Ch. 2

Princey was sitting on the couch in the common room, not doing anything in particular. Virgil walked over to him, his face slightly red. "Um, Roman?"

Roman turned to him. "What's up, Angst Queen?" Virgil ignored the bizarre nickname.

"Before you left for the Imagination." Virgil bit his lip. "Why did you...you know..." He shoved his hands in his pockets.

Confusion and panic flashed in Roman's eyes for a split second, before returning to their calm state yet again. "Well, do I need a reason for it?" He asked. "You know me, I do things unexpectedly." He put on a confident smile.

"So...you just did it...on a whim?" Virgil asked. "There was no reason?" His face conveyed hurt. Virgil thought that maybe, just maybe Roman liked him. Was he wrong?

"Uh," Roman mumbled. He wasn't expecting his response to elicit that kind of reaction.

"Hey kiddos!" Patton exclaimed as he walked in. "Oh, am I interrupting something?"

Virgil's face grew cold. He shoved his hands in his pockets and looked down. "No." He mumbled, beginning to walk to his room. "You missed nothing."

Roman sighed in relief. "Did I do something wrong?" Patton asked, his expression turning into a frown.

Roman laughed heartily. "Don't worry! You know Anxiety! He's having one of his fits!" He waved him off.

"I thought we stopped calling Virgil that." Patton mumbled. He shook his head. "Are you feeling alright, Roman?"

"Whatever do you mean, Father Figure?" Roman asked, putting his hands on his hips.

"You've been acting weird ever since your quest, which you have yet to tell me about." Patton crossed his arms. "Did something happen?"

"Nope." Roman smiled. Patton was taken aback. The usual Princey response would be 'Fear not, Padre!' Or 'You have no reason to be concerned, dear friend'. Now Patton knew something was wrong.

"Are you sure?" Patton asked cautiously.

"Of course! Why wouldn't I be?" Roman struck his signature pose. Patton narrowed his eyes.

He shrugged and put on a goofy smile. "Well okay then! Just making sure!" Patton walked away. Roman released a sigh of relief.

Patton turned the corner, and immediately his smile dropped. Something was wrong with Roman, and he had to get to the bottom of it.

Logan was used to Princey exhibiting strange behavior after returning from a quest (he usually had about five concussions), but the way he acted today was just plain obscure.

He had to keep a close eye on him. Knowing Roman, he'll probably refuse a checkup and patch up his wounds by himself. Since Roman was acting off, he's either severely injured or something is wrong with his head.

"Dinner!" Patton called from the kitchen, shaking Logan out of his thoughts. With a quick adjustment to his tie, he walked out of his room and began making his way to the kitchen.

Patton was laying out the chicken, whilst Virgil sat in one chair, twiddling his thumbs, and Roman sat in the other, looking bored out of his mind. Logan rose a brow, Roman was always excited about dinner (especially after a quest).

Roman turned to his right and saw Logan. He jumped. "Logic!" He exclaimed.

"Did I frighten you?" Logan asked, a tad confused.

"Not at all, I was just...moving myself up in the chair." Roman smirked cockily. Logan and Virgil both gave him sarcastic looks. "What?"

"Right," Logan said, sitting down in a chair. Patton came up with a knife to cut the chicken and set it down at the table.

Everyone looked at Roman, who was looking at his nails. He looked up and noticed the attention. "What?"

"Aren't you going to cut the chicken?" Virgil asked, crossing his arms.

"Do it yourself." Roman scoffed. "Why should I do it?"

"You always do it since Patton almost cuts himself everytime he's handed a knife and I don't trust myself with knives." Virgil shrugged.

"Why can't Logan do it?" Roman asked, irritated.

"Because the first time he offered to do it, you stood up and went 'Fear not, for the mighty prince is here to conquer this dish' and we just let you do it ever since." Patton said.

"Well right now I don't want to do it." Roman looked back to his nails. "Make Logan do it, or something."

The three stared at Roman for a bit, before Logan grabbed the knife. He had memorized the pattern the prince cut it in, it was elegant.

"Wow Logan! It looks just like how Roman cuts it!" Patton clapped excitedly.

"Thank you, Patton." Logan smiled. "Why didn't you want to do it, Roman?"

"I've been fighting dragons and witches all day." Roman crossed his arms. "I'm sick of knife wielding."

"But you always cut it, even after a quest." Virgil furrowed his brows.

"Well maybe this time I didn't want to." Roman spat, narrowing his eyes at Virgil.

"What is your deal?!" Virgil exclaimed.

"Oh boy." Patton mumbled.

"What is my deal?! Uh, bitch, what is your deal?!" Roman yelled back. Patton gasped. "Am I not allowed to not want to cut the damn chicken?!"

"This isn't about the fucking chicken!" Virgil slammed his hands on the table. "You've been acting shady ever since your stupid quest! What the hell happened?!"

"What is this, 20 questions?!" Roman stood up. "So what if I'm acting shady?! What does it matter to you anyway?!"

"That's enough, both of you." Patton said before Virgil could retaliate. "Can we just eat? Please?" Patton sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.

Roman glared at Virgil, but sat back down. Virgil huffed and crossed his arms, looking anywhere but at Roman. "You sounded like Remus." Virgil mumbled under his breath.

"I'm leaving." Roman stood up and began marching to his room.

"Roman!" Patton called after him. He stood up, before Logan grabbed his arm.

"Let him blow off steam, he'll calm down eventually." Logan sighed. He took note that as Roman left, he saw panic flash through his eyes.

Something was wrong, and Logan would get to the bottom of it.
