"We should go do laser tag now." Yoongi suggested. "I thought it was 'too early' to do that." Jimin rose a brow. "I changed my mind." Yoongi shrugged.
"Well, it's located in the arcade." Jimin informed, Yoongi nodding as he followed.
"So, what are you gonna do for your birthday?" Yoongi tried his best to come up with conversation. "I don't know, I just moved so I don't exactly have friends yet to throw a party. That is even if I have a party." Jimin said, frowning a little.
What does he mean by that? Yoongi wondered. They arrived at the arcade, Jimin holding the door with a little smile. "Thanks." Yoongi murmured as he entered, the weird smell combination of pizza and arcade tickets hitting his nose upon stepping in.
They two waited in a small line at the front desk, receiving a wristband and a game credit card that renewed 300 credits every three hours if they wanted to spend time at the arcade. The wristband also granted them access to laser tag, the indoor go-karts, the bumper cars and glow golf.
They headed straight over to the laser tag. "Let's be on opposite teams." Yoongi suggested. "What? Why?" Jimin pouted, his adorable puppy eyes making Yoongi want to take the statement back.
"Cause, it'll be more fun." Yoongi said. "Nooo~ We have to be on the same team so we can help each other." He attempted persuade Yoongi.
The taller sighed, crossing his arms before uttering an answer. "Fine." Yoongi gave in.
They entered the waiting room where staff gave them their vests, Yoongi opting for them to join the red team. They were let into the dark arena which consisted of two floors and plenty of hideout spots.
They were given a countdown before the round started, Yoongi disappearing from Jimin's side. "Yoongi!" Jimin called, rushing around the find him.
He came across a few people from the opposing team, running the opposite way despite the fact that he wasn't even supposed to be running in the first place.
He ran up the stairs to the second floor, spotting Yoongi at a hideout spot. He knelt down beside him, Yoongi noticing his breathing had become erratic. "Were you running or something?" Yoongi whispered.
"Y-Yeah." Jimin stammered. Yoongi glanced down at the steps and noticed a swarm of the blue team making their way up. Promptly, he grasped Jimin's hand and began running, the boy struggling to catch up behind him.
"Y-Yoongi, stop r-running-" Jimin struggled to get the words out, his throat feeling as if it were closing in on itself.
As the round started coming to and end, Jimin was close to losing consciousness, Yoongi unaware because he was too into the game.
A 'sudden death' time period was announced, being that if you were shot, you were out for the game and the winner got to receive a prize. Of course Yoongi wanted to win, dragging Jimin along with him to help.
It started boiling down to just the two and one other person from the blue team. Jimin yanked his hand away from Yoongi's, vision blurring as he finally collapsed.
Yoongi stopped running, turning around to spot Jimin on the floor, unconscious. "Jimin?" He let out a nervous laugh, assuming the boy was playing around.
He quickly sauntered over, kneeling down and shaking him, but he was unresponsive. "Oh my gosh..." Yoongi breathed out. The last player of the blue team found Yoongi beside Jimin, Yoongi trying his best to explain in English that Jimin needed medical assistance.
The guy disappeared, the lights in the room turning on after a couple of minutes. "Jimin!?" Yoongi called, but he wouldn't answer. He checked for Jimin's pulse but it was very, very weak.
A few men rushed over to Yoongi and Jimin, one knelt down beside Jimin to see if he was okay, another asking Yoongi questions, the teen answering to the best of his abilities.
Yoongi was handed Jimin's phone, which surprisingly didn't have a passcode, so he really had no choice but to have the medical staff contact his parents.
Yoongi was escorted out by security, a crowd of people waiting outside because Americans were so nosey when it came to situations like this.
Of course Yoongi started to panic because he had no idea why Jimin had collapsed suddenly. They boy wasn't showing any signs of dehydration while they were out all day so he didn't consider that a factor.
Yoongi called his parents and explained the situation, and apparently they'd already heard because word spread like wildfire that a kid on the ship was unconscious and unresponsive.
Yoongi watched as two adults rushed passed, recognizing them as Jimin's parents.
Yoongi was instructed to go back to his room for a little while to 'regain his senses' because the whole situation was a bit traumatizing for him.
He did what he was told, his mother hugging him as soon as he entered their suite. "Oh, sweetie. Are you alright? What even happened?" She asked in a concerned tone.
"I d-don't know, he seemed fine all day and he started breathing really weird while we were playing laser tag and then he just...collapsed." Yoongi rushed, hands shaking as he continued to panic.
"Here, sit down. Take some deep breaths." Mrs. Min spoke softly, Yoongi sitting down on the couch to calm his nerves. He switched on the tv, connecting his phone to it to watch something until he received some sort of word on how Jimin was doing.
He couldn't even focus on the show, the boy clouding his mind. He just needed confirmation that he was going to be okay.
...
Hours passed before there was a knock at the door. Yoongi's mother strolled over and opened, Yoongi too dazed to even see who it was.
"Alright, I'll let him know. Thank you so much." Yoongi heard the last part, turning to face his mother who was approaching him.
"Who was that?" Yoongi wondered. "Jimin'a mother. She says that Jimin wanted to see you, but he can't leave his bed at the moment. They're four doors down from us so just knock and she'll let you in." Mrs. Min informed.
Yoongi quickly stood up and slid on a pair of slides and his hoodie, exiting the suite and ambling down the quiet hallway to Jimin's suite.
Yoongi hesitantly knocked, nervously fiddling with the zipper of his hoodie. Jimin's mother answered, offering a small smile.
"Come in, Yoongi." She said and Yoongi stepped inside. His father was standing nearby, greeting him with a bow. "It's nice to meet you, I'm Mrs. Park, and that's Jimin's father, Mr. Park." She spoke gently, Yoongi now knowing where Jimin got his delicate voice from.
"Nice to meet you too." Yoongi answered almost as a whisper. "I-Is Jimin okay?" He asked. "For the time being, yes. He wanted to see you as soon as he woke up. He's in the room right there." She pointed to the door.
"Thank you." Yoongi said before walking over to the door, carefully turning the knob and opening it. He stepped inside and closed the door behind him.
Jimin was curled in a small ball sitting against the headboard, hugging his legs against his body. He had a nasal cannula, Yoongi confused on why he needed such a thing at his age but he assumed Jimin would explain it.
Jimin peered over again him, waving him over with his little hand. Yoongi sat on the bed beside him, glancing over and meeting eyes with the smaller's, who were teary and appeared exhausted.
"I'm sorry, Yoongi." Jimin started. "What are you sorry for? You didn't do anything." Yoongi frowned a little. "I should've told you sooner. I didn't think this would happen." Jimin uttered.
"Tell me what? What's going on?" Yoongi asked, voice laced with concern. "Yoongi, I'm sick." Jimin answered. "Well no shit, you just passed out."Yoongi could see the tears ready to fall from his eyes.
"Like, I'm really sick." He reiterated, a tear rolling down his cheek. "Can you...explain a little further?" Yoongi asked, heart aching seeing him cry.
"It's a terminal illness. It mostly affects my respiratory system, but it's been starting to affect other parts of me too, mainly my cardiovascular system." Jimin began. "Can anything be done to fix it? You're getting treatment, right?" Yoongi asked.
"It can't be treated, Yoongi." He shook his head. "What-" "I've had it since I was a baby, but I didn't start experiencing symptoms until some years ago, and it's been progressively getting worse over time." The boy gently grasped onto his small stuffed animal.
"I'm not going to be around for much longer, Yoongi." He concluded. Yoongi almost didn't know how to feel. It was overwhelming for sure, meeting a new friend only to be told they were likely going to die soon.
"There has to be something to fix it..." Yoongi shook head head vigorously. "No, there isn't. There's an operation that's been attempted multiple times to fix it, but every patient that tried it didn't make it through. I'm not gonna risk it." Jimin shook his head.
"Jimin, you never know-" "No, Yoongi. I know." He cut him off. Yoongi sat there in silence, unsure of what to say next.
"Is that why you're on this cruise? And why you said if you even have a birthday party this year?" Yoongi asked, Jimin nodding with a bitter laugh.
"My parents are letting me do whatever I want that's on my bucket list because we know I'm not gonna be around much longer so I should at least have fun before I die." Jimin mumbled.
"Jimin?" Yoongi started. "Hmm?" Jimin hummed. "How much longer do you have left?" Yoongi asked. "My doctor said at the rate I'm going, a year at the most." Jimin answered, shuddering at the thought.
"Please don't bring that up again, though. I don't want to think about how much longer I have." Jimin requested. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to make you upset." Yoongi apologized.
"It's okay." The boy nodded. Yoongi let out a deep sigh, raking his fingers through his dark hair. "I should've listened to you when you told me to stop running, oh my gosh..." Yoongi realized.
"You didn't know, it's okay." Jimin assured. "No it's not, I could've just killed you!" Yoongi started to panic. Jimin quickly swung his arms around Yoongi, hugging him gently as he rested his head on Yoongi's shoulder.
"Yoongi, calm down. I'm okay." Jimin spoke softly. Yoongi's heart began racing, hesitantly wrapping his arms around Jimin to hug back.
They were quiet for a while before Jimin let go, sitting back against the bed. "Even though we barely know each other, you're the bestest friend I've had so far." Jimin mumbled.
"All of my other friends pretty much ditched me once they found out about my illness." He explained. "That's fucked up." Yoongi frowned.
"Yeah, but they wouldn't matter in the end anyways." He giggled. "Jimin?" Yoongi asked. "Yeah?" Jimin turned to face him.
"I could say the same about you. None of my friends even acknowledge my presence when I'm around." Yoongi admitted.
"Aww, that's so sad. I'm sorry." Jimin pouted. "It's fine, I have you now." Yoongi smiled faintly. "Yoongi, you can't get attached to me." The smaller reminded.
"I know, but you're still the sweetest person I've met. I'm not gonna ignore that." Yoongi chuckled, avoiding to acknowledge the fact that his face was heating up tremendously.
"Let's hang out again tomorrow." Jimin suggested. "Yeah, I'd like that." Yoongi nodded.
"But, we can't really do anything that requires me doing anything beside walking slowly or sitting. And I have to wear this all day until I regain a little bit of strength to breathe on my own again." Jimin referred time the nasal cannula.
"That's alright, I'll figure something out." Yoongi ensured. "Cool." Jimin peered into his eyes, his little smile enough to make Yoongi's stomach erupt into butterflies again.
"Cool." Yoongi nodded, keeping eye contact with him. He was already attached the to cute blond, he couldn't help it.
