Chapter 9
SS
After calming Harry down and asking him if he could leave for a few minutes, Severus had got up to speak with Poppy alone as she went to set up Harry's food. Once the two were out of range of some certain ears, Severus explained to her the situation of Harry's new guardianship. Boy was Severus glad Dumbledore wasn't there to see her reaction.
She nearly dropped the tray of food she had fixed for Harry, but due to her ability of control she set it down carefully on a table next to them. She then ran over to him and hugged him tightly, saying she was proud of him and exclaiming her hatred towards the boys relatives. He stood stiffly and surprised as the witch squeezed the magic out of him. If Poppy hadn't acted so much like an overly excited teenager, he would've gave her a bigger smile. Instead he only gave a slight smirk and lightly pushed her off.
"I just have no idea how to tell him. He is in a very emotional state right now and one wrong thing said might send him into a panic attack." Severus says frowning.
Poppy continued smiling as she picked up the tray again. "Just be honest with him. Tell him you care about his well being, but also be aware that he has a choice in the matter as well. Take it slow but to slow that makes him feel dumb. Let him know you'll always be there for him from now on."
Severus scowled and made a slight face of disbelief. "Being a guardian is going to take some getting used to." Poppy laughed at him as the two made their way towards the bed Harry was laying in.

Harry was occupying himself with his thumbs, twiddling them around as if they were some toy for a 3 year old child. He hadn't seen to notice the potions master taking back his place next to him in a chair.
"Harry?" Poppy asked as she set the tray of food on the bed. Harry jumped slightly at the sound of his name. He looked up at Poppy, then Snape, and then back at Poppy until he noticed the tray of food. His eyes widened at the amount of food for just himself, although there wasn't much. The tray was full of light foods such as apple sauce, cottage cheese, grapes, blueberries, Strawberry's, toast and a glass of pumpkin juice. It wasn't until his stomach made a loud grumble that he realized he's hungry.
"Go ahead and eat Harry. I know your hungry. How long has it been since you last ate?" Poppy asked. Harry looked down and thought. When was the last time he ate? Three... four days ago?
Poppy gave a soft smile, obviously noticing that he didn't remember. "Eat as much as you want or can. Don't hesitate to let Professor Snape know if you want more. I have some errands to run so I'll leave you to it." With that she walked off, leaving the room.
The second her footsteps trailed off, the deafening awkward silence set in. If one of the two wizards happened to drop a quill it would be heard very loudly. Snape shifted in his seat, obviously feeling the same awkwardness.

After Poppy left, all became quiet. Severus started to think of a way to bring up the guardian conversation.
'I can't just bring it up randomly as if I'm telling him the time. I need to tell him slowly but, I need to know if he wants me to be the one he stays with.'
That's when Severus noticed that the boy on the bed was just sitting there looking at the food and not eating it. Harry's eyes were blank and dull, as if he was lost in deep thought. For some reason, Severus's eyes trailed down to Harry's wrists. The bandages were starting to bleed through so he made a mental note to tell Poppy about it.
"Go ahead Harry, eat." Severus says, jumping Harry back to reality. He slowly focuses his attention back on the food. "O-okay."
Harry started to eat the food. At first he was very cautious but his first bite set him off. It was like he never had a strawberry before! He ate faster but show enough to not look weird. "How long has it been since you last ate, do you remember?"
Harry stopped eating for a second to respond. "I think three or four days s-sir." That was a slap to the face.
Yes the child had called him sir many times, and those came naturally, but this one felt forced. He didn't want Harry to be afraid of him, not anymore at least. Harry needed to know that within reasons, they were equals. "Harry, there's no need to call me sir. You may call me Severus or Professor, which ever feels better."
Harry thought for a moment. "Okay Severus.." Severus smiled slightly.
"Good. With that being said, I have something to discuss with you about."
