Chapter Six
No matter how much I thought about it, I think there has never been a more awkward situation than the one moment I walked into the office the next Monday morning.
The workers were seated behind their desks, their heads leaned into their hands that were barely giving any support. Some of them were hardly awake and drifting off into their dreams again, only snapping out of their fatigue when their head threatened to slide down their hands. For a moment of realization they shook their heads, their eyes irritatedly focusing on me as I passed by their desks and computers, marching down to my very own office.
Despite knowing my destination I did not dare to have my eyes completely focus on the room on the other side of the hall. The peculiar danger and embarrassment that entering this room was bearing today made me feel blessed for all the moments I could spend outside and without it. However it was Monday and the day held
endless hours of work for me to finish, inducing the potential of placidity in our office today.
"Hey!" Before I could even step even closer to the office, a small hand wrapped around my wrist from behind to gently pull my entire body back. I immediately recognized the owner of the voice, heaving a relief sigh from the few seconds in which I suspected the worst. Fortunately, it turned out to be only half of the worst.
I turned my body around, clinging my bag to myself. "Morning Lisa." I beamed, a nervous smile spread on my lips.
God, that girl's mischievous grin did not make the entire situation any better.
"Why weren't you replying my texts yesterday? I was worried!" She grabbed me by the shoulders and lowered her voice, as a few heads turned to listen to us. "That one 'I'm home' did not make it any better, okay?"
I rolled my eyes at the girl and peered her hands from my body. "Why would you be worried, I told you Yixing would bring me home and that I arrived safely, what's the big deal?"
"The big deal? For god's sake Jiye you were both—"
"Ah, what do we have here?"
Quiet suddenly, another female, high pitched voice joined our conversation, or rather interrupted Lisa and impeded her from finishing her statement. Her figure stood beside the two of us shortly after, as per usually she was wearing little amount of clothing and a ridiculously tremendous amount of makeup on her small face, young face.
"What are you girls discussing so early in the morning? Any gossip that we can spread in the office?"
My head nervously spun back to Lisa after scanning Yura's curious, feline eyes, my own widened in surprise and my mouth failing to let any words fall across from it. Luckily Lisa had my back at moments like these, not only because of our despise for the woman to our side being equally enormous.
"Oh, no!" Lisa chuckled artificially, making the intruder to our right furrow her eyebrows in confusion. "I was just telling Jiye that she's here earlier than Yixing and that has never happened before, am I right?"
Yura sighed, crossing her arms over her chest and simultaneously squishing her it to make it appear bigger for the passing workers near us. "That's boring guys. But our Yixing being late? What has come to his head?" She giggled and laid her hand on her cleavage. "He must have had a serious problem this morning."
Lisa almost chocked on the sip of the coffee in her cup, and I swore that I almost experimented the same with my own saliva. Yura was straight up giggling and presenting herself to the male population in this office, while nonchalantly making ambiguous comments about Yixing, who was kind of her boss. Did she even have any shame or guilt left?
"Oh Lisa, what's wrong?" She tilted her head to said girl that was struggling to keep her mind straight while drips of coffee hung at her chin, daring to drop down to her white, clean blouse.
"Nothing." With the back of her hand Lisa cleaned her coffee dripping chin before returning to my side, a sly smile slowly making its way back into her previously pressed lips. "But I'm sure whatever problem that is, Jiye will be able to help him as soon as he arrives. She's his assistant after all."
Jesus Christ, and I thought only Yura was the one who was blunt and insane this very moment— turns out even my best friend had some hella two-pathed mind. I could only cough upon her statement and with embarrassment avert my gaze from the two girls, but what was about to happen was even better, or worse. The judgement laid in the eyes of the beholder. Lisa would have claimed it as fatal fun, whereas I wanted to sink into the ground as my eyes involuntarily met with Yixing's, who was about to step inside in the the office.
As they both followed the path my eyed had taken, both of them simultaneously smiled two different kinds of grins. Lisa was partly laughing about the coincidence of this entire situation and the girl beside us, who was admiring the man whose assistant she wanted to be. Perhaps this fact was the only thing she in envied me. I knew how attractive she found Yixing by the way she checked her posture and fixed her hair as he stepped through the threshold of the door, and it was amusing and entertaining me in all the gloating ways.
"Speaking of the devil." I quietly spoke before gulping down the lump that has built in my throat, shifting back my eyes to my colleagues.
"Oh? Yixing surely was in a hurry this morning." Yura chuckled all to herself while her fingers stayed leaned against her patted mouth seductively.
I don't know why so many people decided to join our conversations this morning, but turns out that even Chanyeol barged into our small circle with confusion written all over his face."Why is Yixing shirt half buttoned? Is this a stripclub or something?"
I sighed deeply, turning my head to face him. "Looks like he overslept, you know how he is. In situations like this work is more important than properly dressing himself."
"You seem to know him very well—" Chanyeol was about to elaborate further, but a particular hormonal chick decided that it was okay to interrupt anyone if her opinion needed to be voiced and heard by everyone.
"I actually don't mind." She swiped her thumb across her lips, even catching the idiotic dork Chanyeol off guard for a second. "It looks good."
For the next few following moments our mouths stayed shut, not only due to Yura's eventual comment but moreover due to the fact that Yixing was slowly making his way over to us. Chanyeol slowly backed away to his own desk to leave the three of us alone at our spot in the center of the office hall, our eyes were aimlessly trailing around the office to find some apparent topic in order to not make everything seem so obvious.
"Jiye, are you joining us for lunch today?" Lisa was the only one who succeeded in finding anything proper to talk about for the few awkward moments in that Yixing stomped down the office hall.
I nodded my head unsurely. "Sure, if there is no extra work that piled up over the weekend."
And right when I thought that Yixing's arrival would pass by without any suspicious and extraordinary occurrences, his steps halted right next to our small group before he leaned at a random desk that was located near us. He bend forward, making his dress shirt change its position and more of his chest being revealed during the process, in which his eyes mostly stayed on me.
"Good morning colleagues." He gave everyone a brief smile, clutching the office bag in his right hand firmer as his eyes drifted to mine. "Jiye, office, now."
Afterwards he simply sped off into our shared office, leaving the three of us dumbfounded with his demand.
"That was direct." Yura chuckled slightly, leaning her below against the edge of the desk behind her. "I wish he'd give such commands to me though."
"I wish you'd finally stop sexualizing him so much." Lisa retorted, rolling her eyes in annoyance before speeding off similarly to Yixing, her feet bringing her to Junmyeon's office.
"What the hell did she just say?"
Shrugging my shoulder, I already started to make my way down the hall to follow Yixing into our office. "Sorry, I'm busy."
Ultimately, I did not know what choice would have been worse— staying with Yura and developing an argument about her ambiguous statements about Yixing, or facing said man himself after what has happened between us barely two days ago. Every time my eyes came to grasp his appearance my mind immediately drifted off to his suggestive and alluring behavior of Saturday night, my inside felt mushy and whirled, my mouth was locked. I could not get his words out of my head, even if I banged it vigorously against a concrete, and his endearing nickname for me haunted my mind in an endless echo.
Maybe it seemed weird to some to feel this turned on after being called after a pet, but holy shit I was dripping in sweat. Just thinking about the possibility of him reusing this name in the office soon made me want to turn on my heels and search the entire office for a bible or some holy water that I could cleanse myself with.
Thus, the moment I stepped into our shared office, my mind became blank and eerily empty as my eyes focused on his flexing back through the thin material of his shirt that he seemed to have noticed had been unbuttoned before. He was fixing the open buttons as I let the door fall close into its lock, his head turning when he detected the faint noise.
"Sorry for being late." He murmered, his eyes still concentrated on fixing the few opened buttons underneath his collar. "I overslept this morning and was struggling to find the files I was supposed to bring today."
Walking over to the desk I called my own, I swung up my heavy bag filled with folders to swiftly place it at the corner of the table where the computer screen was. I coughed awkwardly, obviously averting my eyes from his figure. "Don't worry about it, I arrived only shortly before you did. What's the plan for today?"
"Files to check and more files to check, I also have an important business talk with someone here at one for which I would like you to not be here. You might go to lunch in the meantime if you like, or just go home earlier." From the corner of my own eyes that were now focused on getting my folders out, I could see his sweeping over my body agonizingly slow. "But before I give you the files I need to discuss something of high relevance with you."
Beside him he closed the shelf door which was ajar as I turned my entire body around to face him. "Uh, sure." I almost stuttered, and regret washed over me in a blink of an eye upon my daily increasing stupidity regarding the male in front of me.
He was serene when taking steps closer to my desk where I was leaned against the edge, trying to play cool whereas I was actually burning with nervousness and excitement. I couldn't even answer myself why I had turned so extreme, toy hormonal these days, yet I dared to guess that the answer stood right in front of me only a second when the thought had crossed my mind.
For a moment his eyes swept over our surrounding, checking if there was anyone to soon enter the office. When he was assured that we'd be alone for the time to come, he spoke. "I wanted to ask you about your plans for Wednesday night." A small smile rose on his as he eyed my face with curiosity. "I'm sorry for the outcome of Saturday night, I shouldn't have left you like that."
I think I really should have gotten that bible, or the holy water, or some sacred anything to bang my head against in at least in my imaginations.
"Ah—eh, what?" Nervously fiddling with my fingers, I looked into his dark eyes. "I mean, you didn't necessarily have to stay at that moment. It was fine, don't worry about it Yixing."
"Oh Jiye." He took a step closer to me, tilting his head to observe me as he spoke to me as if I was a young child. "I'm cutting you some slack because you are this adorable, but I know that you secretly didn't want me to leave. You don't have to be ashamed of it, so just tell me if you have any plans of Wednesday night or not. I'll make it all up to you if you please."
Jesus Christ. "I'm free then." I almost chocked out my words as I detected the growing smirk on the corner of his luscious lips. "That is, if you don't give me any extra work for that day."
Yixing chuckled lowly as he turned around before his feet took him back behind his desk, where he started to clean all the files and papers he had previously smashed down on it and scattered all over. His bodily movements were slow and determined, as if he knew that every slightly hidden allure in them would drive me a little bit further into insanity.
It was horrific to admit, but even without his words he seemed to have me under some kind of magical control that I couldn't understand.
But in the end, did I even want to understand?
"The only extra work you will be having that night is me, Jiye."
______
It was past twelve. Before lunch break and leaving the office, I decided to have some coffee to reward my tired brain and eyes that were mostly focused in tiny written letters on some irrelevant reports Yixing had occupied me with. I stood in front of the coffee machine that was preparing the brown, brewed gold for me as its smell gradually filled the small kitchen. I tapped my finger against the cup I had placed underneath the small tube from which soon the coffee would flow. I was here barely four hours and yet I could not await the moment I'd finally be able to go home and enjoy my bed and the rare moments of sanity.
As the coffee was finally dripping into the white cup, I walked over to the small fridge to get out some milk to pour inside as well. When I was about to turn around with the big container of milk between my fingers, I was abruptly pressed against the door of the fridge that slammed close from the impact of my back. Simultaneously, the entry door of the kitchen was shut close as well, the plastic container made a free fall from my hand as my fingers loosened around it in surprised, and my eyes were only to lock with a familiar pair of dark ones.
"Jiye." His face was so close to mine that, immediately, I was reminded of past events that flooded my mind like a tsunami. He had one of his hands placed on my shoulder to press me further against the fridge while the other remained dangling beside his body.
As I gulped down my saliva, the beeping of the machine signaled that my coffee was done.
"My business partner just called and he will be coming sooner than expected, I need you to leave soon." His eyes seemed somehow resentful as they flew to and from different parts of my face in speed of light. "I know it isn't even one but I can't change this fact right now. You need to go."
Seriously, what the hell was this meeting about that it was so top secret? Yixing was a writer and not the president of state whose words were sometimes only supposed to be heard by few people.
"Alright.." My eyebrows furrowed in confusion as he remained in the close position, his knee pressing firmly against my thigh to enhance the sudden frustration that washed through my entire body.
"I swear, daddy will make all of this up to you kitten." His voice was so rich and raspy that I seriously wanted to hang myself upon its vibrations sent down to my body. His lips were parted sexily as he eyed me, which seemed to be the perfect distractions for his next move that I had never expected.
Both of his hands went around my thighs to cup the part between them and my butt, one vigorous drag of his hands spreading them apart slightly while my entire body fell forwards to collide with his. I gasped due to the sudden move and failed to inhale oxygen, thus ended up coughing madly as if I was suffocating.
"I'll take that coffee so it's not a waste." His voice returned back to normal as his hands suddenly lost their grip around me, and his body turned to face the coffee machine on the counter next to us. He picked up the container of milk I had dropped while I stood paralyzed beside him, completely robbed off speech.
"You're free. I'll see you tomorrow."
I think I should visit the local church right after lunch, that seemed like a good idea.
