Let The Games Begin
I couldn't believe what he just said. He wanted me to marry him?! I didn't know whether to kiss him or slap him. Should I laugh or cry? I was seventeen! What seventeen year old girl gets married?! You know, besides the pregnant ones? I searched Darnellel's eyes for something. Anything to tell me that he was just saying this.
Like I had told him, no one really loved me. No one really cared about me. It was that simple. And for him to say he loved and cared about me... I found it extremely hard to believe. I mean, love is one thing, but marriage?!
"Where's the ring?" I asked, noticing he didn't have one presented.
"Right here," he took a ring out of his pocket.
I exhaled and looked down. "I'm seventeen, Darnellel."
"And? We don't have to rush into it," he said.
"You don't get it," I looked at him. "If I get married now, everyone will think I'm some kind of whore. I want to wait. At least until I'm twenty or older."
With that, I walked away. Was he that stupid? Everyone knows that you aren't supposed to marry in your teens. As I walked to clear my head, I heard a rustle in the bushes. I kept walking only to be stopped by a scary looking girl.
"Hello. Remember me?" she giggled.
It wasn't Molly--I knew that. But her face looked familiar somehow. Oh wait... Gwen. I looked at her and she had this smirk on her face.
"Hi, Gwen," I cleared my throat.
"What did I tell you?" she said.
"I know, I know. You don't have to rub it in," I folded my arms.
"Now, you'll pay the price for not listening to me," she hissed.
I looked over her and with a flick of her finger, I was on the floor, writhing in pain. She said some spell in some language and then whispered in my ear, "Until you start listening to people, you'll be prone to siezures."
"Make it--ugh--stop!" I choked.
She snapped her fingers and it ended. I regained my breath and felt tired.
"You'll have these siezures any time you see a flash, or you get too stressed," she said and vanished.
I stood up and walked back to the house. I went to find Issac. I needed a session badly. I didn't know who else to talk to about this.
"Kate--" Issac said.
"Session, now," I said walking into his room.
"Okay," he said sitting in his chair. "What's wrong?"
"Gwen came back. She told me Nathan would cheat on me, I didn't believe her, then when he came back and I found out he was cheating, Gwen came back and made me prone to siezures because I didn't listen to her," I said in a rush.
"Slow down, Kate," Issac said.
I replayed the memory for him in my mind. When it ended, his jaw dropped and he cleared his throat.
"Isn't there something someone can do to fix me?" I asked.
"She's a witch, Kate," Issac stood. "Only a witch can undo things like this."
"Grr!" I yelled. "I want all of this to end!"
"Kate, I--" Issac stopped.
"What?" I asked.
"How dare he come here...." he growled to himself.
"Who?" I stood concerned.
"Wait here," Issac said and walked out of the room.
"Issac!" I walked out after him.
He acted like he didn't hear me and kept walking. I continued to call him, but when he stopped, I gasped. Because standing in front of us was Nathan. I blinked and made sure I was breathing.
"You have some nerve coming here--" Issac started.
"Look," Nathan cut him off. "I know I said I came back for Erica, but... Kate, I can't stop thinking about you. We had a stronger connection than me and Erica. We were perfect together."
"Keep in mind that you messed this up," I whispered. "Not me."
"I get that, but..." he stepped towards me and took my hands. "I want to fix it."
I shook my head. "No. It's too late."
"Kate, please. Isn't it three strikes, you're out?" he asked.
I pressed my lips into a hard line to hold back tears. Everything we used to be replayed in my head. Everything before this whole thing started. We were the couple that other couples came to for advice. But now...seeing Nathan beg for me, made him look vulnerable. I didn't like to see him that way.
"I'm with Darnellel now," I said finally.
"Then kiss me one more time," he pleaded.
"No," Issac ripped him away from me. "You hurt her enough. Leave."
"Who're you?" Nathan looked over him, not remembering his last visit apparently.
"Her brother. Now go before I kill you," he glared.
"Kate," Nathan looked at me.
I sighed. "Issac, let him go."
"He's only going to hurt you again," Issac said.
I looked at him and back at Nathan. What was I supposed to do? And as if things weren't bad enough, Darnellel walked in the room.
Someone kill me now!
"What are you doing here?" Darnellel looked at Nathan.
Nathan faced Darnellel and let off a cocky smile. "You must be Darnellel. Right?"
"Do you not remember your last visit here?" Darnellel asked.
"Yes. Just don't remember everyone's names," Nathan shrugged.
"This is so ridiculous! Nathan, go! Darnellel, what do you need?! Issac--"
I was thrown into another siezure. You have no idea how much siezures hurt. Sure you see them on TV or a family member might have a siezure, but once you personally go through it, it hurts like you wouldn't believe. I felt like freaking Bella after she got bitten by James. It hurt that much.
Soon, it stopped. I wasn't sure how long I was siezing, but I was sure that it'd been long enough to take majority of my energy. I felt different hands shake me. I just couldn't bring myself to open my eyes. I wanted to keep them closed. I wanted to rest.
Opening my eyes, would mean I would have to face all of the stress, the drama... Resting felt good. I didn't have to worry about anything. Didn't have to worry about anyone. Now, don't get the wrong idea--I wanted to live. I love living. I just needed a break from everything. The proposal, the curse, Nathan, Issac... All of it was too much.

I woke up to a bright light. I swallowed and turned my head to the side. I watched the patterns of my heartbeat go up and down, proving that I was alive. I turned away from it and looked around, letting my eyes adjust to the light. I'd never been in the hospital before. I was scared.
"Katlyn," Master's voice said.
I gasped and looked at him. He was sitting next to my bed. "Master?"
"How are you? Darnellel explained what happened," he said.
"Um..." I cleared my dry throat. "Honestly?"
He chuckled. "Yes, honestly."
"I'm scared," I admitted.
He took my hand and looked at it. "Katlyn, do you know why you've been a Regular for so long?"
"No," I shook my head.
"Because you're such a fast learner, such a great, young pupil... Letting you go so soon, would be too difficult," he said.
"I--I don't understand--"
"You don't need to," he looked in my eyes. "When all of this is over, I'll move you up to Mentor. In my eyes, you've already been training others. I don't know if you see it, but when you perform your magic, everyone else tries to mimmick you. You have a gift, Katlyn. And when you become an Important, I know that your parents will be proud."
"Thank you," I smiled.
"I'll let you rest," he stood.
"Wait!" I said.
He turned at the door and faced me. "Yes?"
"Thank you for putting me through this challenge," I said.
He laughed. "Let the games begin."
And with that, he left.
*****
When I got out of the hospital, I didn't talk to anyone. The conversation I had with Master replayed over and over. Hospitals are really scary. I hate them. Needles, surgeries... I guess that was what Master meant by "let the games begin."
