Chapter 3
I'd appreciate your votes and comments :)
I know you would think otherwise when you read this chapter, so I better tell you right away that this story has no vampires.
--------------------
Standing there in confusion we didn't know what to do. They quickly moved to surround us in a circle. I took a step back, when one of them came to stand too close to me.
"What? What do you want? Who are you?" one of the girls asked. Her tone was confused, scared and sassy all together.
Neither of them said anything, only one of them stepped closer. He stood right in front of that girl who had just asked the questions.
"You know what I want?" he asked, cocking his head a bit. The girl frowned and waited for him to go on. The boy's glance slowly slid over us all, coming to rest on me, as I was the last in row. Then he looked back at the girl in front of her. His answer was short and simple. "You."
Before any of us could react, he grabbed her from shoulders and pulled her against him. We heard a piercing scream, when the boy sank his teeth into her neck. I gasped and almost fell to my back in shock, seeing his huge fangs - something I've never even seen in vampire movies - crashing into her neck. Crimson liquid trickled down her neck and dripped on the floor, while the girl was kicking and screaming but with no effect.
Our instincts clearly screamed run. Running backwards a few steps, my eyes stopped on Jake. I was astonished to see how calm he was. I couldn't believe he was here with them. That he was one of them.
Running down the hallway, trying to escape, we heard them follow us. I looked back to see them calmly walk after us. And that scared me a lot. They must know we have nowhere to go. We are trapped in this house.
I was scared to death. The beating of my heart seemed as loud as my breathing and tears were blurring my eyes. I stumbled a few times, but managed to keep my balance and continue running... until the hallway ended. A few of us ran to one of the classrooms where they started banging on windows, trying to open or break them. I saw the creatures walking over to the door of the classroom. Four of the boys went in; three continued coming our way, Jake amongst them. One of them had stayed behind. The first to attack. Who knows what he was doing to that girl now.
We rushed into the classroom closest to us. Quickly, we tried all the windows. None of them opened. Panicking, we looked around, but the classroom was empty. No chairs or even desks to break down the windows with. And then they appeared into doorway. I heard one of them say something to others whilst laughing, but I didn't hear their words. Now there was only one place left to go. Between this classroom and the one next to it was another door, which was shut at the moment, but hopefully not locked. We all ran towards it, but I was closer than others. I reached it and pushed it open. When I ran in, I heard screams from behind me. I turned my head to look back. One of the girls who was with me reached the doorway. But then one of those guys jumped out, pushing her out of my view. Another loud scream was heard.
The next thought I had was: I'm not going to survive. But I still told my stiff muscles to work. And then I noticed it. A window that was a bit opened. I rushed over to it and pressed my fingers through the narrow slit, using all my strength to lift it up enough for me to get out. My whole body was shaking when I tried to press myself through the now open window. And just when I got out, I saw one of them coming after me.
I looked around. Across the road there was a forest, but I don't think it would save me. Next to that old schoolhouse, about forty metres away there was some kind of bigger building. Without thinking any longer I ran towards its little green door. I prepared myself for the panic if it refused to open.
I happened to look behind me just when I heard the glass shatter. My follower had jumped through a closed window, landed on his feet and was now half-running towards me.
My cheeks and eyes were wet with tears and I had to blink repeatedly to keep my sight clear. Hearing his steps coming after me, I reached the door and felt a little relief when it opened. I closed it behind me with a bang, and then I saw that the door can be locked from inside. I of course locked it. Then, I tried to look around in the dark to see where I should run now. After a few steps I flinched when the lights turned on. Maybe they were automatic? But I wasn't sure what this huge room was exactly. There were big shelves with boxes, many pipes. Maybe some sort of storehouse?
The door handle was pressed down. That was followed by some loud thuds against the door. I flinched every time it happened. A dent appeared in the metal door. But then it remained silent. I backed away, my breathing was uneven. I looked around, but didn't see any place where I could hide myself. Only long aisles between high shelves and pipes.
I heard another glass shatter and turned to look at the direction of noise. I saw a broken window above the door. But I didn't see any movement.
My heart was beating louder than ever, when I tried to be as quiet as possible and tiptoed along the aisle. I was on alert, looking around and listening to any noise, looking for possible threats. I noticed something long and metal on one of the shelves. I carefully took it in my hands. It did make a little noise, but I got it. It was about a metre long metal lever. I held it tightly with my both hands, ready to protect myself.
I hardly heard the steps, but I realized that they were coming my way. I turned on my heel to see him step out from behind the corner. He looked at me hungrily, large pupils glowing green in the light. It was Jake.
He came closer, not paying attention to the lever I held. I backed down carefully, watching his every move.
"Please, Jake. Don't do it," I sobbed, squeezing the cold and heavy lever in my hands. But Jake didn't answer. He kept on walking closer. And his steps were faster than mine. Only when he was just a bit further away so I couldn't hit him, he slowed down.
"Why are you doing this?" I asked in a whisper, new tears coming from my eyes.
"This is the nature," he said softly, making the situation look a bit less scary. But I was still on alert. I adjusted the lever in my hands, ready to use it.
Then he attacked. I jumped back, trying to hit him as strongly as possible. But he ducked, attacking me now from the side. I managed to be fast enough to try again, but he bent down. But I did hit something. With a scream I accidentally let go of the lever and jumped back, when a loud noise startled me. I had hit a pipe, from where hot vapour now was blowing out with a shrilling noise. It took me about two seconds to realize, that this hot stuff was blowing directly at Jake, making him back off and cover his eyes, while I heard him inhumanly growl.
There I saw an opportunity and ran off. I headed towards the door again, from where I came here. It was still only a bit further, when I heard loud noises. I looked behind me and felt cold shivers running down my spine, seeing how Jake came from around the corner, and instead of slowing down on the corner, he jumped and used both his legs and arms to climb on the shelves. And this didn't make him any slower. Then he pushed himself up, being on top of the shelves in a moment. There he kept running after me, and he was much faster than I was.
I reached the door and opened it hastily. At the same time Jake jumped down, landing smoothly after many metres of dropping. He was too close. But I dashed out from the door, shutting it behind me. I'm not very sure what then happened on the other side, but firstly I heard slight clicking sound. And when I had raced off, I heard strong banging against that door and an even bigger dent appeared as the top hinge of the door broke.
Not knowing where to go next, I started running along the way we had used to get here in this old schoolhouse at the first place. But suddenly I saw lights. A car was approaching. I used all my energy to make it to the street before it drives past. I already thought this was exactly what was going to happen, when driver suddenly stepped on the brakes. This must have been good luck. I made sure this small vehicle wasn't the pickup truck.
I was about ten more metres away from it, when the passenger door was opened. "Come! Quick!" some woman yelled.
Startled, I stopped running. Why didn't she ask what was going on? How does she know I need to escape?
"You must hurry!" this woman with long blond hair yelled again, looking at the way where I came. This is when I heard a loud bang and I turned just in time to see the green door fly long way further. I made my decision and jumped in the car. I couldn't even pull the door shut before she already hit the gas and drove off.
