Ch. 4

Remus bounced out of Roman's room. Roman had reluctantly given him some tips on how to act more like him, and Remus realized what a terrible job he was doing. "Hey Roman?" Patton called from the couch.

"Yes, Padre?" Remus responded, bouncing down the stairs and plopping next to Patton.

"What movie do you think we should have for movie night?" Patton asked.

"We should watch every single Disney movie!" Remus laughed, clapping his hands together. Patton smiled brightly.

"Kiddo, as much as I want to do that, we have to pick only one." Patton shook his head fondly. Remus rubbed his chin.

"Um...how about...The Lion King?" Remus suggested. He personally liked the part where they ate the bugs, and he knew Roman liked the songs. It was a win-win!

Patton lit up even more. "Good idea!" Patton beamed. "Say, isn't that the movie you and Virgil bonded over?"

Remus perked up. Roman hadn't told him about this. "It is!" Remus smirked.

"...you still remember that...?" Remus jumped. He spun around and saw Virgil standing behind the couch.

---

"By the way, Mr. Gloom asked me about something you did before leaving. May I ask what he meant?" Remus asked his brother.

Roman turned bright red. "What did he ask?!"

"Why you did it." Remus rose a brow, intrigued by Roman's reaction.

"WHAT DID YOU ANSWER?!" Roman asked, standing up.

"I said that you did it on a whim. It sure seemed to upset him." Remus shrugged. Roman was even more red, but this time with rage.

"YOU BUFFOON!"

---

Remus smirked, remembering how flustered his brother became at the mention of the emo. "Did I scare you, Princey?" Virgil asked sarcastically.

"You truly must warn me before you pop up." Remus stood up and grabbed Virgil by the hand. "I must prepare myself before facing such beauty."

Remus figured he might as well do his lovesick brother one favor.

Virgil choked, his face bright red. "What the hell?" Virgil asked. Patton gasped, an excited expression overtaking his face.

"That was awful." Logan said. Everyone jumped, having not heard him enter.

"It was awful, but really cute!" Patton giggled.

"What's gotten into you?" Virgil asked Remus. Remus smirked.

"Whatever do you mean? Am I not allowed to appreciate beauty when I see it?" Remus placed a kiss on Virgil's hand.

It felt weird and he didn't like it. "The things I will do for my brother..." Remus thought to himself. This whole ordeal felt cringey and wrong, but Remus kept going for Roman's sake.

Virgil was flustered. "Is this a lucid dream...?" Virgil asked himself.

"Aw, you dream about me?" Remus tilted his head. Virgil covered his mouth, apparently not aware he had said that out loud.

"Sh-Shut up." Virgil stammered, burying his face in his hoodie. Remus released a fake laugh.

---

Roman sat by himself in his room. He wasn't quite sure why he let Remus continue to look for the source of his problem. Perhaps it was the small part of him that wanted the other sides to know he wasn't okay.

"Attention seeker..." He mumbled to himself.

He was currently trying to come up with some new ideas. God, was it always this hard?

He sighed, giving up. It wasn't like HE had to present them to Logan anytime soon. He was sure Remus could think of something ten times better on the fly.

Roman was about to walk back over to his bed, when an intense pain shot through his body. It quickly subsided, but left Roman confused.

He shook it off, he didn't feel like addressing that right now.

He layed down in his bed, sighing to himself. What could he do to pass the time?

He could dress up as Remus and go bother the dark sides. Nah, he would be found out incredibly fast.

He settled for watching movies on his phone. "The Lion King sounds good." He mumbled to himself.

---

Deceit was beginning to be worried. It wasn't unusual for Remus to not be around, but it had been quite awhile since he had last seen the duke.

"Remus?" Deciet asked, urgently knocking on the door. "A random bucket of sheep's urine appeared at my door, do you want it?" Deceit lied.

Nothing.

"Um, I accidentally bought extra deodorant, do you think you can take it off my hands?" He tried again.

Nothing.

"Remus, can you come out? Please?" He asked quietly. "I miss you."

Nothing.

Deceit sat down outside Remus' door.

---

"I-I don't understand what's wrong with me!" A small Remus screamed.

"Just calm down." Patton told him.

"I-I keep having these terrible thoughts! Thoughts about hurting you, or Logan, or even Ro!" Remus cried. "Is something wrong with me?!"

Patton didn't answer, just stared blankly at him. "Come on." He told Remus, grabbing him by the hand.

The pair began walking. "Wh-Where are we going?" Remus asked. "Dad?"

"Just--" Patton sighed. "--call me Patton." Remus frowned but nodded.

Remus soon found that they were in a more dark area of the mind palace. "Where--"

Patton stopped and knocked on a big black door. "Hello? Anyone home?" Patton called, putting a big smile on his face.

A man opened the door. Remus gasped in awe, his face was half snake! That was so cool! "Patton?" He asked.

"Deceit!" Patton smiled. He roughly shoved Remus towards him. "He's yours."

"Wh-What?!" Remus screamed. "Wait--!"

"Don't make too much of a fuss, Remus." Patton gave him a fake smile, and began walking away.

Remus tried to run towards him, but Deceit held him back. "N-No! Wait! What about Roman?!"

"Don't worry! He'll be fine." Patton called as he left.

"No he won't! I need to go back!" Remus struggled and fought, but alas it was useless.

Remus' eyes were blurry with tears. "Wait..." He cried quietly.

---

"GAH!" Remus screamed as he bolted upright. He was on the couch, the other sides were gone.

He assumed it was the next morning. "Fuck." Remus mumbled, shoving his face in his hands.

"Woah, language kiddo!" He heard behind him. Remus tensed. Of all sides, Patton was the one he wanted to see the least.

"What time is it?" Remus asked quietly.

"About 10." Patton gave him a smile. Remus nodded.

"I need to...go brainstorm." Remus mumbled. "I'll see you later." He stood up and began speed walking to Roman's room.

When he walked in, he saw Roman standing there. "Remus! I was beginning to get worried!"

Remus soon found himself breaking down at the sight of his brother. "R-R-Roman--"

"Woah, hey!" Roman rushed foward, wrapping Remus in a hug. "What happened?"

"N-No, I'm fine--"

"You're not." Roman sighed. "Did something happen?"

"Yeah, twenty-two years ago." Remus muttered. Roman frowned. "I don't wanna move."

"Okay, we'll stay here." Roman nodded.

"Thanks, Ro."

"No problem."

A/N:

Twenty-two years ago, Thomas was eight.
