't sure about it due to the power being so different than what they sensed from Percy when he fought Destruction. Everyone was left to wonder that night: Who could be so powerful?

Otrega awoke and immediately sat up, not knowing where he was. A moment passed before his senses came back to him and he observed the room for the first time. The bed was in the middle of the room with a T.V., dresser, and refrigerator on the walls surrounding it. The bedroom seemed to have a square base and a high up ceiling. A door on either side of him, Otrega walked through one and found himself in the bathroom facing a mirror and sink. He then realized he only wore blue boxers before spotting a clean assassin's outfit that was neatly folded on the counter in front of him.
After taking a shower and donning the fresh clothes, Otrega looked around in search of his two legendary swords. Sensing Alpha & Omega's auras everywhere he searched, he figured that they were inside of him. Otrega held out his hands, and sure enough, a sword instantly appeared in each palm. They glowed and vibrated in his hands, radiating pure power like never before. It even seemed to draw out the seemingly untamable power that Otrega had discovered inside of himself. Willing Alpha & Omega's physical forms to disappear for the time being, he tried to press down what had been awakened inside of him. The two beings inside of Otrega spoke through his mind.
"It seems that we are also affected by your change. Use our strength wisely, for now it is dangerous for you to even wield us." Otrega was back to square one; he had completely no idea how to use any of his new powers......again. It was frustrating, but he knew this was happening for a reason, so he decided to just accept it and move on.
When Otrega walked into the living room, which resided behind the second door of the bedroom, to find another T.V., a couch, an exit, and an opening to the kitchen, Chaos appeared on the couch with a bright flash.
"Hey Chaos. I'm assuming you know all about what's happening to me?"
"Well yeah I know everything, but that's not the point. What you're going through is called your Evolution. It's when everything you've come to know as power is erased from your physical capabilities and replaced with a different type of power. The details of that power depends on the person. It's very dangerous until you master it. In fact, most people die trying."
"Oh, great." Otrega sighed and sat next to Chaos who continued.
"To be honest, I was going to force an Evolution upon you as a reward for winning the tournament, but it seems I didn't have to. It began when you went to my Void. Annabeth Chase must've sparked something inside of you that triggered your Evolution." Otrega smiled at this. In one way or another, love would always be his greatest power. It was a part of the reason why he was so loyal.
"So, my power is changing. For some reason, I feel like there's more to it than that."
"Yes, there is. Like I said, everyone's Evolution is unique to an extent, but yours is the most unorthodox I've ever seen. It's like your being reborn into an entire new being altogether. The way your body functions is changing along with your blood, organs, and bone structure."
"Wait...... are you telling me that when this is over, I won't be a demigod anymore?"
"I'm afraid it's worse than that. Your losing any ties you had with anyone by blood." Otrega realized what this meant. He wouldn't be a son of Poseidon anymore. Then his mom came to my mind.
"Chaos....... my mom.....I haven't seen her in so long, but no matter what happens she will always be my mom. I don't care what this Evolution does to me." Otrega knew that he couldn't go see his mom, but he just realized how much he missed her and it hurt. "Stop it. I am Otrega, not Percy. Percy will return with Annabeth."
"I figured as much. Just know that her blood will no longer run through your veins."
Nodding, Otrega composed himself. "That's okay. Blood was never what made her my mom anyway, but I can't say the same for Poseidon. The Olympians aren't cut out to be parents. They have no clue what it means to be one. I'll be happy to lose any family ties that I have with them."
Suddenly, Chaos tensed at the father subject. Otrega realized what he had just said and decided not to hold anything back. The two had shared their feelings with each other before, so he felt that it shouldn't be an awkward topic.
Otrega stood up and faced Chaos who also rose from the couch. As fast as he possibly could, Otrega put what was on both of their minds out in the open. "Makemeyourson."
"....What?" It was taking him a couple seconds to process the words that flew out of Otrega's mouth.
"If I win the Universal Tournament, make me your son. I think that's a fitting reward." Slowing down this time, Otrega nervously looked up at Chaos, the latter giving the former a warm smile while placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Of course, Percy." It didn't matter what kind of mask he put it on, metaphorically or not. Chaos would always see him as Perseus Jackson and Otrega accepted it.
"Thank you." A warm feeling spread through Otrega's chest, and the young man knew it was because he never felt the affection of a father the way Chaos gave it. Putting his mask on to conceal the smile plastered on his face, Otrega asked one last thing. "Chaos, there's one more thing I need you to do. Please visit my mom and Paul. Tell them what they should know.......and I was wondering if you could make them immortal. Please Chaos, I don't know how long I'll be away from Earth and they're not getting any younger." He knew it was a lot to ask and that he was probably pushing it, but it would've been too much for him to bear if his mom died before he could see her.
Without hesitation or even a change in expression, Chaos repeated his previous words. "Of course, Percy." Speechless, Otrega threw himself into a hug with the creator of the universe, not knowing how else to show the emotions swelling up inside of him. The embrace lasted a couple seconds before Otrega pulled himself together and backed away.
"I'm always one for a manly hug," Otrega said as a lousy cover-up. He tried to fake it, but a tear had been shed on the other side of his mask.
"Yes, I'm sure you are."
"Don't you have a tournament to run or something?"
"Don't you have a tournament to watch or something?"
"Touché." The two flashed out to their respective places.
Line Break
Jason was face to face with his second round opponent in the middle of the arena. His first was finished off rather easily, but this one seemed like he'd make the match a little more interesting. With red, shoulder-length hair and two foot long daggers in each hand, he wore no armor. One look into his black eyes, and anyone would be able to tell that he was no push-over. That excited Jason. He also had regular clothes on instead of armor as he twirled his electric-blue sword. Having cut his hair so that it was thick and wavy on top (with the help of Piper), Jason once again looked like a blond superman.
The signal to start the match was given as both men simultaneously jumped back. Jason waited to see if his opponent would make the first move, and not a second passed before he did. Rushing Jason, he began swinging his knives in a flurry of strikes that kept the son of Zeus on the defensive. It started to seem like the red-head had the upper hand, but Jason was just calmly observing the attacks that were sent his way while parrying them. Jason noticed that the man in front of him looked to be completely open if he was to start attacking. Experimentally, Jason went to kick him in the chest, but the attack was effortlessly countered as the red-head tried to take advantage and slice at his leg. Before his leg could be cut open, Jason spun his entire body and kicked the dagger out of his hand before it could reach his other leg. This was done too fast for the red-head to react as Jason swung at his empty hand, opening up his palm so that he couldn't hold a weapon with that hand anymore. The wounded competitor jumped back to create some distance between the two of them.
Jason paused and looked into his eyes as the blood dropped to the ground, wondering if the match was already won. However, one look at his expression and anyone could tell that he wasn't giving up that easily. Grinning at the sight, Jason charged at the red-head who slipped past him and round house kicked the back of his opponent's head. Jason stumbled as soon as another kick swept his feet out from beneath him causing him to fall head first. "I'm always getting hit in the head," he thought. His head throbbed, but he knew he shouldn't stay on the ground. Before another attack could be delivered, Jason used the winds to push himself away from the enemy in front of him. Watching Jason land on his feet a couple of yards away, the red-head decided it was time to reveal his true power.
He started to glow a sinister red and levitated a foot off the ground. The sky above darkened, making chills run down the entire audience's spines. Jason had no clue what was happening, but he figured that he was gonna have to get serious. Before he could do this, however, a flash of red zoomed passed his cheek, causing him to be painfully blown in the other direction. Realizing that the red flash was his opponent, Jason went to strike at it only for the flying red head to rush him repeatedly. Over and over Jason received brutal blows all over his body. He was being tossed around the arena, the speed of the red-head seemingly to much for him.
With each pain-filled attack, Jason's frustration grew. He didn't want to have to use his powers this early in the tournament, but it seemed like he was gonna have to give the audience a small show if he wanted to win. The next time the red-head rushed him, Jason exploded in electricity, the counter attack causing the red flash to finally stop his attack and drop to the floor. Jason wasted no time flying up into the sky faster than most could see and completely coating himself in electricity. When the red-head stood up, Jason in the form of a lightning bolt went straight through his chest and caused an explosion. The smoke cleared moments later to reveal Jason walking out of a crater with his opponent incapacitated in the middle of it. Cheers filled the arena for such an awesome match. Jason waved at everyone and smiled as he was named the victor.
He jogged over to his assigned exit to find Piper, Thalia, Nico, and...Otrega waiting for him. "You can't think of him as Percy anymore. He has a mask and a new name for a reason."
"Hey guys. Thanks for watching my match."
"It was pretty cool."
"A little overboard at the end, Sparky."
"Yeah, way to take it easy on him. He could've died." Jason sighed at another one of Nico's negative comments.
"Uh-oh, emo alert!" Everyone laughed at Jason's never ending joke. Everyone except for Nico, that is.
"Relax death-breath, my bro knew what he was doing."
"Thank you, Thalia."
Otrega spoke up. "Yeah. Besides, that was an insanely cool ending."
"Yeah, I know." Piper punched her husband's arm, jokingly telling him to shut up. She then became serious as her gaze turned towards a chuckling Otrega. Noticing Piper's stare, he remembered what he'd met up with them for.
"Oh yeah! So, now that Jason's here, there's something you guys need to know. I went to see Annabeth yesterday...at least I think it was yesterday," Otrega quickly shook his head as everyone stared silently at him with wide eyes, "Anyway, I went to see her and in the process I was able to see Percy, too. They would want you to know, that when the time comes, the two of them will return home to Camp." The area became uncomfortably quiet, and Otrega had no clue what was going through any of their heads.
Exiting the situation, Otrega spoke one last statement. "I don't really care if you believe me, but I thought it was only fair to let you know. See ya!"
