Chapter 2

I never seem to be able to make good first chapters. This is my opinion at least. But I hope you like it :)

Enjoy ;D

-------------

Despite my objections, after school Nicole and I left together to go over to my place. Because Nicole was afraid of my choice of clothes, she wanted to choose me an outfit. In my mind I already imagined Nicole being like a tornado in my closet. I shouldn't let her win all the time but it's pretty damn hard to do otherwise.

We were about to cross the road in front of our school, when Nicole suddenly stopped. "Hey, wait," she said and looked past me, biting her lip. I turned to look the same way. Of course it was Jake.

"You want him to come too?" I assumed.

"You know how much I want to. But... how do I talk to him? And if he doesn't want to come?"

It was funny, how Nicole always was encouraging me and how she herself was acting around boys. But when it was about Jake, she was a whole different girl.

"Simply go and ask. If you don't take risks, you won't know the consequence," I said, repeating what Nicole usually likes to tell me.

She sighed and turned to face me, at the same time trying to make sure her long blond hair fell perfectly onto her shoulders. "How do I look?"

"Just go. You look fine." It was so ironic. Like I was now Nicole and Nicole was me.

She nodded and took a deep breath, then headed towards where Jake was standing. He was leaning against a tree ,some yards away from us, and seemed to wait for someone. Possibly those guys who he always hangs around with. Not any of those others went to our school. And I didn't know anything else about them, except that they were friends of Jake.

I followed Nicole, but didn't go too close. Nicole slowly went next to him. I noticed swivet in her face, but she was good at hiding it when she started talking.

"Um, hi Jake," she began. When she had got his attention, she continued. First talking about less important things, like asking how's it going and who was he waiting for. She really wasn't like herself anymore. At least she didn't seem to bother him.

"Anyway, twelfth grade is having a party tomorrow. As many others were invited too, I was wondering if you too were maybe thinking about going?"

Jake slightly raised his eyebrow and smiled. "Aren't you too young, considering others who go?"

I understand completely why Nicole likes him so much. Jake has a very sweet smile and a good personality. Plus he looks great.

"Seventeen isn't that young. And there'll be others in my age. Besides, you're only one year older than me." Nicole tried to restrain her smile.

He nodded. "Well, if you say so," he said with a smile. "And I'm aware of that party. But I'll see if I come."

"Really? You're coming? I mean... you might be coming?"

He nodded. "Possibly."

A big and shiny black Ford pickup came from around the corner. I recognized it immediately. It belonged to Jake's gang, who came to pick him up. The vehicle stopped at the side of the road, in front of Jake and Nicole. Between all this smiling, Nicole managed to say something that sounded like bye. Then she watched him jump in the back of the pickup truck, and she didn't say anything until they were gone from our sight.

"You heard that? He said he is coming! I mean, maybe coming. But still. Now I have hope of seeing him there!"

I nodded. "And I'm glad for you," I said to calm her down. "But can we go now? I'm hungry too."

As we made it home, everything went more or less as I had imagined. Almost everything in my closet was now all over my room, while Nicole showed me what I should or shouldn't wear. Nicole, aside from Rudy, is my best friend, but sometimes I'd still rather be alone. Again and again I found myself looking at the clock, waiting for the time when I could be alone in my own room again. A while after, we had five sets of clothing which Nicole said are eligible. She also wanted to help me with deciding, but luckily I could convince her otherwise. When I was finally alone, I sighed deeply and lay down onto my bed.

My job was to put all my clothes back to the closet now. Nicole said she would have helped, but I feel more comfortable putting my things away myself.

I like hanging around with Nicole, but I guess I like it more when we aren't at my place. Or at some party.

Luckily my mum isn't really the worrying type. I could tell her exactly where I was going and I don't have to be afraid that she might say no.

I didn't make my clothing decision until the next day. I don't really think that Nicole's visit was very necessary. I didn't want to stand out too much anyway. There was a pair of my best jeans, long black boots and a black jacket. In my opinion, black is best for blending in.

Nicole was at my place at six. As Nicole doesn't have driving licence, her older sister was driving. She took us there and then drove back home herself.

The drive from my house to the party location took about twenty minutes. It was outside Blue Mist, and in the dark it almost reminded me the middle of nowhere. I didn't even know the owner of the house where this party was at. Actually I didn't know many of those who I saw there.

Getting drunk wasn't my thing. But the party itself was actually more fun than I had expected. Some people there were really funny. It was only disturbing when Nicole wanted to find me a companion. Those boys who we met here really weren't for me. Besides, most of them were soon so drunk, they weren't themselves anymore.

And unfortunately for Nicole, Jake didn't show up.

When it was pitch black outside, some people came up with an idea of going out for a walk. Or rather, with the reason unknown to me, they wanted to enter an old schoolhouse, apparently somewhere near. And as Nicole was one of those who wanted to go, I was dragged along too.

The dark street on the way there had only a few streetlights. There were twelve of us. Three of us were boys. I didn't actually agree that what we were doing was a very good idea. Firstly, I didn't even know if we were allowed to go there. Secondly, it was too dark and I'm not sure if anyone actually knew where we were going. But after a while we reached an old building. Its doors were unlocked. There had been no activity here in years. This house was clearly abandoned, and there was nothing here to steal anyway.

When we went inside, Nicole and two other girls didn't follow us. I looked at Nicole questioningly.

"We'll be right there," Nicole said. "Just one cigarette."

I frowned. "You smoke?"

I felt as if she rolled her eyes, but I couldn't be sure in the darkness. She was also a bit drunk. So I hope she won't get addicted.

"You can go. We'll come soon."

I sighed and went inside with others. As this place was abandoned, I was surprised that the lights still worked. The place itself looked very old. The classrooms were empty. I heard others talk and laugh, but I still didn't get the point of coming here.

We heard the front door bang. Just Nicole and those other girls I decide. But then we heard some other sound, like a click. I didn't pay much attention to it at first.

"Who are you?" one of the girls I came inside with asked, looking down the hallway, at the direction of front door. I went to look too, to see who she was talking to.

Those were not Nicole and her two friends. There were more of them. At first I thought that maybe someone else from the party decided to join. But I was confused when I realized that I didn't see those guys at the party. And after that I was astonished, when I recognized them. Eight boys, all dressed in black, like they always seem to be. Jake was with them. So he did decide to come. But what are they doing here?

None of them said anything as they came closer. I noticed some of them were grinning, and it started to look a bit suspicious.

First of them had a glimpse at those lights in the ceiling, then looked our way again. I'm not sure if I saw correctly, but I think his eyes were glowing for a moment when he had looked up. Like a cat in darkness. I got even more confused. But they still came closer. And when I saw that same glow also in others' eyes, my body became tense. Seeing our reaction, the first one of them laughed silently.
