Mephiles x reader: The Scepter

You are a (A/T)

Think before you act.

Saturday nights are usually when Mobians enjoy themselves after a long weeks work. Which often led to drunks. Down town was lit up by bar windows and flashing lights leaking from clubs as a drunk porcupine stumbled down the street.

Sluggishly he drank from his beer bottle but came to a halting stop when his foot lightly kicked something made of glass. Mumbling to himself he picked it up hoping it to be another beer bottle, but when he saw it wasn't what he wanted he dropped it to the floor kicking it down a near by back alley.

"Pfft! I don't want some flashy purple thingy..." he mumbled walking away.

The object itself was an odd looking scepter with a violet glow. It clattered to a halt in the alley way and not a second later a door opened and a (A/T) stepped into the rank smelling area heaving two heavy rubbish bags.

She struggled to throw the bags into the bin with the weight of them, sighing she then readjusted the cap on top of her hair which was tied up in a bun, and straightened her apron which had the logo of the fast food joint she worked for embroidered onto it.

"(Y/N) hurry up with that! Then we need you to clean the toilets!" her boss called form inside.

"Sure thing boss!" she called back in a tired voice.

She sighed again about to head back when she accidentally kicked something. It gave a loud clatter and looking down she saw a very irregular looking object.

"What's this?" she thought out loud bending down.

There seemed to be some sort of liquid inside, as if it were alive. She was considering whether or not to take this, what she assumed, scepter home.

Hmm, I'm not to sure I should take this....

"(Y/N)! Get your butt back in here now!" her boss snapped from inside.

That made up her mind as she hid the scepter in her apron pocket before going back inside.

~Later that night~

Fumbling with her keys (Y/N) tiredly limped back into her flat flicking on the a lamp. Sitting down on her sofa she wanted to go to bed it already being late, but not before looking at the scepter she had found.

Pulling it out of her bag it gave the room a slight purple glow, it was rather big with a gem at the top that had a freaky looking face on it, along with the handles on the side looking a mix between stone and bone.

But what she found the most disturbing thing about the scepter was what was inside the glass. It looked like a liquid but very clearly moved about, it was weird

"This thing sure is creepy, but maybe I can sell it somewhere? I am short on cash." she thought out loud.

Putting the scepter down on her coffee table she headed out the room turning the lamp off and was about to head upstairs.

Release me...

"What?" she asked out loud.

Looking back into the dark room she could only see a purple glow. But she was unaware that for a second her eyes glowed violet, but with a blink of her eyes and all was back to normal.

"Uhh, I'm just tired..." she mumbled shaking her head.

With that she went upstairs and to bed.

However else where someone else was far from resting. A G.U.N agent raced around town rapidly searching for something, this agent being Shadow the Hedgehog. And he was understandably annoyed as this was not how he had wanted to spend his night, searching for the Scepter of Darkness.

What agent loses such a crucial weapon? He thought bitterly in his head.

The Scepter, which held the powerful and deadly Mephiles the Dark, was to be transported to a secure vault earlier today. But the idiotic agent lost it during transport, somewhere in the area.

So Shadow knew he had to work fast, otherwise everyone would be in danger.

~The Next Day~

(Y/N) knew she was fully rested, despite the lurid nightmares, so she couldn't blame being tired on the voice that was ringing in her head.

Release me...

Smash the scepter...

Take me to my enemy...

It was that same voice from last night. Still in bed, even though it was gone midday, she hid under the sheets clutching her head wishing and praying for the voice to go away, it was a mans voice, deep and menacing. It kept the same tone repeating the same three lines.

Release me...

Smash the scepter...

Take me to my enemy...

She knew the scepter was the reason why she was hearing this voice, why she had nightmares last night and why she was too scared to get out of bed. She had left the room earlier for a second and her head had throbbed tremendously, as if it were on fire.

She was quick to dive back into bed, it seemed the further away from the scepter she was the better her head felt. So she dare not move.

"I knew I shouldn't have brought it home..." she whimpered to herself.

Release me...

Smash the scepter...

Take me to my enemy...

"That's it!" she cried.

Getting up she threw on a casual outfit and ran downstairs before she could back down, pacing into the sitting room she had to suppress a scream at how much her head was pulsing. Frantic for relief she grabbed the scepter.

And that's when she lost control.

Now you can't refuse me.

A violent spark ran through her body and in an instant she was rigid, holding the scepter firmly in her hand to the side.

"W-what's going on?" she asked out loud.

Her being able to speak and control her line of sight was now the only control she had of her body.

Thank you for letting me in, the voice continued. Expect now the voice didn't echo, it was a clear as day in her head.

"W-who are you?" she stuttered.

I am Mephiles, Mephiles the Dark and I am currently held captive in the scepter you hold.

"What are you? How are you doing this?"

In simple terms your contact with the scepter allows me to use hypnosis, now. Take me to my enemy, smash the scepter and release me.

In a jolting movement (Y/N) began to move. Despite her attempts not to. Leaving the house she caught a glance of herself in the reflection of a window and saw that her eyes were purple.

She was forced to make her way back into town roaming up and down the streets, not knowing who she was looking for or what would happen to her. On the outside to passers by she looked normal, the only thing that caused people to stare was the scepter she held.

"Who is your enemy?" (Y/N) asked in a low voice.

He is named Shadow the Hedgehog, in our last battle I took on his form and I will do so again.

That made (Y/N) panic. Shadow the Hedgehog was one of the best agents of G.U.N and often appeared on the news. For all she knew this Mephiles might make her attack him, and that surely wouldn't end well.

"A-and why's it so important you take on his form?" she continued to ask.

She suspected she would have got an answer if not for:

"You there (A/T)! STOP!"

She involuntary turned around and was met with a sinister looking hedgehog who she recognized.

There he is, Mephiles chuckled in a sinister way.

Shadow started to walk over to her at a fast pace and there's nothing she wanted to do more than run away.

"What are you doing with that scepter?" he demanded once close enough.

"Listen its not what it looks li-

She cut herself on when she punched him to in the jaw! He stumbled back in surprise before instantly trying to attack, but her body moved on its own constantly dodging.

"Hand over the scepter now!" he yelled still attacking.

"You don't understand! Mephiles has me under his control!" (Y/N) tired to tell him, still dodging.

She was only just able to duck another attack when she felt her arm being lifted, the one which held the scepter.

"Don't smash it!" Shadow bellowed.

In one swift moment it collided with the ground the glass shattering! A wave of energy suddenly knocked anyone near down onto the ground, and (Y/N) was roughly sent colliding into a brick wall. Falling to the ground she clutched her spinning head, only just realizing she now had control of her body again.

But when she looked up she could only just see through her blurred vision that where the scepter had been smashed a sort of puddle of dark indigo liquid sat, and a figure was morphing, rising from it.

It took on exactly the same form as Shadow but with duller fur and gray stripes. And no mouth. He laughed at his physical form being returned to him.

"Did you really think that pathetic item would keep me trapped for long?" Mehpiles asked rhetorically.

"It doesn't matter you destroyed the scepter, I'll find another way to seal you!" Shadow declared.

The two then began to violently brawl, Shadow using Chaos energy but Mephiles throwing purple spheres which wreaked damage whenever Shadow only just dodged them and they collided with something else.

Mobians screamed and fled as chaos engulfed the entire town, shops were blown to pieces, glass flying everywhere and any near by buildings being reduced to brick and concrete.

"This is all my fault..." (Y/N) whimpered to herself.

If she had left that bloody scepter alone then Mephiles wouldn't be as powerful as he was now, and the majority of her town already blown to pieces.

"I've got to do something..." she groaned groggily lifting herself to her knees.

Just then she spotted a jagged ended metal pole which had been knocked near her during the destruction of the two hedgehogs battle. Ignoring her sore limbs and throbbing head she reached for it and stumbled to her feet.

Panting a little she waited until Shadow was clear, and then when she saw her chance she ran up to Mephiles and was able to plunge it into his chest from behind. But instantly she could tell it barely fazed him, not even earning a gasp of pain from him.

She tried to get away but with her sluggish senses she couldn't avoid Mephiles' response which was to impact the back of her head, knocking her unconscious.

*********************************

The first thing she was aware of was that the air was dusty. Her eyes felt like lead as she tried to open them and she felt a rough surface underneath her. Eventually though she was able to open her eyes, and at first all she could see was that it was night.

Sitting up she found she couldn't stand up as her legs were badly bruised and she was simply too tired.

Her vision thankfully wasn't blurry anymore, however she felt that her forehead was wet and could tell her scalp had been bleeding. But she was soon able to make out that she was on a cliff of sorts, and only just being able to peer over the edge the view was anything but beautiful.

The town she had been walking down a matter of hours ago was completely, utterly destroyed. It was up in flames barely a trace to be found.

"You're awake."

Gasping she turned her torso to see that monster standing there. Except now his body was made of what looked like indigo crystals or obsidian, his pupil a bright fushia. He was terrifying.

"Why did you destroy the town!? And why am I here!?" she demanded all at once.

"You never cease to ask questions." he said in a teasing manner.

He took a couple of steps towards her and she tried to back away but obviously couldn't. He let out a breathy chuckle at her futile attempts, then gazing out at his 'work'.

"If you must know I destroyed that pathetic town to demonstrate to Shadow my powers and now he is scrambling to his allies in hopes to defeat me. And concerning your presence here." he said looking at her dead in the eye.

She physically flinched.

"I saved your futile life because you did something no one has ever done before." he started.

"And what's that?" (Y/N) asked back nervously.

"You impressed me."

This was that last thing (Y/N) had been expecting to hear. What did he mean by that?

"Your autonomy may be weak but you are currently strong of mind, not many mortals can resist my hypnosis for as long as you did. Even when you were unconscious I couldn't full take control of your form until you actually held the scepter." he explained, sounding almost impressed.

However (Y/N) couldn't feel any achievement, she'd still given in and let all of this destruction happen. She was snapped out of her self scolding when Mephiles roughly grabbed her by the chin forcing her to look directly at him.

"I find it quite an achievement to defeat a strong mind such as yours, which is why I've chosen to keep you as a form of trophy. You should make a fine companion." he said devilishly.

"Let me go!" she snapped weakly.

But he only chuckled at her pathetic attempts to escape him and she knew she was captures now.

If only she had never touched that scepter....
