When the winter ends

They stay awake with me unwearied,
the ghostly whispers that have been my companion.
I do not remember since when.
The cold settles on the bare arms of the fig tree,
frosty skin blanketing them in frozen stillness.
the grass that had been dying for ages,
cry out as a strong desire graze hungrily upon their blades.
Like prickles do they hurt now in pretence of kissing your feet.
You stop for a while stooping over them,
gently brushing your jaded fingers across their depleted contours.
The winter still towers with might,
encasing our worlds in its icy frenzy.
Your proximity deepens with the seconds that pass,
and the pain in my memory thickens.
I lay quiet in all my stillness,
attempting my best gravitas --
though inside I am hollow,
the chill night air spearing its way
blatantly through my unnerving emptiness.
You walk hesitantly across the yard watching your back.
I remember you being more brave when you walked the isle covered in blossomed white,
snowy frills hanging out from your curves.
It wasn't winter then,
only determination had frozen your mascara coated eyelashes.
But its winter now, and you lack courage.
I can hear your heart pounding tensely,
gauging the distance between us,
more precisely figuring the gap between your scarcily clad feet and my dull shadow.
There is a mist settling around me now, I hate when this happens--
as now the water will freeze,
the breeze will stall scared to disturb the snow flaking down from heaven.
Now there is a chance that you may turn back without even a "Hi" and run towards your car
trying to save your coat from the wetness of the snow.
Stupidly I queue up possibilties of not seeing you again.
And the mist thickens, the water freezes, the flakes fall from the heaven.
Amazingly against my fears, you pace towards where my shadow rests.
You reach my place and stand for a moment.
Your heartbeat resonates into my hollow, I feel it, but cannot feel my long lost heart.
I smile staring at your eyes, but
your dark orbs reflect immense sadness and you fight your tears.
I want to hold you endlessly, but
hold onto my silence instead.
You kneel on your knees and place a lone white rose on my chest where
the stone reads my name in memoir.
I see your finger paled where you had wore your oath in gold.
You get to your feet and turn back,
leaving behind so much unspoken, so much loneliness, so much memories.
The snow covering your tracks after you.
I wish desperately that the winter ends now,
giving me the ecstasy to gaze at your footprints till they fade on their own.
