Introduction

My eyes were still drowsy from the little sleep I had gotten last night, due to the anticipation and fright that encircled me at the same time. Lisa's cheerful and happy mood at this time of the morning was a mystery to me, but now that we would be working at the same company I'd have to endure it every single day that would follow today.

It was already nine o'clock in the morning and she was rushing through the complex as if she had already drowned three cups of coffee this morning; at least that's what I had done, but it didn't make me feel any less engrossed in fatigue.

"Come on, Mr. Kim is already waiting in his office." Her voice sounded through the open offices and drowned out the beeping of the computers and clicking of tens of keyboards.

I shook my head. "Mr. Kim? Why are you calling your boyfriend like this?"

Lisa was the reason I had gotten this job so easily. Her boyfriend, Junmyeon, was the owner of the small company that was filled with skilled journalists. I had only finished my studies and was inexperienced in this field, but was in the fortunate situations of knowing Lisa and Junmyeon very well.

"It's the workplace. Whatever your relationship to him is you should call him by his last name." Her steps halted in front of a secluded office, whose grey door read his name in white letters. "He won't be mad if you forget to, but it would raise our colleagues suspicion if they know the both of you have a friendship behind the doors of this company."

"They'd think it's unfair that I got the position so easily?"

"Exactly, now come on."

It was my day to embark. Despite my positions as an assistant and corrector of one of the main journalists being already safe, I would try everything I could to not let Junmyeon regret his decision to employ his inexperienced, raw friend without any second thoughts. Thus, as Lisa knocked the door, I straightened the dress I wore and tried to wash of any existing nervousness as his voice arrived on our side of the door.

"Come inside."

Lisa opened the door for the two of us quickly and motioned her hand so that I would enter his office first. I gave her an unsure expression as pallor washed through my face, before I darted my eyes to the desk that was located in the center of the room, Junmyeon sat behind it in a black office chair.

After she had closed the door behind us and rushed to my side with a small smile, we both bowed down slightly to greet him.

"Good morning, Junmyeon." Lisa beamed even more happily upon seeing her handsome boyfriend, who was dressed unusually elegant and classic, appropriately to his working environment.

Talk about addressing your boss appropriately, Lisa. A sign escaped my lips that were slightly parted but sculpted by a smile. "Good morning, Mr. Kim."

His face lit up in glimmer from the little sunlight in the room upon seeing the two of us. "Good morning Lisa, thank you for bringing Jiye here. And good morning to you as well, Ms. Lee. Why don't you girls have a seat? I still have to find your folder Jiye."

Lisa guided me towards the two seats in front of his desk as Junmyeon rummaged through the stack of folders that was placed at the edge of his desk. I sat down silently and cleared my throat as Lisa leaned back leisurely in her chair.

"You're surprisingly early, Jiye." He let out a small chuckle as his eyes focused of one of the folders in the middle of the stack, before he pulled it out swiftly. "Usually you tend to be later than late, am I right?"

I blushed slightly. "Well this isn't a usual meeting in our local bar but my workplace."

He straightened our the folder neatly and his fingers wrapped around its edge to flap open to scan through the first page. His eyes were focused on the paper as he spoke. "I like your attitude, keep going like this every day though. Ah, here it is!"

"Have you already decided on whose assistant Jiye will be as for now?" Lisa leaned closer to the table to read her boyfriend's face fuitely. He was wearing a mixed expression on his face as he closed the folder and pushed it towards me over the surface of the table. "Don't tell me you still haven't decided."

I felt a weird tension in the air as I enclosed the folder in my hands, upon hearing that Junmyeon had struggled to find the perfect person I could be assisting. Lisa had told me before that she had tried to help him with choosing someone who wouldn't treat me as a mere coffee girl, yet not make me submerge in work either. She concluded that there weren't a lot of people with the perfect balance of these two aspects, however those who did were already assisted by someone for a long time.

He smiled contently upon seeing my nervous expression, placing his hands on the table. "No no, you won't believe but I did find someone that will be perfect for Jiye."

Lisa jumped in her chair in surprise and gripped the armrests in excitement. "You did? Please don't tell me it's Yura, she was desperately looking for a victim to do all her work instead of herself."

He shook his head as he laughed, meanwhile I opened the small folder that was now placed on my lap. "It's not Yura, Lisa, I took what you said before into consideration okay?"

He made a small break in their conversation as he saw my eyes curiosity traveling over the first page of the folder. "Who is it then?" Lisa asked.

My eyes finally found the only other name that was mentioned in the first page of my working contracts, on the bottom of the page right above where the person had neatly signed as my future superior.

Zhang-

"It's Yixing." Junmyeon leaned back in his chair with a proud grin and he clasped his hand on the table. "Zhang Yixing."

"Zhang Yixing?" Lisa shrill voice echoed through the entire office, and I swore I could perceive the heads of the workers in the open office room turn their heads towards Junmyeon's office. It was more than just too loud, disbelief was carried through her tone that was brought across with only vocalizing a mere name; a name which seemingly held more than just a person.

I lifted my head abruptly to look into Junmyeon's face who was still smiling in amusement. "Zhang Yixing?" I gulped nervously and my eyes kept shifting from him to Lisa, whose eyes were widened to a big extent.

"You're choosing our top writer, no, the best and most esteemed writer in this entire journalist district to be assisted by someone who barely had any experience?" She seemed so shocked that fear engrossed me almost instantly as I debilitated over the many possibilities of how such a prestige person could act towards a new employee like myself.

I sunk further back into the chair and pressed the folder closely against my chest without saying any word.

"Listen, Jiye." He leaned back over the desk and supported the weight of his torso with his forearm against the surface. "As Lisa said, Yixing is very talented and experienced in what he's doing thus working as his assistant maybe be not the easiest choice that I could have made for you. But see this as a challenge, okay?"

"You're out of your mind, Junmyeon. No offense Jiye, but Yixing had always had big expectations and not everyone could meet up to them." She placed her hand on top of my arm and gaped at her boyfriend who was contently sitting behind the desk.
"Have you even asked him?"

"Of course I did, he looked through Jiye's CV and application folder and was pleasantly content with my offer."

"You know, I'm alright." I shook of Lisa's arm and gave both of them a reassuring smile, even if I was indeed slightly creeped out due to the way they were describing him. "I'll see it as a challenge, starting today."

I don't know exactly what picture slowly developed of Zhang Yixing in my head. Considering he was one of their top journalist, he must have already worked here for a long period of time and hence be older than myself or even Junmyeon, his very own employer.

"Well then, Lisa why don't you show Jiye Yixing's office?" I widened my eyes upon hearing that it was a secluded office like his very own, which was unordinary since everyone was cramped in the open office hall in between desks and their beeping computers and minds.
"Oh yeah I didn't tell you this. Some of our best writers have their own small offices where their assistants usually spend time as long as they are needed."

Lisa brought me outside of Junmyeon's office after we had bid our goodbye politely. People gazes fell upon me and Lisa and she guided me through the maze of desks and computers to reach the other side of the wide hall where the separate office rooms were located. Unconsciously I heaved a relieved sigh as I noticed the walls of the offices facing the hall being made out of glass, enabling everyone to see inside as their colleagues were operating their keyboards at full stretch.

I walked on my tiptoes to peek through the windows that would soon separate me and the other employees, trying to detect the person I'd be working with soon. I didn't notice that, by the time my feet were placed flat against the floor again, we had already stood by the particular office for a few seconds with Lisa's eyes glued to the inside.

"Seems like Mr. Zhang is not here yet." Despite her strong pulls at the door handle, it didn't budge even once which made her sigh in exhaustion.
"Junmyeon has a key to his office, I'll go and ask him. You can get some coffee from our kitchen in the meantime." She pointed to a small room near the entry of our main corridor.

"Should I come back here then? After I get the coffee?"

By the time I had averted my eyes from the inside of the office to finally look at her, she had already turned around to pace down to Junmyeon's office. I pushed myself of the glass door that kept me from entering my new working place and made my way towards the kitchen room she had pointed out for me to get myself the fourth cup of coffee; maybe that one would finally enhance the awakening of my senses completely and not make me look like a sleep walking idiot.

It was a small room like one would imagine it; a few kitchen counter and cupboards that, I learned, were filled with instant coffee, ground beans that left a lingering scent in the stuffy air and other necessities like sugar or other sources of sweetness.
There was also a microwave that was polished clean, and a small stove that I became aware of as I put one of the cups under the coffee machine.
I tapped my fingers impatiently against the edge of the counter as I had leaned against it, while the smell of freshly brewed coffee filled the room and got carried outside to penetrate the noses of my collegues.

"Judge a company by its coffee machine." I laughed to myself as I embraced the warm cup in my two hands, making my way out of the kitchen again. I tried to be as careful as possible to not let any of the brewed, dark gold drip onto the floor. Hence, I mainly kept my eyes on its surface and only peeked around from the corners of my eyes in order to find Lisa, who was yet to return, leaving me alone in front of the closed office door.

I stood facing the inside, let my eyes trail over the interior to admire its design and the new electronics that were placed on the desks and shelves. I brought the cup closer to my lips while it remained placed in the palm of both of my hands, they curled around the edge of the glass only to let out a hiss through gritted teeth. The edge of the cup, where the coffee swam, was burning hot. I immediately distanced my face from the boiling fire and subconsciously took a step back; unfortunately it made me ram into someone's front with my back.

The impact the small collision caused an impulse to my body, resulting in the coffee shaking in the cup and dripping over its rim to run down my hands in searing streams.

"Oh?"

The person behind me was surprised as my hands trembled around the cup whose walls were covered in dark streaks of coffee. My body was paralyzed for a moment, due to the pain the heat of the coffee had caused and the unusually deep voice.

"Wait, I'll get you a tissue."

I slowly turned around on my heels, my feet remained glued to the same spot similarly to my hands around the burning hot cup. My eyes followed the drops of liquid that fell from the rim of the cup down to his black leather shoes, until they landed on his eyes that were concentrated on the pocket of his skinny, black jeans.
I gulped down the growing discomfort in my throat upon his breathtaking sight and the affliction in my hands that was slowly drowned out.

He fished out a single handkerchief out of his pants and wrapped it around my hands before taking the glass out of my them to put it down on a table behind himself. My fingers were stiff underneath the paper as I watched every elegant movement of his body, like his torso turned and faced me again, like a strand of his hair fell into his face and like eventually his dark eyes met my own ones.

"Were you trying to get into the office?" He gaped behind me and took a step closer to push down the handle of the door that remained close. He shook his head with a small smile and pushed his palm into the back pocket of his trousers while looking at me intensely.

"I'm sorry, I forgot that the new assistant was coming today." He rummaged through his pocket and soon the rustling of metal against metal filled my ears. "I hope you weren't waiting for too long?"

"Mr. Zhang?" My voice was barely audible as he neared his body to mine again in order to put the key into the keyhole and turn it to the right so the lock was released with a small click.

The awakening of my senses was utterly enhanced by this point. But as he tilted his face to the side too let his eyes travel along the curve of my face, I asked myself if it was due to the searing hot liquid that had burned my hands or triggered by the searing hot male whose body was separated from mine only mere inches.

"Welcome to the company, Jiye."

No. When he emphasized my name, that was when my senses were completely shook awake.
