- Do you believe in soulmates? -
Taehyung's POV
The bell rang, signaling the end of yet another long, tiring, and boring day at school. "Meet you outside?" I asked, seeing him flash a smile, moving his head up and down in a nod while he slung his bag over his shoulder, a textbook in hand. "Yeah. Meet me in the parking lot."
I nodded, leaving the classroom, and walking through the crowded hallways, seeing the students around me step aside with ease. Fear flashed through people's eyes, whispers head all around me. "Isn't that the new guy?" One asked, my ears picking up the question. "Yes! He's the one who stepped into the fight this morning!"
I rolled my eyes, finally stumbling upon my friends, the three of us heading for the front doors of the main building. The whispers rushed around us, fearful glances sent our way as we headed for the door. "Remind me why we're going to Jungkook's house?"
"He calls it a loft," I corrected, glancing at RM. "And because he has this project he has to get done. The teacher paired him with Hoseok but I requested him as my partner since I'm new and all." Jimin rolled his eyes, snickering lowly. "Smooth?" I laughed, punching his shoulder.
When we hit the parking lot, I spotted Jungkook leaning up against a car, his eyes focused on his phone. His eyebrows were furrowed, a look of anger spread across his features. I felt my blood boil, my wolf growling into the connection. Why was he mad?
The students around us turned silent, eyes big as they stared us down. I headed straight for my mate, fists clenched slightly. "Yo, Jungkook!" I shouted, seeing his head snap up, angered eyes locking with mine. Then, in a flash, the anger was gone.
"Hey, guys," He mumbled, turning off his phone and shoving it into his pocket. I walked closer to him, leaning against the car as well. "Something wrong?" I asked, seeing his eyes scan over the parking lot, a sigh leaving his lips. "I guess you could say that."
Jimin smiled, arms crossing over his chest. "Who do we need to beat up?" He teased, flashing a wide grin. "Leave it to us, we got this under control." Jungkook cracked a smile, a laugh leaving his lips. I found myself smiling too, my stomach doing a flip. What was this feeling?
I'm not sure if I liked it.
"No, I can't ask you guys to do that. They're still my friends after all." He smiled, eyes flickering up to land on three males at the other end of the parking lot. I stifled a growl, looking at Jungkook. "Well, if they won't leave you alone, then you know who to call," I teased, nudging him playfully.
"Let's start working on that assignment, yeah?" He nodded, pulling the car door open, my eyes widening. "Oh shit. This is your car?" He shook his head, pointing to a male taller than the rest in the group at the other end of the parking lot. My eyes landed on him, his lips turned up in a smile.
"It's his. His name is Jin, but since I drove and I have the keys, I think I'm in charge of who takes the car, yeah?" He teased, laughing. I laughed too, hopping into the passenger's seat, my friends getting in the back seat of the car. Jungkook shut his door, putting the car in park and driving out of the parking lot.
Jungkook's friends came running after the car, yelling loudly, arms in the air. I snickered, hearing Jungkook scoff. He stepped on the gas, speeding down the street. "They can walk," He spat, eyes focused on the road, taking a right turn at a stoplight. "How far is your loft from here?" Namjoon asked.
"Not far. A good five more minutes. A walk to school, from my loft, is thirty to forty-five minutes, but the drive is, like, seven." Jimin hummed, glancing out the car window, a look of pure excitement on his face. I cocked an eyebrow, staring ahead, mind-linking him.
"Why do you look so excited?" His face turned emotionless, a huff leaving past his lips. "You realize that we've never been in a car before, right? We run everywhere." Namjoon laughed into the link, a smirk twitching up onto my features. "Yet we also have never been on a plane until a little over a week ago. Even then, you weren't as excited as you are now."
"You know what, V? Go fuck yourself." I laughed aloud, shaking my head while Jungkook glanced my way. "You good?" I nodded, flashing a smile. "Oh I'm fine, don't worry." Jungkook flashed a smile, nodding then turning his attention back onto the road. About a minute later, we were pulling up in front of a two-story building.
Most likely his loft.
Jungkook shut off the car, sighing, leaning his head back on the seat. I watched him, seeing his eyes shut tightly, his lips forming a perfect line. "You good?" His eyes opened, something flashing within them that I couldn't quite make out. "Yeah."
He's lying.
We got off the car, heading for the door, the keys in his hand. He unlocked the door, pushing it open, sighing loudly as he entered first, my friends and I behind him. "Welcome to my loft," He spoke, his voice slightly deeper than before and a laced with a bit of annoyance.
Jimin's jaw dropped when he took in the sight, my own eyes widening. Holy shit, he's living in luxury. "Why do you look like you just saw your favorite celebrity?" He asked, laughing, throwing his bag on the floor beside a chair. "How much did this stuff cost?!"
Jungkook furrowed his eyebrows, looking at us with shock. "This? Not as much as you think. A few chairs, a used couch, a small dining table, and a round coffee table isn't as much as you'd expect it to be," He said it like it was cheap. I looked around, seeing a staircase that led to the upper part of the house.
The bottom floor held a kitchen and a living room. The kitchen had a fridge, two small counters, cabinets, a sink, stove, and dishwasher, and a small island. There was a rectangle dining table just a few feet away from the island, pressed against the wall with four chairs pushed against it.
The living room consisted of a light grey couch, two foldable chairs, two small round coffee tables, a rug, and a small stool. There was a flat-screen TV mounted on the wall, and a plant placed neatly on a stand in the corner of the room.
From what I could see upstairs, there was a bed, a rug, a few paintings, a desk, what looked like a closet, and a bathroom. I hummed, continuing to scan over the decorations. "So, all of this is yours?" I asked, seeing Jungkook sit down on the couch, going through his bag. "Yes and no."
"The loft was purchased by Hoseok, so he's technically the owner. He pays the bills and whatnot. Most of the time he isn't even here though, so this place is practically mine." I nodded, seeing Jimin and Namjoon take a seat in the foldable chairs, leaving me to sit with Jungkook on the couch.
"So, did he buy the furniture too?" Jungkook cracked a small smile, shaking his head. "He bought all the appliances. I paid for the furniture. I used whatever money I had left from my debit card before my parents closed it." I cocked an eyebrow, hearing him sigh.
Jungkook pulled out a history textbook, setting on the coffee table along with some papers. "Do you know anything about the revolutionary war?" He asked, nudging me gently. I snickered, glancing at my friends. "Am I supposed to?"
"Yes, actually."
"Oops?" He laughed, lips twitched up into a wide smile, teeth on display. His smile resembled a bunny. I smiled too, glancing down at the paper and snatching it from the table. "What about you two idiots? Do you know anything about the revolutionary war?" Jimin rolled his eyes, leaning forward.
"Why the fuck would I know about a war that didn't even apply to our fucking home country?" I growled into the mind-link, hearing Namjoon sigh. "The American Revolutionary War, also know as the American war of independence," He spoke, forearms placed on his knees, fingers intertwined.
"It was a war between Great Britain and the thirteen colonies." Jungkook nodded, smiling, and handing Namjoon the paper. "Seems you guys do know something about it." Namjoon smirked, looking over the paper then handing it back. "So, your job is to explain the significance of the battles and what happened?"
"Pretty much. The key points of the essay will be the battle of Saratoga, also known as the turning point, and the battle of Yorktown." I furrowed my eyebrows, looking at the paper. "A PowerPoint?" I asked, seeing the instructions listed on the paper. "Yeah, Mrs. Griffith is extra like that."
"Do we have to present this too?" He nodded, frowning. "More than likely. She's a huge fan of presentations, so I wouldn't be surprised." I groaned, seeing Jungkook open up his textbook and flip to a specific page. "Guess we should get started now."
We began to work, both Jimin and Namjoon helping out the best the could. After about an hour and a half of writing the paper, Jungkook closed the textbook and smiled. "You guys hungry? I can make something." I glanced at my friends, their eyes pleading me to say yes.
"Are you sure?" Jungkook smiled more, nodding. "Yeah! I mean, I usually only cook for myself, but I don't mind the company! You three are actually really cool. I've had a lot of fun today, more than I've ever had on a school day." I smiled, leaning back on the couch.
"Just make yourself at home while I get started. Is spaghetti okay with you?" I nodded, seeing my friends do the same. When Jungkook was out of earshot, Jimin leaned forward, smirking. "He's definitely a fucking keeper." I rolled my eyes, trying to stifle another growl. "What was your deal? Telling him that this isn't our home country?"
"It's not."
"I know it's not but he doesn't need to know that!" I whisper shouted, glaring at Jimin. "Oh shut it, V. He needs to know eventually. If you don't tell him then he'll find out. He looks stubborn, like someone who won't let something go until they figure it out." I sighed, nodding in agreement. He did look stubborn.
"When do you plan on sharing the secret?" I growled lowly, glancing up at Jungkook who was beginning to boil water. "I don't want to put him in danger, okay? If I can keep the secret from his as long as possible, then it'll be better." They frowned, growling lowly.
"You better tell him, Taehyung."
I gulped, looking away from my friends. I knew they were right, but I already put my friends in danger, I can't risk putting someone else in danger too. They're in the trouble they're in because of me, not because of themselves. I sighed, pushing the hair out of my eyes and glancing at Jungkook.
It wasn't long before he announced that dinner was ready, serving us three some while he set the table. We offered our help but he simply shook his head and smiled. We sat at the dining table, Jungkook and I on one side and Jimin and Namjoon on the other.
It was peaceful, nice, something I honestly didn't imagine me liking. A nice dinner with friends while we laughed and got to know one another a little bit more, sharing likes, dislikes, and even more. I sighed, seeing Jungkook stand up and grab the bowls, setting them in the sink and turning on the water.
"How long can we stay?" I asked Jungkook, knowing it was already close to seven. He hummed, glancing back at me. "Uh, honestly however long you'd like. Not like I have anywhere to go tonight anyway." He smiled, beginning to wash the dishes we used.
"Thanks, Jungkook. For you know, dinner and allowing us over." He stopped, looking back at the three of us and flashing that specific smile that resembled a bunny. "Anytime, really! I enjoy your-" He was cut off by the door to the loft slamming open, an enraged Hoseok running in and grabbing my mate.
He pinned him to the wall, fist ready to throw at Jungkook. I acted on impulse, my wolf growling into the connection, my legs sprinting over to them and grabbing Hoseok by his hair. I roughly tugged him away from Jungkook, slamming his head into the wall and kicking his shins, seeing him fall to the ground.
I did it again, slamming his head into the floor, overcome by rage at the thought of him hurting my mate. "Get away, Jungkook!" I shouted, seeing him push off the wall, Namjoon grabbing him and pulling him away from me. Hoseok groaned in pain, my hands working to pin his hands behind his back.
"What did I say, bitch?" I spat, pressing my foot against his spine. "I fucking warned you! I said leave him alone!" I roared, the whole loft going silent. I didn't even register the two other males that entered behind Hoseok, my vision clouded by rage.
"You're in some deep trouble." I almost growled, my wolf threatening to take over. "V! Stop!" Jungkook shouted, eyes big, filled to the brim with shock. I didn't see any fear, something that shocked me. Why wasn't he afraid? "He almost hurt you," I spat, holding back a growl.
"I can't ask you to get yourself involved in this mess, please. Just let him go." I shut my eyes, grabbing his hair again and whispering in his ear. "Mark my words, Hoseok, if I see you touch Jungkook in any way, consider yourself dead." He winced in pain, my hands dropping his body to the floor.
Jungkook was out of Namjoon's hold by now, my friends standing there, eyes narrowed. I cocked an eyebrow, looking at them. "Why do you two look like you're in some trance?" They didn't respond, a low growl leaving their lips. "Mate," They both whispered, my eyes growing big.
Oh for fuck's sake.
I felt my wolf's rage, my blood beginning to boil as he opened the connection even more, pushing at the surface. I got to get out of here. I have to get my friends out of here. I glared at Hoseok, seeing his eyes wide as he attempted to push himself off the ground.
"Leave, now!" I roared, the command shocking everyone in the room. Hoseok and his two friends were out the door in seconds, sprinting out of the loft at lightning speed. I was struggling to hold my wolf down, my eyes darting back to my friends. My eyes flashed blue for a split second, a growl threatening to escape.
"Get me out of here," I spat, fists clenched, eyes shut tightly. "Hurry." My friends instantly jumped into action, thanking Jungkook for having us over and explaining how we needed to go. "Wait! Please! Hold on you can't leave yet!" Jungkook shouted, grabbing my hand in his own, sparks set off in my body.
I met his eyes for a split second. He was pleading me to not leave. I felt terrible, but how was I supposed to be able to control V? He was enraged, ready to kill. I can't risk him sharing the secret. I fought with my mind, eyes scanning over my friends, their eyes scanning over me.
"Please. Don't leave me alone..." That's all it took for me to pull my mate into me, my arms wrapping around him and my face burying in his neck. My wolf took control while I shut my eyes, preventing Jungkook from looking into them. I kept my mouth shut, yelling at V to not say anything.
Jungkook tensed up, his head by my shoulder, chin touching it. A few seconds later, he was leaning into my embrace, arms wrapping around me lightly while I held him. I fought back growls and the need to mark him, my wolf going crazy. I fought for control, managing to win.
"Meet me in the forest," I mind-linked my friends, hearing them growl into the link. "And leave you? Are you fucking kidding?" I stifled another growl, holding my mate tighter. "I said meet me in the forest! I'll be fine!" I stole a quick glance, my eyes saying all they needed to know.
They bid their goodbyes and rushed out before Jungkook had a chance to say anything. We mind-linked until they hit the forest, telling me to be careful then shutting off the link. I took a deep breath, pulling away from Jungkook slowly, seeing his eyes open.
"How did you do that?" He asked, sounding a little breathless. "How did I do what?" I asked in return, voice a little strained as my wolf howled into the connection, trying to take control. "The hug, it- it- it calmed me down." I looked away, shrugging. "I don't know, Jungkook." He scoffed, crossing his arms over his chest.
"I'd love to believe otherwise." I met his eyes, my nerves growing, eyes scanning over him. "Why can't you tell me? The sparks, the hug thing? Why can't you just tell me?" I shut my eyes, pinching the bridge of my nose. "You don't understand." He pressed his chest up against mine, removing my hand from my face, looking me in the eyes.
"Then make me understand."
I gulped, finding myself looking into his brown eyes, getting lost in them. My mind was spinning, thoughts about telling him being shout inside my head. Do I tell him? Do I risk his safety? Do I be selfish, keep the secret to myself? Fuck.
"Jungkook, it's-" I sighed, cupping his cheek. "It's not that easy," I spoke softly, my own tone surprising me. He too seemed surprised by my actions, but he didn't push my hand away. "Don't you trust me? I mean, I know we just met, but have I proved myself untrustworthy?" I shook my head, flashing a small smile.
"It's not that, Kook," I spoke, the nickname rolling off my tongue with ease. "I-" I paused, finding the words I wanted to say unable to come out. He stared up at me, frowning a bit, leaning into my touch. "You can tell me."
"I don't want to get you hurt," I spoke, seeing his eyes widen. "And if I tell my secrets then you're bound to get hurt. I'm trying-" I paused, taking a deep breath. "I'm trying to protect you, okay? If I share my secrets, I'll be putting your life at risk." He shook his head, holding my hands in his. "I can take care of myself, okay?"
His tone was soft and gentle. "I can look out for myself, you don't have to protect me. I just want to know. I want to know why you three have shown up into my life and why I finally feel like I fucking belong here. Like, in some way, I'm wanted." I frowned at his words. Did he not feel wanted before?
"Tell me, please. I won't tell anyone." I bit my bottom lip, sighing again. "Do you believe in soulmates?" I asked, my voice just barely above a whisper, my eyes shut. "Like, as in, partners for life? People who connect better than anyone else? People who are made for one another?" I nodded, opening my eyes again.
"Yeah, soulmates." His eyes scanned mine, a small smile twitching up upon his face. "I'd like to believe that they're real." I took a deep breath, taking my hand and cupping his cheek again. "Feel this?" I asked, the sparks multiplying by the second, a gasp leaving his lips as my other hand intertwined with his.
"The sparks? I feel them." I nodded, flashing a small smile. "You wanted to know what it means, right?" He nodded again, eyes big, bright, and filled with curiosity. "These sparks have more meaning than you'd think, but to put it in simple terms, soulmates exist,"
"And these sparks mean that you're my soulmate."
