Mephiles x reader: Gem
You are a (A/T)
What is always in front of you but can never be seen?
"You need to be careful. If you come across this creature they will destroy everything you have worked for. You supposed legacy will crumble and become nothing."
"As though I would allow anything of the sorts to happen."
**************************
"Who are you?"
"My name is Mephiles the Dark."
"That's an odd name. But you're the first mobian to speak to me for many years. Why?"
"I have come to ask for your help, and offer mine in return."
"But what use could, a jewel like me, have to you?"
Mephiles currently stood in a darkened room that consisted of nothing other than concrete walls a platform stood in the center, where a large flat based rounded gem sat, radiating a vibrant (F/C) glow. Rumor had reached the dark creature that a gem, similar to a chaos emerald, was kept in a heavily guarded vault. And, naturally, had wished to obtain the power of this gem himself. However, it was certainly shocking when the said gem had a fully aware conscious.
"Also how did you get in here? I thought I was locked away." the gem continued to ask, in a feminine sounding voice.
Never mind the many corpses strewn about the abandoned facility. All of which Mephiles had killed reach this powerful item.
"I have my ways."
"Okay. I'm just happy that someone has visited for the first time in hundreds of years, I think. I used to be so highly valued by many, in ancient times I would be sold for more than gold and transported to nobles, who would brag about my beauty and intelligence." the gem started to explain, carrying onto a tangent "But no matter whom I supposedly belonged to, they would always die within a year."
"From what I can tell you are a spirit in the form of a jewel, you grow by absorbing the life of mortals."
"What? That can't be! I'm a precious talking gem! I couldn't have killed them... could I?"
"You have been alive so long that you have forgotten your previous form and how you survive."
"So I killed them all? Mortals are weak aren't they? That's why they locked me up in a place such as this."
"Which is why I am here, to offer you liberation from this prison and to aid me."
"But if I come with you I'll kill you! I'll absorb your life force!" the gem panicked.
"I am not mortal, if you were to absorb my life force it would do no damage to me. At the moment you are nothing but a jewel, but with my abilities, I can make you able to function free autonomic will."
"Really?"
And Mephiles remained true to his word, carrying the gem from the facility to an open area. He gathered piles of twigs and leaves, laying them down in the silhouette of a mobian body, placing the gem in the center, resembling a heart. Then through the power of a stolen chaos emerald, he bellowed out a command and in a frantic flash of light a figure formed from the branches and leaves, the gem being at the very center.
When the light faded there stood an organic form, the appearance of a mobian (A/T), its eyes the same colour as the gem, which resided in the figures chest. Through her new eyes she looked up at the crystal like hedgehog who had given her such abilities.
"In order for you to function in the world currently you require a name. You shall be known as (Y/N) and you will obey my every command."
But the newly named (Y/N) was far too dazed to take note of his suddenly changed tone, a smile forming to her lips, a new experience in itself.
"I'm happy to help Mephiles."
For as long as she could remember (Y/N) had merely been an object handed from one owner to the next. There were the kings who bragged about her, the queens who held conversations with her. And then the princesses who spoke of her beauty, how she would one day sit on their crowns. But now, to have a form, a physical body and a name, this was an entirely new concept to (Y/N).
From that day she didn't hesitate to follow Mephiles in whatever he did, nor did she care when he talked to her in a dark cold mannered way. When he demanded she kept quiet, she did. When he snapped at her to stop speaking with moving her lips, she set about straight away to learn to talk with her lips so that they would avoid suspicion in public places. No matter what he asked of her she complied. After all, in her eyes, it was a very small fee to pay for the fact she can could now move of her own accord. Her view of Mephiles never changing, that he was kind and a treasured friend for giving her such opportunity.
Once she had gained her physical form and sworn to follow his every command Mephiles told her that they had to immdiately travel from this location.
"Those who kept you in that prison will undoubtedly try to recapture you, so we are to travel to the Green Hill Zone."
"I don't think I've ever been there before."
Traveling on foot throughout the night (Y/N) was able to observe this new view of the world in all its hours. But arriving at this new zone, Mephiles spoke for the first time in hours merely instructing her to stay in a set spot. Caring not for the reasons she happily complied. And she stayed there for many hours, in fact she was convinced night and day had passed several times, before Mephiles returned.
"You're back!" she beamed.
"We need to travel to another zone."
And that was the routine for the foreseeable future for (Y/N), she would travel from zone to zone with Mephiles each time being told to stay in one spot for several days whilst he, 'took care of matters'. But she didn't mind, coming to her own conclusion that he had his own things to take care of and him telling her to stay put so she could look at all the zones in detail, and so she wouldn't wander off and get lost.
They traveled from the Green Hill zone, to the Tropical zone, to the ice cap zone, to Station Square. All the while (Y/N) blissfully unaware and too overjoyed at her new life and 'friend', to take notice that he was using her cynically. But then came one fatal day as she spent her last few hours in Station Square.
She was sat on a metal bench underneath the half risen moon, when she heard an odd sound. Looking around she saw a brown female doe stood a small distance away, her face to her hands. (Y/N) knew she wasn't meant to move from her position, but felt compelled to approach the doe and ask what was wrong. Standing up she took several quiet steps towards her, before timidlt asking.
"Hello there, what's the matter?"
The doe, obviously surprised, turned to face (Y/N), who grew confused when she saw water leaking out her red and puffy eyes.
"Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to attract any attention. I-it's just that, I lost someone very important to me recently. I've been trying to get back to normal life but... its hard." the doe answered sheepishly wiping her eyes with the back of her hand.
"Well where did you loose them? I'm sure I can help you fin them again!"
"If only it were that simple. Unfortunately I've lost them forever, as they were murdered."
"That's horrible."
"It's not your fault, only the person who took them from me should be sorry. Only that bastard Mephiles should be sorry."
"Mephiles?"
"Yes, Mephiles the Dark. He attacked Station Square a week ago, and killed my family."
"I'm ever so sorry but surely you must be mistaken. Mephiles is a good man he would nev-
"Good man!? What planet are you living on!? Mephiles good!? Don't mock my grief like that! He's a murderer, killing whoever gets in his way! Killing people in Green Hill zone, Tropical Zone, Ice cap zone, all over Mobius in the past few months! There's not a scrap of compassion in that monsters body!" the doe screeched at her.
Unused to such loud and sudden behavior (Y/N) stumbled back from the doe who began to wail dashing away from the area. Leaving (Y/N) confused, and ever so slightly fearful. She couldn't have meant that could she? There's no possibility that Mephiles could be a killer, (Y/N) worriedly thought. But then she recalled the several occasions Mephiles had returned with his crystal claws dripping a red liquid, and she knew that came from mortals after seeing a child fall over and tear the flesh on their knee.
And from the way the child had cried she could tell it was painful. In utter panic (Y/N) left where she was meant to stay, her legs moving at a fast pace which was a new feeling to her. Running through the streets in blind panic and search she quickly became lost, a liquid coming from her eyes panicking her in her already tired and frightened state. But she needed to find him, had to have him confirm that none of what that doe had said was true. That he wasn't the killer she had described.
"Mephiles!? Mephiles where are you!?"
Coming to a halt she stopped panting resting her hands on her knees, her hands becoming wet from the liquid pouring from her eyes. Her legs were sore, her stomach stinging and breaths rigid and very much needed. Was she ill? Was her body going to return into branches and leaves? What was wrong with her?
"Why are you screaming like a child?"
Whipping her head round there she saw him stood there, that same liquid on his claws. She didn't hesitate to ask.
"Mephiles? Is- is it true, that you've killed mobians?"
He seemed to hesitate, as though he regretted something, a long ago mistake. Eventually answering in a monotone voice.
"Technically it was a conjoined effort. Your simple presence, with your physical form your abilities were increased, meaning all that was required of you was to be present in a populated area and you would weaken them all in a matter of hours. Making their extermination easier for me, allowing me to absorb their chaos energy. You said it yourself, mortals are weak."
"I know I said mortals were weak but I never said I wished to them any harm!"
"You've seemed more than content these past months."
Clutching her hand to her head she couldn't bare the thought of having caused that much pain she had saw the doe in to many others. How many were feeling that pain? How many others had water leaking from their eyes in despair?
"That's because I wasn't aware what your true intentions were! I know I swore loyalty to you but I refuse to obey another command!"
Turning sharply on her heel she turned to resume that same painful but efficient fast paced walk Mephiles calling after her to stop. But when she, for the first time, did not comply, in his anger he sent an attack directed her way. But his aim had merely been to prevent her from running, not to pierce her in the chest. In that instance of spiked pain her body disintegrated back into branches and leaves, her gem becoming once again exposed. (Y/N) felt her body leave her, her sight and touch gone forever, before her world turned dark. As she shattered into pieces on the pavement.
Long before any of this had happened Mephiles had been sort out by a light, blue, middle aged hedgehog, whom of which was a seer. Warning of his fall from power if he encountered a certain creature.
"You will come across an particular powerful gem, a kin to a Chaos Emerald, and you will be tempted to make it an ally. Giving it the form of a creature. I must advise you to never do this."
"As though I would listen to a feeble creature like you."
"You need to be careful. If you come across this creature they will destroy everything you have worked for. You supposed legacy will crumble and become nothing."
"As though I would allow anything of the sorts to happen."
(Y/N) had been that very creature, but Mephiles had assumed he could terminate her before she had the chance to thwart his future plans. Unsure of how such a naive creature could cause him any harm.
However now he understood why. Over the many months Mephiles had fallen prone to a mortals emotions, to the emotion of love. At first he was cynical of her, in the constant weariness that she would cause his destruction. And then as time went on for longer majorities of time, he fell prone to a mortals emotions. Seeing everyone one of her traits he forgot her flaws, overlooking the fact that she was his doom. Every instance proving herself more useful than before, making him feel compelled to keep her at his side
He had never thought he could feel this way about any being, but (Y/N) had seemed able to break this regulation of his. Her voice was what captivated him the most, but conversation was never his strong point, unsure of how to get her to speak at lengths t time. And then when she would ramble on about a random topic he would grow aggravated that he had nothing to contribute, and would return to his usual emotion of anger. Snapping at her to become silent.
He loathed the time he had to spend away from her but felt the constant nagging of his once goal to achieve global domination. In actual fact it was this very day he was considering merely returning to a secluded dwelling with (Y/N), giving up on that plight. Thinking this was the fate the seer had warned him of. Not this.
And now he held the shards of her heart, that future having come to pass.
Would you guys like me to write a book that has writing tips for just generally and x readers specifically? As I've been thinking about it for a while.
