Aloha!
"Let's go!" Lola's mom rushed her and Reed into the old Ford truck, "You're going to miss your flight!!"
They drove off, Lola's mom almost causing at least four accidents on the way. Her excuse was that they were in her way and it's her road because she paid for it with her taxes. A logical explanation.
Not really.
At the gate, Lola gave Reed a hug and waved goodbye as she headed down the terminal to her plane. Reed was sad to see her go but he needed to focus on his upcoming concerts with the band. They were popular in the local scene but he wanted them to get their music out there. Into the big blue world. Her mom stayed nearby, keeping an eye on them. But left once Lola did. Reed had to run to catch up with the speedy elderly lady.
"Please wait up Ma'am!" He yelled at her
"No time! Are you coming or not, Petunia?" She yelled behind her
When he finally caught up to her, they were at the truck and all ready to go.
"Why do you run everywhere?"
"It get's me to where I want to go." She sped out of the parking lot, "Now, what the hell is this relationship that you and my daughter are in?"
"Well Ma'am, your daughter and I are dating. I'm in a band and-"
"You make good money or you a shit ass idiot?"
"Excuse me?"
"DO. YOU. MAKE. MONEY."
"Yes."
"Okay. Here's a gas station and a nickel, go call a cab." She drove away as soon as Reed go out of the car
"But what if a nickel isn't enough?"
...
Later on that week Reed received a call. From Lola.
She was still in Hawaii writing and taking photographs fro a new brochure for the travel company she worked for.
But Reed didn't know one thing about her stay on the Big Island, she met a man. And fell head over heels for him.
"Hey Lola! Haven't heard from you in at least a week! Your mom told me that you were staying a bit longer. Why didn't you tell me about that?" Reed chatted nostalgically into the phone until Lola interrupted him
"Reed. Please stop."
He stopped talking.
"Reed, I met a guy here. It's love. The real thing. I'm going to stay here for a few more days, then we're going to come back to the city." Lola sighed, "Reed, I'm- just.."
"So what we had wasn't real? Not the real thing?" Reed interrupted
"We had the real thing once..." She began, sounding spaced out
"Once? You can only have the real thing one time in your whole life Lola! One time. So what we had wasn't real. Was it?" Reed yelled, death gripping the phone
"Reed, it's over." Lola hung up
"Lola? Lola. What the hell Lola!!?!?!"" Reed yelled into the dead phone
Why me? He thought
Why me.
