AMELIA'S P.O.V:

/ / / /

It was quite funny really, how I couldn't count how many times I've been in a police car on my own two hands. Better yet, not even all 4 of my limbs.  But I guess that was just my life, trouble. Ryan nudges my foot and I look at him in confusion. He had a cigarette in his hands and I glare at it.

"What do you want?" I asked and he glared at me for being loud.

"A lighter." He mouthed and I rolled my eyes and shook my head.

"I don't have one, sorry." Ryan scoffed.

"That's a lie." He muttered and I sighed. I put my hand in my bra and he watched me intently and pulled out a lighter. I passed it to him and glared. He rolled his window down and lit the death stick expertly before he breathed it in.

"Put that out. Now." PC MC Ovis said and turned to Ryan.

"Why should I?" He asked and dangled the stick from his fingers lightly. He was teasing him.

"Because I told you to. Now do it." Ovis said and I sighed.

"Just do it Ryan." I said and rested my head on my window. That was something I never knew about Ryan. I'd never seen him smoke before, and I'd known him a while. He growled out something under his breath and threw it out of the window but pocketed the lighter. Ovis glared at him and when Ryan didn't notice he sighed and turned back around.

"Why do you do it?" I asked without looking at him. I didn't agree with smoking. I'd tried it but regretted it straight away. That was something no one expected about me. If there was one thing you could practically guarantee about a bad boy or girl, it was that they smoked. But I didn't. I hated it with a passion. It reminded me of him.

"Why do you?" Ryan asked and I looked at him.

"I don't."

"Then why do you have a lighter?" He asked and I sighed.

"They come in handy sometimes."

"You're a liar." Ryan said and held eye contact with me.

"I don't smoke. That's the truth. Now answer me." I said strictly and he sighed again before he broke eye contact.

"I only do it when I'm stressed. It reminds me that there's something to rely on."

"And you can't rely on me?" I asked him and he looked at me sadly.

"You can't rely on anyone Amelia. No matter how close you are, or even how much you love them." He said quietly and I swallowed the lump in my throat. This had something to do with the way he was acting in the car after we left Aaron's house. There was something running around in his brain and I intended to find out what it was. He turned away from me and I did the same.

"When are we going to arrive at this shitty Police Station then? Or are you going to run your errands whilst you're here since you guys never do your job properly?" I asked smugly.

"Ever heard of the term, 'respect your elders'?" MC Morris asked.

"Yep."

"Then use it."

"And if I don't?" I asked. I held eye contact with him through the wing mirror.

"Community service."

"You wouldn't do that." I grated out venomously.

"I wouldn't?"

"The last time I went to community service someone ended up with a black eye and broken wrist didn't they Ovis?" I asked innocently.

"Yes. They did." He gritted and I smirked at his reaction.

"See, even Ovis here thinks it would be a bad idea."

"Whatever. Just stay silent and belt up." MC Morris said and I rolled my eyes. I had to make out that I didn't care about anyone or anything, because if I so much as acted like I cared, they would see an opening to try and make me become a 'better person'.

Just like they did last time.

As we drove, my head filled with images of why I lashed out on Ovis at my last community service session. I'd never had one since. It all just reminded me of him. The police car, the officers, the pity looks.

At one point, I managed to convince myself that everything happened for a reason. That it all happened so that I could learn from the situations and better myself and others. Yet, all that came from it was a cold, bad trouble-maker who was scared to let anyone in in case they hurt her.

But all anyone ever did was blame the way I was on me. Everyone blamed everything that happened in that time period on me. Whenever times got rough for someone they blamed it on me.

I guess that was part of the reason why I never let people in. I was scared they'd hurt me and blame it on me still, even though I would be the one hurt.

I was a joke to everyone. They all used to mutter about me behind my back, make fun of how I turned out, of my parents, then they acted like best friend's when I was with them. I guess the joke really was on me.

We entered the Police Station with our hands behind out back because they re-cuffed us when we got out of the car. We were guided to the waiting room. Even though everyone knew we didn't need to be shown, it wasn't like we'd never been there before.

Deserted was the word I'd use to describe the place. Our town wasn't very big and it definitely wasn't famous for trouble, other then the odd drunken bar fight here and there. The residents liked to stay away from drama yet I seemed to attract it.

We were both cuffed to a seat and we sat in silence.

"Why did you bring me to the swimming pool?" Ryan asked suddenly and I swallowed and looked away.

"I knew you had something on your mind and I wanted to help you relax."

"You said you'd been there multiple times when it was locked. Why?" He asked and I sighed.

"It helps me relax. Whenever I get memories of-" I cut myself off. "-Whenever things get too much I go there and let all of my worries go. I thought you could do the same. For whatever is on your mind." I said and he nodded.

"Oh."

"What is on your mind? The way you went quiet in the car. You let me drive. You smoked. What's wrong?" I asked and Ryan sighed.

"I just... In the car, I had flashbacks of my mum and I guess it just hit me how much I miss her even though she isn't the best mum out there and never was." Ryan said and his voice was hoarse.

"And the smoking?"

"She used to, I guess it's a habit I've gotten used to when i'm upset or stressed and don't know where to go or who to talk to to let off steam. I know it's bad and I really have only done it a few times."

"You can always come to me." I whispered and he looked at me. For one of the first times I saw Ryan look vulnerable. I wanted to hug him, kiss him, anything. But I couldn't.

"Get the fu*k off of me you little dickhead! You're hurting me! Get your filthy hands off of me or I swear your D will no longer be in tact tomorrow morning!" A girly shout sounded from the hallway. Ryan and I looked and a short, brunette girl was being walked in. She was struggling and the Officer looked as if he had been hit a few times in her struggle. He finally cuffed her to the chair next to me and she spat at him as he walked off.

"Tsk. Tsk. Tsk." Ryan tutted and turned to the girl. "Shouting abuse and spitting will not get you out of here any faster."

"Leave Ryan. No one wants your shitty remarks here." She grinned at him and winked after. I glared at her. I couldn't help but feel threatened by her. Not by her, as a person, but by the relationship and history Ryan and her obviously shared.

Ryan barely ever joked around with me like that. Their relationship seemed free, friendly and innocently flirty. It was something Ryan and I could never have.

She was pretty, with light brown hair in a messy top-knot, dark eye make-up and pink lipstick. She wore a gold glittery jacket, and plain black crop top and high waisted shorts. She paired her outfit with sparkly heeled trainers.

She shifted uncomfortably in her seat and I pursed my lips to stop myself from laughing at her. She was obviously an amateur. She knocked my shoulder harshly and muttered a 'soz' in my direction. She finally found her comfy spot and I rolled my eyes at her angrily.

"So, Ryan. What did you do this time? Get drunk, steal a car, throw an out of control party, beat someone up?" She asked and I glared at her from the corner of my eye. Why was it any of her business?

"You, Cher, were the one drunk!" Ryan exclaimed and they both laughed.

"Dude, I wasn't that drunk!"

"You climbed a tree in heels and started shouting at us guys about how shocked you were that broccoli could be so big; whilst the police were chasing us!"Ryan exclaimed and they both burst out laughing. I bet she thought she was cool, acting really dumb and drunk to get in Ryan's pants.

"Oh my god! I completely forgot about that! Good times."

"Obviously, you were with me."

"Could you both stop flirting before I puke all over myself?" I asked sarcastically. I was angry. I thought Ryan and I were in a good place then she came along.

"Aw, honey. Trust me there is nothing to be jealous about. I would never date Ryan. No offence to you of course." Cher said and patted my shoulder in what was meant to be a comforting gesture. I shrugged her pesky hand off of me and ignored her. "Tough crowd I see."

"How about you shut your scummy little mouth?" I asked venomously.

"How about you piss off back to Jealous Vile honey?" Cher asked. She bit her lip, as if she was trying not to laugh.

I was anything but amused.

"How about you girls break it up. Jesus Christ." Ryan said. "Amelia, don't be jealous. She's ugly as, I wouldn't ever go anywhere near her unless it was friendly." He added when he saw my un-amused expression.

"Hey! You wanna take that back douche bag?"Cher asked jokingly and I rolled my eyes.

"Whatever." I grumbled and heard heavy footsteps. Our eyes all snapped to a bruely looking Police Officer.

"Amelia Russel?" He asked. He uncuffed me and I was led out of the room but I made sure to glare at Cher the whole time.
