TWO

There's always something good coming,
Remember that.

Bleary-eyed and surprisingly, crying, Louise woke up with a jolt, wondering whether or not the events of the night before had been a dream. She hoped they had been, she had after all, tried to kill Spiderman. She rubbed her eyes and ran a hand through her hair in thought. It got caught in a mass of knots. Lovely.

She wasn't sure why she was so upset, she was safe, wasn't she? Then why did she feel so full of regret.

Grabbing a change of clothes, she pulled herself up and wandered into the bathroom.

As usual, work was boring. She was sat on the counter, throwing a ball at the wall. She glanced to the door as it opened and slid to the floor in fright. Why the hell was Tony Stark in her father's coffee shop, again.

" You know, just because you're hiding behind the counter, doesn't mean I can't see you." She heard Stark's obnoxious voice and instantly sighed and hit her head with the palm of her hand.

She stood up and looked at him with intense dislike. "I tried though."

"You know you hurt my associate pretty bad yesterday." He told her. Her eyes widened with shock.

"Oh my god is he okay?" She asked, he stared at her in confusion. She coughed. "I mean, I don't care."

"You hurt his ego, more than you hurt him." Stark answered.

"That's good." She said, before frowning. "I'm not supposed to think that..."

"Okay kid, listen up." Stark said, she raised an eyebrow at him.

"Go on."

"You're good, you know what you're doing, and I bet you'd be even better with a super suit." Stark was bringing out all of the bribes, but this time he had actually peaked her interest.

"I'm listening."

"We need more people like you to help fight, and to let you in on something, we have a new threat coming, and honestly he needs to be told what's what." Stark said.

She laughed. "As inspiring as that was Mr Stark, what's in it for me?" She asked at once. He laughed.

"I can get you out of this hell hole?" He suggested. " You never have yo come back here."

"Carry on."

"All the newest tech, you can meet Thor? And the other Avengers." He added. Her face lit up.

"I can meet Thor?" She asked, hope shining in her eyes.

"Yeah, sure." He agreed.

"Alright, I'll join your little gang. But if I end up staying with you, I want an allowance." She told him, he looked at her with a frown, a hint of what seemed like concern on his face.

" What for?"

"I've never had one." She shrugged.

"What do you do in the spare time kid?" He asked her, she sighed.

"I'm here, or fighting crime." She answered.

"What about your friends?" He asked he seemed so concerned and she really wasn't sure why.

"I don't have any." She shrugged, he sighed.

"Alright kid, come on." He told her, she bit her lip and looked at the door leading to the back with a worried expression.

"What about my dad? What do I tell him?" She asked quietly, sounding uncharacteristically scared.

"I'll take care of it." He said, sounding somewhat angry at her fear. She nodded and climbed over the counter, landing beside him.

"Okay." She nodded, following him out of the shop and towards a shiny black car. He opened the back door for her.

"You remember Peter, right?" He asked her, she looked at the boy, who gave her a reassuring smile. She nodded slowly.

"Yeah." She agreed, climbing into the car beside him. "I'm sorry by the way." She told the boy.

"Don't worry about it, I'm sorry for scaring you." He told her, she smiled at him.

"It's alright." She nodded, before looking down at her hands. She wasn't quite sure what to do, and it occurred to her now, that she had no idea what she had signed herself up for. Stark was driving, which she found odd, he was rich, he could hire someone to do That, but he had decided to do it himself.

"What's your name?" Peter was doing his best to make conversation with Her, bless him. She turned to look at him.

"Louise." She answered, he smiled at her answer.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Peter." He told her she nodded, but couldn't help smile back. He was a sweet boy, and he was the first person of around her age to treat her like an actual person in a long time.

"Nice to meet you too." She said surprisingly politely. He nodded at her and they lapsed into silence again.

Stark had a new Avengers building, despite not having any Avengers, he still came prepared.

He parked the car and waited for the two teens to get out, before speaking to them.

"Welcome to Avengers HQ." He told them grandly. Louise snorted, causing Stark to glare at her.

"Sorry, but you said that as though we're supposed to be impressed." She informed him, he looked surprised at her comment.

"And you're not?" Peter asked in confusion.

"I prefer the old one." She shrugged, he laughed and Stark just sighed at the pair of them.

"Come on, we have a lot to do." He told them they exchanged a confused look and then followed him.

They followed Stark into his lab, where a half-finished suit lay on a work bench. The two teens regarded it with interest.

"Oy!" Stark clicked his fingers impatiently, to recapture their attention.

"Sorry Mr Stark." Peter said sheepishly. Louise just said nothing. She was still trying to figure out what was going on.

What Stark wanted to show them was two things, one an interesting looking web-shooter, the other a gun. "These are for you two." He passed each one their allocated weapon.

"Thanks." Louise nodded, holding the weapon in her hands. Peter said likewise, examining his new web-shooter excitedly.

"Press that button and it shoots a laser instead of bullets." Stark advised her. She stated at him.

"No way!" He smiled smugly and nodded.

"You can test it out, you two need to do some training." Stark told them, she stared at him, even Peter looked confused at his statement.

"What?" She finally asked, after looking confused for five minutes.

"Come on, you may have a power, but how well can you really fight?" He asked her. He had a point, she relied on her curse way too much.

"Fair point." She sighed defeatedly.

"You agree with him?" Peter asked in confusion. She nodded.

"I can't fight. Besides how else are you gonna test out that fancy new gadget?" She asked him, he visibly brightened and nodded.

"Lets go."
