NEGAN

"Go fish."

I groan and draw a card from the deck, slipping it into my hand with the rest of the cards. I want to say she's cheating, that I'm letting her win, but no amount of lying will make me winner. She is, without a doubt, the superior Go Fish player.

   "How often do you play this, Judie?" I ask as she places another pair down on the coffee table. She chews on a strand of blonde hair, thinking over my question before giving me an answer.

   "Daddy plays with me almost everyday." she tells me as I take my turn. Now I see why she's so good and I feel for Rick. He has more patience than I ever will.

"I may have to take you gambling with me sometime. I think you'd....", I look over at Maggie, who's giving me a warning look, and quickly clear my throat. "On second thought, maybe that's not a good idea."

Giving up on Go Fish, I look around the living room and sigh. Now's my chance to talk to her, and I'm foolishly losing a game to a little girl. If there were ever a time for her to see me as pathetic, I think this would fall into that category.

   Judith excuses herself, rushing off to the bathroom as I awkwardly turn to look at Maggie. As we hear the bathroom door close I go to speak, but she quickly holds up her hand.

   "I'm gonna cut to the chase. I don't like you and I sure as hell don't trust you," she says quickly, catching me off guard. "The only reason I'm sticking around right now is so I can make sure Judith is safe."

    I nod slowly, biting back the cocky remark I so desperately want to let out. I have a long way to go, but I knew that coming into this. I think she's worth it, all the struggle and frustration.

"I know I've never said it, but I am truly sorry for what went down in the past." I say, my voice full of sincerity as I hold her gaze. "I plan to make it up to you, though— you'll see."

   Licking her lips she tears her eyes away, looking down at her lap as she lets out a humorless snort. "I can't wait to see you try. Just don't be surprised if it ends with you knocked on your ass."

   Flashing a cheeky grin, I know I have her right where I need her. "We'll see about that."
