THREE

Sometimes, things get harder before they get easier.

It was a maze, Stark had an actual maze in his house. Exchanging a confused look with Peter, Louise looked back at the door they had entered, which had been closed behind them.

"So now what do we do?" She asked him, he shrugged.

"I have no idea." He answered. She sighed.

They could have stood there all day, they probably would have, had a strange roar not echoed from one corridor. The lights flickered and then went off.

"Peter? What was that?" She asked him, gripping the gun Stark had gicen her in her hands, touching the trigger, but not pressing it.

"I really don't want to find out." He sounded nervous and she couldn't help but wonder if he had done this type of thing before.

The two ran down the corridor, barely able to see and hearing the roar again, but this time closer.

They reached a dead end and stopped still, the lights came back on, but not as bright as they had once been.

"Is it too early to say we might possibly die?" Louise asked the boy, who looked at her, the same fear in his eyes as was in hers.

"I think not." Peter agreed with her, before a strange, robotic lion turned the corner and looked them both dead in the eye.

"What the hell?" Louise questioned.

"I have a plan." Peter said sounding surprisingly confident.

"Great, let's go with that." Louise nodded, he frowned at her.

"You don't know what it is." He pointed out, she shrugged.

"Well you'd better hurry up and tell me then." She shot back, he laughed and quickly told her his plan. She nodded and allowed him to distract the creature, before she moved in with her attack.

She tore it apart, limb by limb with the use of her curse. She put all her concentration into it and when it was finally broken, she and Peter celebrated all too soon.

The ground opened up. And when she got up, in a strange corridor, she realised that she had lost Peter.

The floor opened up again, she was sending a theme here, and she grabbed a rope that was hung half a metre in front of her and stopped herself.

Looking around for a way out, she spotted another rope, hanging just out of her reach. She would have to jump it. Cursing Stark and hoping she didn't die, she jumped, scrabbling for the rope, but missing it. As she began to fall, she managed to catch hold of a tiny ledge in the wall. That was close.

She tried to catch the rope, but again would have to jump, so she did, this time she caught it and hung there for a while, trying to control her breathing.

"You're trying to kill me, aren't you?" She yelled into the darkness. To her surprise, she heard Stark's voice talk back to her.

"Keep going, or you won't beat Peter." Stark told her.

"Damn you Stark! I don't want to do this, the he'll did you separate us?" She yelled. "Maybe I should just drop!"

"You have no choice but to carry on, if you drop you'll die." Stark answered. "And how do you expect me to see how you're doing if you help each other?"

"Oh come on! This is not fair!" She complained. "Would you really kill me?"

"If you win I'll give you ten dollars." He told her with a sigh.

"Promise?" She asked.

"Yes." Stark said.

"Fine." She agreed. "Hey where are you?"

"I'm watching you and Peter's progress." Stark answered, "now start moving!"

"You'd think he'd be a bit nicer, but no let's just go kill off some kids." Louise muttered under her breath as she prepared herself to jump. She let go of her rope and fell through the air, just managing to grab onto the next rope.

She climbed up the rope, looking around for the next one, but seeing nothing. She cursed, how the hell was she supposed to get through this with nothing to help her? She wasn't sure why she had agreed to do this either, she should have just been smarter, and kept out of Stark's way.

And then the rope snapped, and she was plummeting through the air, with no way to stop herself falling, and no way to tell what was at the bottom.

She landed flat on her face five minutes later. Sitting up quickly and looking around, she found herself in a long corridor.

Wondering when she could get out 'of this hell' Louise kept on walking, all she was focused on was getting out of the maze, she didn't care about beating Peter and winning, she didn't care about getting better or completing it, she just wanted to leave.

"I hate this!" She exclaimed to herself, as she walked along the everlengethening corridor.

Then she heard a loud scream, she wasn't sure who it was, her instincts told her to run, but her heart told her to investigate.

So she ran towards the source of the noise. That wasn't her best plan, because she came face to face with an iron man suit. And it punched her in the face. She went flying backwards, stopping only when she hit the wall, denying it slightly. She cursed and send brick flying at the suit. It dodged out of the way.

Louise huffed and ran, ducking under the suits arm and heading towards the door it blocked. She had made it, and won as became clear when she opened the door and saw Stark waiting for her.

"I'm impressed."

"Thanks." She told him with a sigh, before exiting the maze and sitting down on the floor with a groan, he shook his head at her.

Peter opened the door, panting for breath. "Oh my god."

"What happened to you?" Louise asked him.

"It's a long story."

"Louise, you can't go home. I don't trust you, I have a few meetings of great importance to go to, so we need to figure out something to do with you." Stark said, she frowned at him.

"I literally could go home." She pointed out, against what he had just said.

"You could stay with me?" Peter suggested kindly. He was such a nice person it made Louise rethink her life decisions.

"Good plan kid." Stark nodded. "I'll call your aunt. Louise you'll be posing as my niece."

"That's weird but okay." Louise sighed. Peter laughed.

"I'm going to do some digging, we may have a huge fight on out hands." Stark told them dramatically. "Be careful kids."

"Okay Mr Stark." Peter nodded, seeing as Louise was frowning in confusion.

"Good, you can go tomorrow, there's pizza in the kitchen." He told the teens, who grinned at each other.

"Thanks Mr Stark!" They choroused.
