Chapter Seven
"Hey!" Skye called as she signed herself in at Ward's base.
She plopped down on the couch in the living room and pulled up her laptop. Ward came out of his bathroom from taking a shower, his hair still damp. He sat down beside her. She's actually letting me sit next to her!!!! Ahhhh!!!!
"Hey," Ward said casually. "Whatcha doing?"
"Oh, you know, just trying to find your base," Skye replied. "It would help if you would tell me where it is!"
"Well I can't just-"
This isn't making you look good," Skye went on. "You say you're not loyal to Hydra but you can't even tell me where the base is."
"I just don't want you to get hurt," Ward told her and placed a hand on her knee.
Skye looked at his hand on her knee. She slowly looked up at him as their eyes locked. Ward began to slightly lean in closer. But then Skye turned away from him, ruining the moment.
"I just wish you could tell me where it is," she said and sighed. Her back was towards him as she laid her head on the couch.
"Well how about I tell you where the base is when you accept me," Ward offered.
Skye mumbled something to herself.
"What was that?" Ward asked and reached for her waist.
"Nothing," Skye replied.
"You said something!" Ward exclaimed playfully before grabbing her waist and tickling her.
Skye, not ready for it, began laughing hysterically. She started squirming around as she fell back on him, her head against his chest.
"Ward stop! Stop!" Skye squealed.
Ward stopped and smiled down at Skye. She realized she was on his lap and scooted off so she was sitting next to him.
"I'm trying to accept you," Skye told him. "I really am. It's just you betrayed our team, almost killed Fitzsimmons, and almost killed May."
"Hey May attacked me," Ward defended. "I was just defending myself. And Fitzsimmons, Garret told me to put a bullet through their heads so I was trying to save them when I threw them in the ocean. Just please," Ward said and grabbed her hands. "Please try and accept me."
"I'm trying," Skye said. Then her phone beeped. She looked down at it and stood up. "Oh. Coulson needs me back at the base. I got to go. No training today."
"Okay," Ward said and watched her go longingly. "Bye."
"Bye," Skye said as the doors opened in front of her.
"I love you," Ward called playfully.
Skye looked back and glared at him.
"I'm just kidding!" Ward said with a smile and put his hands up in defense. But he wasn't really kidding.
"Coulson! Coulson!" Skye called as she ran through the base.
"What?!" He asked.
"I found it!" Skye answered and shoved her computer screen in his face. "I found the Hydra base! I finally tracked Ward's credit card back to a receipt and it led me back to his old home, which was the Hydra base."
"Great!" Coulson told Skye. "Good job. Now let's gather up a team. Daisy, go tell Bobbi, May, and Hunter that we are leaving tomorrow. I don't want to waist anymore time."
"You're coming too sir?" Skye asked.
Coulson nodded. "I don't want to miss it. And Daisy?"
"Yes sir."
"I want you to come too."
Skye nodded. "Yes sir."
Skye watched Ward as he played with his fire. "Good, Ward. Good. Okay. That's it for today."
Ward ended his fire and walked over to Skye who was picking up her bag to leave. "Why you leaving so early?" He asked.
"I have somewhere to go," Skye said and looked away from him, avoiding his eyes.
He looked down at her, reading her. "You found the base, didn't you."
Skye sighed. "I did. And Coulson, Bobbi, Hunter, May, and I are all going to raid it."
Ward sighed and rubbed his forehead. "Skye I can't let you go."
"It's not your decision," Skye replied. "You don't own me."
"I just don't want you to get hurt," Ward said and put his hands on her shoulders. "You don't know my men. They are evil. They will kill the first chance they get, without any regrets. They will kill you instantly, no matter who you are."
"Well," Skye said and sighed as she folded her arms. "They can't be any worse than you."
Then she turned to leave and began walking away.
"I can't let you go Skye!" Ward called. "They will crush you and your team!"
"You created them!" Skye replied. "And now I gotta go clean up your mess! You're not stopping me!"
Ward groaned and followed her. "Skye please just listen to me!"
Skye stopped in her tracks and turned towards him. "No, Ward. You listen to me. There is no possible way you're going to convince me to not go on that mission. I'm going. And we are going to crush your men."
"They aren't my men anymore!" Ward yelled. "Skye no! Please wait!"
She walked through the doors and closed them. Ward ran towards her and ran into the doors.
He pounded his fists on the door. "SKYE!"
