Chapter 13
Chapter 13
During lunch instead of sitting in our usual table I told Riley to go sit with Wes. "Hey, we should go sit with Wes."
"I don't know."
"C'mon." I walked towards Wes's table "Can we sit here?" I asked him.
"Sure." I sat across from him.
"Do you eat?" Riley asked.
"Yeah, but not most of the time. I eat different food."
"Organic?"
"I guess you could call it that."
"Everyone's attention, please." Rachel interrupted. Everyone turned around and got silent. "You all know that it's almost Halloween!" A bunch of people screamed 'woo!' or 'yeah!' really loud. "I have the invitations. Each cheerleader at each table will give you your invitation. Make sure you're not busy, it's next Friday night at 7 pm." The cheerleaders each gave us an invitation. "Everyone really gets invited?" I asked. "Yeah," Riley answered, "usually not a lot miss it but-"
"Are you guys going?" I asked them both.
"Heck yeah, like I'm going to miss it. And you're coming, too."
"I am?"
"Yeah, we're going to go costume shopping this weekend!" Wes didn't say anything.
"Are you going Wes?" I asked him.
"I don't think I am."
"You should go. Hey, we could all go together!" Riley suggested.
"Yeah, c'mon." I said.
"I don't know." he said.
In the weekend Riley and I went to the costume store to buy costumes. "What are you going to buy?" she asked.
"I don't know. I haven't worn a costume since I was 5 years old."
"Don't worry you'll find the right one." I looked at about a hundred costumes, but couldn't find ones that I liked. Riley grabbed a lot of costumes to try on. She could hardly carry anymore in her arms. She walked to the dressing rooms and tried them on. First she tried on a police officer costume.
I nodded my head.
"Vampire?"
"No."
"Witch?"
"No."
"Angel?"
"No."
"You have to pick one. What about retro girl?"
I couldn't help, but laugh. "You look kind of funny." I said.
"Mad hatter?"
"It actually looks good on you." I said.
"Then it's this one. Now it's your turn!" Riley grabbed me a couple of costumes and made me try them on. "Here try these on." She pushed me into the dressing room.
First I tried on a Hello Kitty dress. "I feel weird." I said pulling down the dress. "Oh, stop it. You look hot." Riley said. I went back inside and tried a gypsy costume. "It's okay. Next!" "Pirate?"
"Ehhh."
"What about this one?"
"That's it! Perfect!" she said. "You like it?"
I looked at the mirror. Robin Hood? "It looks nice." I said.
"Great. What about accessories?" Riley said grabbing a wig and glasses. "How do I look?" she said laughing.
"What about me?" I said putting on a blonde wig and a boa. We both started laughing. We went to the front desk to pay our costumes.
After a hard day of shopping we went to go buy smoothies at Planet Smoothie. We sat a table outside. "Did you like the costume you bought?" Riley asked me.
"Yeah, actually I did." I took a sip from my smoothie.
"Do you think Wes is actually going to the party with us?"
"Well, I hope so, but by the way I've seen everybody talk about him I doubt it." I said. Riley stared at someone behind me, "Jock alert." She said sipping her smoothie.
"Hey, Jaden and Riley." Lucas said. There were a couple of guys from the football team behind him.
"What do you want, Lucas?" Riley asked. "Just stopping by to get a smoothie." He looked at our bags from the costume store. "So I see you guys went to go get your costumes for Friday night. Are you going Jaden?" "Of course she is."
"Great. I can't wait to see what your costume is. See you guys on Friday Night." They walked into the store.
"I guess he's going." I said. "Better watch out for him." Riley said.
The night on Halloween, Riley and I drove in her dad's car to the party. "You should have came with your boyfriend, Wes." Riley said while we were walking in between the cars in the drive way.
"He's not my boyfriend. We've just been going out a couple of times."
"Same thing." When we were on the front porch, I could hear the pounding of the music. Riley pressed the doorbell. Lucas opened the door and the music was even louder. "Hey, you guys actually came. You look great Jaden." He said.
"Thanks."
"Come in you guys. Rachel's somewhere in here."
"He was really looking at you." Riley said in my ear.
Everywhere we walked it was crowded. I had to look down to make sure I didn't trip and fall. "Just Dance." By Lady Gaga played.
I went to grab a can of soda. "Come dance with me." A guy said. I tried to recognize him, but I couldn't. He pulled my arm and started dancing. He spun me around, took a step to the left, then to the right, backwards, forwards, and ended with a tango dip. I grabbed my hat, so it wouldn't fall down.
"Hey!" he said.
"Wes." I smiled. I realized that the people that were dancing were looking at us. Everyone around us clapped. I felt kind of embarrassed.
Wes and I walked to where the snacks were. "You actually came!" I said happily.
"Yeah, I decided to come. I see that you decided to come, too." He said looking at me from head to toe. "I like your costume. It's ... nice." He said.
"I like yours, too." He was wearing a batman costume. He grabbed a plate of pretzels and walked towards an empty couch.
"You want some?" he said. I grabbed a handful of pretzels.
"Do you like Halloween?" I asked him.
"Not really." I saw Riley talking to Jared on a couch across from us.
"Do you know where the bathroom is?" I asked Wes.
"It's upstairs the last door on the right."
"Thanks." I said. I walked up stairs until I found the last door on the right. There were only a couple of people in line. I sat on a chair close by, while the line moved.
"Hey, Jaden." Lucas said. I managed to smile. "What are you doing so lonely?"
"I'm not lonely and I came to go to the bathroom."
"You don't have to wait. There is another bathroom. I'll show you." I followed him into a room.
"I'll wait for you here."
"No, it's okay." I said walking into the bathroom. When I was done washing my hand, Lucas was waiting for me. He was on the bed.
"Hey." He said. I walked out of the room.
"Are you dating anyone?" he asked. He started to surround me with his arms.
"Umm...I'm dating Wes."
"Wes? That loser?"
"He's not a loser, he's nice. I bet that he's not a jerk like you." I tried pulling away, but I couldn't.
"Well then let me just show you what you're missing." He leaned towards me and tried to touch my lips. I pushed him away before he could. I wasn't looking where I was walking, so I bumped into somebody.
"Are you okay?"
"Uhh...yeah kind of."
"What happened?"
"Lucas tried to kiss me."
"Lucas...that-"
"Wes, don't get into a fight. You'll get hurt. Let's just go." We walked downstairs together and I tried looking for Riley. She was laughing at a joke Jared said. I didn't want to bother her. "Hey, do you want to go somewhere else?" Wes asked.
"Uh... anywhere but here." We walked out, leaving the loud music behind. "Where are we going?" I asked.
"To the park." When we got there I quickly sat on a swing. He sat on the one next to me. "You don't like parties do you?" I asked him. He didn't say anything. "Don't worry, I don't really like them either." He stared at me. "What? Do I have something on my face?" He nodded, "You just have a really pretty face." Silence. I looked up at the stars. "Have you ever dreamed of getting married?" I thought of this.
"For a lot of girls it is...I don't know. I'd be really happy if I did."
"Have you pictured who you'd be married with?"
"Someone with a sense of humor, who's caring and nice, and loves me for who I am." He didn't say anything.
He grabbed my hand, "I would do anything to be those things even if it means my life." He kissed my hand. I looked at him and smiled. He was leaning towards me-. A rustling noise was heard in the bushes. "I gotta go." He said walking away. "I'll see you later." He looked back.
I walked back to the party, this time looking for Riley to go home.
