Chapter 30

For the past one week, Tise had been tutoring me on physics and I could see an improvement since I scored ten in yesterday's test but he scolded me about it and decided to give me morale by promising to gift me something if I should score twenty in the next test, though I didn't think it was possible but I still wanted to try since I was curious about what he wanted to give me.

My friends and I had been studying since morning and now I was already getting bored out of mind, when Crystal was sent to the supermarket, Juliana and I decided to go with her at least to get fresh air.

We strolled to the supermarket and immediately we entered, my eyes caught sight of Zayn talking to one girl who was giggling and I rolled my eyes.

"He's already deceiving that one," Juliana said to me and I nodded.

"I think that's now his hobby," I told her and Crystal picked the curry before turning to us.

"Don't you think we should inform Gbemi?" She queried and I shared a look with Juliana before shaking my head.

"No, that wouldn't be nice. She should find out herself," Juliana responded and Crystal shrugged before going to the other section for beverages and we followed her.

Zayn saw me then and he waved the girl bye before walking up to me. Juliana nudged my shoulders immediately he stood in front of me.

"Hey Julie," he smiled at Juliana who gave him a fake smile in return.

"Hey," she joined Crystal who was already at the front and just when I took a step, he obstructed me and I pursed my lips.

"What do you want?"

His lips stretched into a wide smile.

"Can't I greet you again?"

"You can. We aren't enemies right?"

He bobbed his head.

"Did you think about what I mentioned the other time?"

I knew what he was referring to but I decided to feign ignorance.

"What do you mean?"

"I'm talking about coming back together."

I let out a scoff. "Is that how shameless you are?"

He creased his brows.

"Just let me get this straight to you, you broke up with me first because of something meaningless and I've moved on so, let's remain as friends and lead our separate lives," I concluded and walked away.

Joining the others at the beverage section, they asked about him and we all laughed about it. On our way back home, we came in contact with Ziba and after much exchange of pleasantries, Crystal dragged Juliana away leaving only me and him.

"How have you been?" He started and I glanced at him.

"Fine, you?" I looked away from him as my friends glanced at me with a wink.

"I've been doing okay though a bit sad that you're indifferent to my feelings."

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.

"I don't understand you. Anyway, I need to see my sister." I stopped in front of Kike's place and the gateman upon seeing me opened the door while I smiled at him before strolling into the house.

"You don't have to come with me." I turned back to Ziba who shrugged.

"I want to," he insisted and I nodded before increasing my pace. After knocking on the door twice without any response, I opened the door which wasn't locked and then stepped into the house with Ziba behind me.

The living room was empty when I stepped in and I wondered if no one was at home. Why then did they leave the door open? Pushing the door to Kike's room open, I didn't meet her in the room and even after checking her bathroom, she wasn't there so I went to Keyshia's room but what welcomed me was unsual.

Keyshia was on the floor and as I stepped closer to her, her eyes were closed like she was sleeping but then she kept on groaning and my eyes fluttered before I bent down to her level. She kept on tossing from side to side while groaning and that was when I realized she was having an attack.

"Oh my goodness, Keyshia," I shouted while looking around in search for her drugs but there was nothing in sight.

"Is anything wrong?" Ziba queried as he rushed into the room and I nodded before he moved closer to me.

"Let's get her to the hospital. I'll go get my car," he left the room before I could respond while I sighed before standing up then I opened her drawer in search of her drugs but I couldn't find it.

I was still checking around the room when Ziba returned and then he carried Keyshia while I trailed behind him. Then he drove us to the hospital.

While she was wheeled away, I tried to stay calm but my thoughts kept on running wild. What if I didn't think of visiting them? What if I didn't show up? I didn't want to think of the worst that could happen as Ziba led me to the reception chair.

It's been quite a while since Keyshia experienced such and the last time had been terrible, she'd almost lost her life then and I hope this time doesn't get as worse as then. Good thing I showed up early but where on earth was Kike?

"Where is my phone?" I fumbled through the pockets of my shorts while wondering if I'd dropped it earlier.

"Here, you dropped it in the car," Ziba pointed my phone at me and I collected it instantly before dialling Kike's number.

While I tried her number several times, she didn't pick until I got fed up and I sighed in annoyance before dumping the phone on my laps and awaiting the doctor's arrival.

"What is wrong with her?" Ziba who had forgotten his presence queried and I glanced at him.

"I think it's one of her attacks, she's SS."

"Oh. I had a friend like that too but he died two years ago," he responded and I turned to him.

"Sorry to hear that." I didn't actually want to hear about sickle cell patients that died of it, it was raised my tension and makes my thoughts run wild. I just couldn't imagine losing Keyshia. Just where on earth was the doctor?

My phone vibrated on my laps and I picked it up instantly believing it was Kike and I made a resolve to lash out at her but looking at the screen, it was Juliana and I knew they would have been worried.

"Did you follow Ziba to his place?" That was the first thing Juliana asked immediately I picked the call and I knitted my brows. If it had been in another situation, I would have chuckled but I just couldn't bring myself to smile let alone chuckle.

"No, I brought Keyshia to the hospital."

"What! What happened to her? Or is it for checkup?" Juliana rambled and I sighed yet again.

"She had an attack."

"Oh my goodness! How is she now? Should we come over?"

I shook my head. "Don't worry about that. I'll let you know her condition when the doctor returns."

"Okay then. Stay strong okay?" The line went dead after that and I looked down at my phone before the doctor approached us, I got up that instant and he asked the necessary questions before telling us her condition.

"She's stable now but she needs proper monitoring, she has to stay here for a few days," he explained and I heaved a sigh of relief.

"Can I see her now?"

"She's resting," he concluded before taking his leave and I slumped on the chair. Thank goodness.

Kike's call entered immediately and I glared at my phone as if she was the one before picking it up.

"Why have you been disturbing me since? What's it?" Her high pitched voice came from the end.

"Where did you drop your phone? Where are you? I've been calling to let you know Keyshia had an attack, thank God I came in at the right time, if not..."

She cut me short, "Oh my gosh! How did it happen? Is she stable now?"

"She's receiving treatment in the hospital. How come you were so negligent? Where did you go for goodness sake?"

"You can't expect me to keep staying with her everytime. I'm in Abuja by the way," she hissed and that fueled my anger.

"When did you go there? What are you doing there gan?"

"Business. I'll be back early tomorrow morning."

I scoffed. "Can you hear yourself? Is that how insensitive you are? Tell me are those useless idiots better than your sister?" I snapped before hearing her sigh from the other end.

"I'm sorry. There's no way I can leave here now, I promise to be back early."

I hissed before dropping the phone on my laps in annoyance. What nonsense?
