EIGHT

(A/N: Oh my gosh, this chapter is kind of absolutely the worst. Total crap. I'm totally running out of ideas for this story, so enjoy my vomit.)

You wake up the next morning, long before the sun is to come up and long before anybody else is up. Luckily, you had kept your head under the blanket, preventing anybody from seeing your long hair pinned against your head.

You grab your notebook and sneak out of the tent. Climbing up your favorite tree and planting yourself on a sturdy branch, you start writing in your book. Stopping to think about how you feel, you wrote down the surprising amount of calm you feel for somebody who was kidnapped a few days ago.

After about an hour of writing, you watch the sun slowly rise, lighting up the sky with a pale red hue. You watch Theodore and Alex walk to General Washington's tent. You feel a little nervous that they'll rat you out, but after a second thought you decide they wouldn't. Of course not, they're your friends! You shake any doubt that they'll give away your identity and focus on the sunrise.

After several minutes, you hear your name being called. Quickly scrambling down the tree, you head towards whoever is calling your name and see Alex. "Hey Alex!" you call, running over to him. "What's up?"

"The general wants to see you," he mumbles, not looking in your eye. You nod and carefully follow him into the tent. Theodore is in there, and he looks down at his feet as soon as he spots you.

Washington sighed and walked over to you. "Well, 'Samuel', Theodore here has reported to me everything about our adventure. Including how you've been keeping something secret," he pointedly looks at you and asks, "What's your real name?"

You take a shaky breath and reply, "Y/N, s-sir. Y/N L/N." "Well, Y/N, I'm afraid to say you'll have to pack your things. The carriage for town leaves tomorrow, and she should return to your family."

"Sir!" you cry, a little too loudly. Taking a breath, you say, "Sir, if I may, may I ask why I am being sent home?" You know that women are not allowed to fight in the war, but maybe you can convince him otherwise.

"I'm sure you know that fighting as a soldier is no place for a woman. It's too dangerous," he sincerely replies. The only thing that keeps you from freaking out on him is knowing that he doesn't know any better. "Sir, I fought just as well as any of your male soldiers, I escaped a British camp, and I kept Theodore here alive. I'm just as capable as any of your men, and what I accomplished when you thought I was a man are still my accomplishments. Please, I want to fight with my country. I don't see why Y/N is any different from Samuel," you say, thinking of the Mulan movie as you give your mini speech.

He watches you for a moment, then nods. "Okay, you may stay and continue to fight. But I'm letting you know that it's never to late to go home." You meekly nod and salute him before backing out of the tent. Alex and Theodore follow, but neither of them even look at you, instead rushing away.

News sure spreads quickly. That evening, you are walking to the tent to retrieve your notebook. You can't help but notice all of the strange stares you receive, nobody willing to talk to you.

On your way to go get some food, you see out of the corner somebody approaching. You turn around to see your friend Burr next to you, smiling a forced but shy grin. "Hi Aaron," you say cheerfully, trying to read his intentions. "Hey..." he says, pausing because he doesn't know whether to call you Samuel or ask for your name.

"Y/N, but you can call me whatever," you reintroduce yourself. He nods, but continues to watch you in silence, searching for the right words.

"Aaron, just because I'm a girl doesn't mean we can't be friends anymore," you tell him. He smiles, a sincere smile, and looks relieved. "That's good. I just wasn't sure...but I'm glad. I'll see you around, Sa...Y/N."

You smile and make your way to the small pub nearby, the only place to get dinner. You shift uncomfortably under all of the states you receive, and hurry through your meal to get out as soon as possible.

You hear laughing, drunk sounding laughing, coming from your left. You turn around and groan when you see a very intoxicated Alex. He slings his arm around your shoulder which you immediately shrug off. "Well, would you look at that. Our little soldier girl," he slurs.

You back away from him with a glare on your face. "I'd appreciate if you'd leave me alone," you say through gritted teeth. He just lazily grabs your arm. "Ah c'mon, Y/N."

For some reason you just had it. Something switched in your head and without thinking you swing your fist at his face. He stumbles back a few steps and just blinks in shock. "Why, you little brat," he says, raising up his arm.

The two of you manage to throw a few punches and knock him to the ground. You go to continue to attack him when someone pulls you back. You look up to see Laf holding you back, and snarl at Alexander who is currently on the ground. "You rotten, good-for-nothing, sexist, drunken flirt!"

Lafayette releases you and you send the humiliated Alex one more glare before rushing off. You didn't travel back in time for this crap.
