Ch. 2

Logan snapped his fingers in front of Janus' face.

"Focus, Janus." Logan told him. "You keep zoning out."

"I don't like Spanish." Janus grumbled. Remus liked Spanish. He only took it because
he and his brother were fluent in the language. Janus didn't know they could do that,
apparently they could.

"It doesn't matter if you don't like it. You'll fail this test if you don't study." Logan
shook his head. "You need three language credits to graduate. Do you want to have to
retake this class in your senior year?"

"No," Janus grumbled, glancing at the clock.

5:43 P.M.

"We need to go." Janus said, getting up to put his shoes on. Logan looked at the clock
as well, sighing as he closed the textbook.

"You got lucky." Logan said.

"Yeah, yeah." Janus scoffed, putting his shoes on. He grabbed his house key, putting
it in his pocket. "You ready?"

Logan was already waiting at the door when he looked over to him, car keys in one
hand and the other searching his pockets for his phone. Logan opened the door,
gesturing with his head to his car.

Janus snorted.

---

Janus shifted idly as he ate his popcorn. Logan had gone to the bathroom, leaving
Janus alone in the theater. He sighed. The viewing would be starting soon.

He scoffed, looking around. Barely anyone was there. It wasn't exactly surprising, but
he expected at least a little more people.

There was an old couple a few seats away from him.

A woman and her son, she was scolding him over something. If he focused enough, he
could read her lips. He didn't care enough to.

He glanced at one of the farthest seats from him, almost doing a double take.

Remus?

He felt his breath catch in his throat the longer he looked. He was right there. Janus
hadn't seen him in so long.

He looked over at Remus' company, expecting it to be his brother, Roman, or
something. It was not.

A boy in a leather jacket was sat next to Remus, wearing sunglasses inside for some
reason. He had his hand rested on Remus' arm, sitting closer than necessary. Janus'
brow furrowed, and he finally recognized the boy. That was Remy Sova, one of the
most popular people in their grade.

Were they dating?

Janus looked away, staring numbly at the ground. It wasn't like Janus hadn't
expected Remus to move on, but it had only been a few months. Was Janus really
that forgettable? He had been under the impression that Remus was willing to wait for
him. Was he wrong?

He looked back at Remus, only to find that Remus was looking at him. He had a
stunned expression on his face, and he looked as if he wanted to call out to Janus.
Janus looked away before Remus even had the chance, sinking into his seat.

How could he have been so stupid? Expecting Remus to wait for him, how could he
have been so self-centered?

"Janus?" He looked up, finding Logan looking at him. He looked concerned, but it was
mostly masked with an indifferent expression. "Are you alright?" He asked blankly,
sitting down in his seat.

"Remus is over there." Janus whispered, using his coat to cover his face. "And he's
with Remy Sova." Logan furrowed his brow, glancing around.

His eyes seemed to find Remus, because Janus saw him take a sharp intake of breath. "He's seen me looking." Logan told him, but he didn't move to avert his eyes.

Janus scowled, harshly grabbing Logan's sleeve and forcing him into the seat next to
Janus. "You really don't know how to read a room, huh?"

"How do you read a room?" Logan asked incredulously. "Is he on a date--?"

"I don't know, okay?!" Janus harshly whispered, sinking a little further into his chair.
"This is mortifying."

"I shouldn't have brought you here, I'm sorry." Logan frowned. "I didn't think he
would be here."

"I don't think anyone could predict this outcome." Janus huffed. "Let's just sit
through this viewing and get out as quickly as possible."

---

Janus grabbed Logan's hand and rushed out of there the moment the credits made
their appearance.

"That was fascinating." Logan commented when they got into the car.

"Uh, yeah, sure, whatever." Janus mumbled, frantically buckling his seatbelt. "Let's
talk about this at home, yeah?"

Logan started the car. "I'm, again, truly sorry. I wanted to distract you and instead I
seem to have caused the opposite effect."

"I can't believe he was on a date. A date!" Janus buried his face in his hands. "He's
really moved on already, and here I am, stuck in the past like fucking idiot." He
growled.

Logan pursed his lips. "You're not an idiot, Janus." He said quietly, pulling out of the
parking spot. "You and Janus were together for a long time, it makes sense that you'd
be upset over him seeing someone else."

"I don't have the right to be upset over something like that." Janus whispered
venomously, not removing his face from his hands. "He shouldn't be forbidden from
seeing other men. It's not like I own him." Janus sighed. "Am I pathetic?"

"You're not."

"Liar." Janus hissed.

"I don't lie." Logan said. "I don't think you're pathetic, Janus." He asserted. "What
you're feeling isn't weird or strange. What you're feeling is human."

"The breakup was my fault." Janus sighed, putting his hands down, but not sitting up.
"I didn't appreciate him like I should've. It's not fair for me to try and appreciate him
now."

"Who's saying that you need to try and win him back?" Logan asked. "Why can't you
just take a deep breath, remember that you are a human being who is allowed to feel
emotions, and forget about him."

"It's not that easy." Janus growled.

"I know." Logan sighed. "I'm sure Remus has felt all the things you are right now."

"He sure got over it quickly." Janus laughed humorlessly.

"Which is okay, and it's also okay that you haven't gotten over it yet." Logan told
him. "Everyone processes things at a different pace."

"I'm not over him." Janus leaned back in his seat, looking out the window. "I want
him back. I want things to go back to how they were."

"Okay," Logan nodded.

"He won't want me back." Janus murmured.

Janus wouldn't want himself back either.
