"Can I help you?" A small voice asked. I followed the sound and looked down. In front of me stood a small girl with bright blonde hair. Music was blasting from inside and I could hear chatter that sounded from the Kitchen and Living room. I smiled at the little girl. I didn't want to scare her. I winced as my face throbbed at the action. I had no clue who she was. I looked at the door to check I had the right number. I did. The little girl gasped as her eyes ran down me.
"Are you okay?" She asked. Her green eyes were wide and her hands came off of the door which seemed triple the size of her. She couldn't have been much older than 5. I tried to smile to assure her that I was fine but couldn't. I settled for nodding my head, as I did so, I went the dizziest i'd ever been. I stumbled backwards and grabbed the door frame to keep myself standing. "Don't you dare lie to me!" The girl exclaimed. One of her hands rested on her hip and the other pointed at me accusingly. "Now are you hurt? Yes or no." She asked seriously. I had to hold my laugh in because I knew that it would physically pain me. It was very hard to, when a little girl was ordering you around like you were younger than her.
"Yes." I croaked out. Along with trying to hold my laugh in, I was trying not to cry. I hurt, I hurt so much.
"Right. Now that wasn't that hard was it?" She huffed. She grabbed my hand that wasn't resting on the door frame and dragged me inside. She shut the door after me. The music inside only got louder. It was pumping, like a party was going on. As the girl dragged me inside I noticed what she was wearing. Her hair was up in a tight bun and wore a pale pink nighty that came to her ankles. It had white polka dots on it. Her skin looked squeaky clean, like she'd recently been washed. She also had on a pair of pale pink slippers with white dots on also, although these were of a different size. Her tiny hand squeezed mine as she brought me close to the living room and I looked at it. It was half the size of mine, her nails were painted pale pink also.
We entered the living room, the music made my headache worsen, and no one noticed us. She slammed the front room door shut with force and pouted when no one registered our presence. She sighed, cleared her throat and gripped my hand harder.
"Will everyone shut up for one god-for-saken minute please?" She shouted and I flinched at the ferocity in her tone. She squeezed my hand once again and this time I squeezed hers back. The music was turned down and everyone turned to face us. I couldn't make out anyone's faces, they were all one big blur. I could make out shapes and individual people but not their faces. I could hear every word said though.
"Summer, who is this?"
"You have dragged in some scum from the streets!"
"Oh my! She isn't even in proper clothes."
"Is that blood?"
"Doesn't she know of a shower?"
"What have we told you about bringing in people from the streets Summer?"
Out of all that, one voice stuck out the most. It was a woman's, she was the one who spoke the most, with the worst comments. A man's voice was there also, along with an older woman's voice. As they spoke I went dizzier then I already was and knew I was close to passing out.
"Will you all shut the hell up? Can't you see she's hurt and needs our help? God you guys are blind-"
Those words, from the girl - Summer - were the last I heard before I fell to the floor, passed out.
====
I woke up to a little girl leaning in very close to my face. She was studying me intensely.
"Hello?" I asked, my voice came out quiet and groggy. I had a pounding headache. I went to sit up but fell back down in pain.
"Sh, don't sit up. Doctor Summer is here now to help." Summer said. I briefly remembered seeing her last night but couldn't put much together. Her hand ran down my head and I flinched when she touched the back of it. She immediately withdrew. "Sorry. Here, I was told to give you these when you woke up to help with the headache you have from drinking too much fizzy last night." She explained. I nodded and took the two paracetamols from her, along with a cup of water. As I swallowed them I remembered last night. I remembered the fight with Derek, seeing Penny, kissing Reese and running back home to find Gilbert and getting the crap beaten out of me.
I remembered every single detail.
"Thank-you." I whispered and she gave me the largest grin I think i'd ever seen. I gave her a small smile back, but stopped because it hurt too much. My lips felt swollen. My back hurt and my hands stung.
I heard the front door slam open and jumped slightly. Summer looked at the door of the living room, where we were, with her lips pursed. The slamming happened again as the door was shut. I looked at Summer and wondered who she was. I knew the living room, it was identical to Ryan's, but there was no sign of him, or Cindy or his Dad; only the little girl. I'd never seen her before and Ryan never mentioned having any cousins or anything. Outside the living room door, which I couldn't see as I was laying on the sofa, I heard a mumbled conversation but couldn't work out what the people were saying. I heard someone enter and Summer ran to greet them.
"Ryan!" She squealed and my eyes widened. I tilted my head as far as I could and got a glimpse of Ryan with Summer in his arms. He looked stressed and his eyes flicked to me. His eyes widened in what I assumed to be surprise. He looked away from me and to Summer. "Oh Ryan!-" She exclaimed. "-Did you know? This girl came here last night, she's very pretty and nice, and she was all hurt so I took her to see Mummy and she told me I could be the doctor when the girl woke up because she fell asleep on the floor suddenly! So I got to give her some special pills and water to hep with the headache she has from drinking too much fizzy!" She rambled in what seemed like one breath. Ryan nodded as she spoke. His eyes were trained on hers. He held her in his arms like she was as light as a feather.
"Well, Doctor Summer, you seem to have done your job! So I can take it from here okay?" He said and placed her back on the floor. "Your Mum wants to see you in the kitchen too." Ryan finished and Summer nodded. She ran out of the room and before Ryan could walk further than two steps she came running back in. She ran over to me and wrapped her arms around me, even though I was still lying down. I looked down at her, shocked, and wrapped my arms around her. She pulled away and smiled at me.
"See you soon!" She exclaimed and ran off again. Ryan walked forwards so that he was completely in my view, and put his keys on the coffee table.
"Let me guess-" He started dryly. "-You got jealous because of Anastasia and didn't know how to handle it, so decided to come over, wrap Summer into your mess, even though she's only 5, only to realise that I wasn't even here. And so, you had to act like you were drunk so that you could stay the night. Am I right, or am I right?" He asked, with a smirk. He looked me dead in the eyes and my mouth fell open. The smirk he gave me wasn't his usual cocky smirk, it was deadly, just like the one he gave me when we argued. I furrowed my eyebrows at him. I swallowed the lump in my throat.
"Do you really think i'd do something like that? Do you really think that low of me?" I asked. My voice was hoarse and it was obvious I was holding back tears. I was over-whelmed,in pain, scared and just wanted comfort. I didn't know why I chose to come to his house last night, even when I knew it was dangerous but I did.
"Well you did do it, so..."He trailed off. I closed my eyes and wiped away the stray tear that rolled down my cheek.
"You do think that of me." I whispered. I didn't let myself show any emotion in my voice. He obviously didn't care. He studied me for a minute but I wouldn't look at him. Another tear fell and I wiped it away as quick as it came. When I did finally look up, at him, I was ready to tell him where to go, but when I saw the look of shock on his face, the words died in my throat.
"W.What?" He stuttered. I really wanted to smirk but couldn't because of the pain.
"I was actually drunk, and not because I saw you with Ana-whatever. I have no clue why I came to your house but I did. And I just- I don't..." I said but stopped. My mouth hurt when I spoke.
"You don't what?" He asked. His eyes never left me. I went to pull myself to sit up but hissed in pain. I didn't want to scream or cry. I wasn't raised a cry baby. "What's going on?" He asked me warily. I scrunched my face up as I held my head and lower back. I was half sitting, half laying. I didn't even have enough hands to hold my stomach or lips. I let in a quick breath and tried my hardest not to move.
I really didn't want to scream or cry, so let out a short whimper instead.
Ryan immediately stalked towards me and knelt in front of me. He looked over me and shook his head.
"What do you do to yourself?"He whispered to himself. I shut my eyes as I tried to handle the pain. I needed to move as I wasn't comfortable but it hurt. I felt something wet on my hands and I had a bad feeling it was blood. "Can you move?" Ryan asked me.
"No." I groaned. I heard him gulp.
"Alright. I'm going to lift you up, alright? Just...Yeah." He muttered as he stood up. He bent down and slipped one hand around my back -it stung but I knew it wouldn't hurt for long- and the other moved the blanket from my legs and wrapped under my knees. I was still wearing my leather jacket and leggings, but my shoes were not on my feet. He lifted me with ease and I hissed slightly. I saw the look of guilt on his face as we started to walk. "I'll put you down in a minute, okay? I promise." He said.
He entered the kitchen. In there, was Summer, who was looking at Ryan with wide eyes as he walked with me and a blonde woman who looked exactly the same as Summer.
"Whoa. How are you so strong?" Summer asked Ryan, her eyes were still wide.
"Mmm. Give us a minute." Ryan ordered the blonde woman. She looked down at me in what looked like disgust and nodded. She picked up Summer and left. "Sorry about her." He mumbled and put me on the counted. I was sitting up and it felt nice to be able to sit up straight. I didn't say anything and Ryan walked over to the cabinets. He opened one and got out a first aid box. He brought it over to me and placed it next to me on the counter. He stood in front of my legs and I rolled my eyes and opened them slightly so he could stand close to me.
"I'm fine." I mumbled. Ryan rolled his eyes at me and stared at me for a while. One of his hands came up to my face and one of his fingers traced my bottom lip. It was swollen, that much I could tell. I looked down at my hands which were in my lap, and swallowed hard when I noticed the smeared blood on them. Ryan's eyes followed mine and he grabbed my wrists. He pulled my hand up and studied it.
"Sure you're fine?" He asked me and I stayed silent. He dropped my hand. "Where does it hurt the most?" He asked and I sighed.
"The back of my head, my back and stomach." I answered. There was no point putting up a fight when he could help me. I shouldn't have been there but if I got up and left it would look suspicious. Plus, I wasn't even sure I could.
"Okay, take your jacket off then." He said and I froze.
"My jacket. Right." I said un-easily. It wasn't like Ryan hadn't seen me in my bra before, but it wasn't the point.
"Just do it." He said.
"Fine." I muttered and unzipped it. It rolled it off my shoulders and held it on my lap. Ryan's eyes widened and a strange look came upon his face when he realised I didn't have a top on.
"Um. Alright then." He said and I sighed. I had no clue what was running around his head but I knew that he probably was no where near the reason why my top was actually already off. He bent down and looked at my stomach. His hand brushed the spot where it hurt and I inhaled sharply. "What the hell did you do?" He asked. When I didn't answer he sighed frustratedly. "Fine, whatever. Just let me look at your head." He said and I moved myself so that my back was to him. I was sat on the middle island and luckily didn't have to worry about bumping into a wall when I turned. I felt his hands in my hair and when he stiffened I started to get worried.
"What?" I asked quietly.
"There's blood in your hair." He said hardly and I shut my eyes. Crap, was the only thought running around my head. His hands moved my hair and he sighed. "God Amelia."
"What?" I asked again.
"There's a big cut, luckily it's stopped bleeding and the blood in your hair is dried but there's still a lump." He said and I felt him put an ice pack on my head. It relieved some of the pain instantly and I held it in place so he could continue.
"Where else does it hurt?" He asked quietly.
"Lower back." I whispered. I had no idea why I was being so quiet. I guess I felt a bit awkward. We hadn't spoken since our argument and only saw each other last night. I didn't know what to say, whether I should apologise or not. Plus, if I spoke too much, I had a feeling i'd end up telling him everything.
He bent down and ran his hand over the sore spot.
"It's only a bruise here, like on your stomach, i'll just put a bandage around both so that there's a bit of cushioning, then i'll wash your hand and clean it." He explained and I nodded. He stood back up and asked me to turn back around. He got out a bandage. I sat up as straight as I could. He leant down and started to wrap it around my stomach and lower back. "I really need to get you a t-shirt after this." He mumbled and I let out a slight, choked laugh. I felt like I was going to cry. He finished wrapping the bandage and tied it up. He stood up straight. "Now for your hand." He said and absentmindedly lifted both up. The blood was still there.
He helped me down from the counter top and walked me over to the fridge slowly. It hurt a little when I walked, but I could manage a few steps. He turned the tap on and put both my hands under it.
"So what did you do to your hand?" He asked. Images of being pushed into my wardrobe, it collapsing and then landing on sharp pieces of wood flashed in my mind.
I only shrugged though. He sighed.
"You're telling me everything when we're done." He said harshly. I knew he didn't mean to be harsh, he was frustrated because I wouldn't tell him anything. He uses his hand and rubs mine to try and wipe the blood off. When the blood is off of both he lifts me up and puts me back on the counter. He grabs a wipe and starts to wipe the large cut on my hand. It was on my left, my right one only had a graze on it, and ran from half way down my middle finger to just below half way of my palm. It stung a little and was still slightly bleeding from being touched but it didn't hurt as much as my head. Ryan grabbed a bandage and wrapped it from my wrist up to where the cut ended. "Does anything else hurt?" He asked and I shook my head.
He put everything back in the box and put it back in the cupboard. He came back over to me and helped me down from the counter. When I was down he suddenly wrapped his arms around me. He held my head to his chest and wrapped his other arm around my shoulders. I put my arms around his waist and let him hug me. It felt nice, he was the comfort i'd been craving, and as much as it pained me, I knew it should have been the last time I let him that close to me.
"What am I going to do with you?" He asked in a whisper.
"How about not hug the trash and prostitutes Summer brings in." A girl voice sounds form the doorway. I pull away from Ryan angrily and glare at the girl at the door. It was Anna-what's-her-face.
"Anastasia." Ryan acknowledged blandly. She walked in the kitchen further, until she was stood next to us.
"I don't think we have properly met yet; I'm Anastasia, Ryan's girlfriend." She said and put emphasis on 'girlfriend'.
"Uh, actua-"
"Sh Ryan." She said and put her finger on his lips. He glared at it and moved backwards a few steps. He brought me with him. "-I know we haven't made it official yet but-"
"But I don't think i've properly introduced myself to you either. I'm Amelia. You met me yesterday at the pub. Thing is, that Amelia was work Amelia. Now we're here, with no witnesses-"
"There's Ryan." She cut in abruptly. I laughed. It was fake but it was needed.
"Aw. Ryan, she thinks you'd actually take her side." I said mockingly and looked up at Ryan. He smirked down at me amusedly. I cleared my throat. "-But anyway. I know you don't like me, and i'm pretty sure you can see that i'm not exactly fond of you either, but what you don't seem to see, is that Ryan, you know, this one-" I pointed to him "- Yeah, him. You fail to see that he's not interested. I'm pretty sure he's told you anyway, but I just thought i'd make sure that we're clear-" I stepped forward until I was face to face with her. It hurt but I didn't let her see that. "Ryan is mine. You touch him and I will personally hurt you." I threatened in a low whisper. She gulped. I stepped back so that I was next to Ryan. "Anyway, nice meeting you." I said nicely. She glared at me.
"Get out."
"Excuse me?" I asked.
"Get. Out." She repeated. I glared at her.
"What makes you think you have the right to tell me what to do?" I asked. I went to step forward but Ryan grabbed my arm and held me to his side.
"The fact that all anyone's done since you got here, drunk, last night, is talk crap about you. And the fact that i'm not the only one that wants you to leave. Now go." She said and gestured towards the door. I was seething. I went to run for her but Ryan held me to him, I tried to remove myself but he used his strength against me. He was strong, i'd give him that.
"Let go of me." I seethed and glared up at him.
"No."
"Let go!" I exclaimed and he shook his head.
"No."
"Why not?" I asked angrily. I knew he didn't like her, so why wouldn't he let me make her face uglier then it already was?
"Because-" He said loudly. He leant down to my ear and started to whisper so that Anastasia couldn't hear him. "-You're hurt. As much as i'd love to see you put her in her place, she deals worse with messing with her emotions then her face. Also, I need to get that story out of you. You are not leaving until I do, so the police turning up and arresting you for murder will kind of ruin my plan." He finished and leant back up. I smirked at Anastasia, to make it seem like Ryan had just told me something bad about her. I smirked, even though Ryan's joke about being a murderer made me want to cry as the image of Cher and I's conversation popped up in my head.
She told me she'd do something if he attacked again. He did. But what would she do? Was I better off hiding it from her and dealing with it myself, so that no one else got hurt, or was I better off letting her get the police involved and potentially ruin other people's lives too?
"Get out of my house." Ryan said coldly. He didn't even look at Anastasia, he simply ordered her.
"Huh?"
"Don't come back until tomorrow. Otherwise i'll tell Nan exactly what you just said to my friend here-"
"I thought she said yesterday she was your girlfriend?" Anastasia cut in. Ryan laughed. His arms never moved from hugging me as he spoke to her.
"I was trying to spare your feelings. But if you want me to be blunt I will. Get out otherwise i'll tell Nan exactly what you said to her future granddaughter-in-law." Ryan said coldly and she huffed before she left. My heart fluttered at the thought of being engaged to Ryan in the future.
Then reality hit. We shouldn't have even been friends in the situation I was in, let alone in a relationship. It made me upset, I loved him. Even after everything he'd done and said when we argued, I loved him. And it killed me to know that i'd never be able to be with him.
Unless. Unless I told him everything, he might have known what to do. But there was always that what if. What if Gilbert found out Ryan knew about everything? What if Ryan didn't know what to do and it put everyone in danger.
What if he hated me for the things i'd done in the past, when I was in the gang?
What if he was disgusted with me?
"Now, are you ready to tell me what happened?" Ryan pulled away and asked. I looked at him for a few seconds. I was in thought, debating whether or not to just tell him.
"Are you going to let me have a shower? Are you going to introduce me to your guests?" I asked.
It was better to wait. At least until I had my head around what happened. Until I weighed out the pro's and con's. Until I decided if I wanted to risk everything for him.
"Well played. Come on, let's get you to the shower." He said and lifted me up, bridal style before I could have even protested.
"I feel like an invalid." I pouted. He chuckled.
"You are. Don't pout." He said.
"Why?" I asked as he carried me past the living room and towards the stairs.
"It tempts me." He answered simply. He took a step on the first stair when he was stopped.
"Ryan?"
"Yes?"
"Where are you taking, um, what's her name again?" Summer asked.
"I'm Amelia, Doctor Summer right?" I asked and her face lit up.
"You remembered! Yeah, Amelia, up to play?" She asked hopefully. Ryan smirked to himself. I hit his arm.
"If that's what you want to-"
"Yes Summer, we're going upstairs to play." I said simply, I had cut Ryan off. I didn't mind playing a few games with her if it meant Ryan would get off of my case about telling the story.
"Yay! Let's go play!" Summer exclaimed and ran up the stairs.
"You know that could be considered-"
"Shut up Sean." Ryan interrupted.
"Yeah! Shut up Sean!" Summer shouted from upstairs. I chuckled slightly.
"Don't gang up on-" Sean stopped when his eyes ran over me. "Hello there, and you might-"
"Leave us alone Sean." Ryan sighed. Sean looked a few years older then us and had short brown hair and green eyes. He wasn't ugly, he just wasn't really my type.
"I'm Sean, you are?" He carried on. I rolled my eyes. He held his hand out for me to shake.
"Not interested." I said and left him hanging. His hand slowly went back to his side. Ryan was glaring at Sean and they had a short stare down before Sean smirked and looked down at me.
"It was nice meeting you not interested." His said and just as he was about to walk away Summer ran back down the stairs.
"Horsey Ryan, take Amelia upstairs so we can play!" She exclaimed. "And go away Sean the sheep no one likes you!" She shouted and ran back up the stairs giggling. Sean shook his head with a smile on his face and walked away.
"Now take me up stairs horsey." I said to Ryan and he laughed slightly. He walked me up the stairs and into his room. He put me on the bed and sat down next to me. Summer was sat in the corner of Ryan's room on a pink bean bag. Next to the bean bag there was a pink sleeping bag on top of a blow up bed, along with pink teddies. Summer turned and faced me.
"Are you better now Amelia?" She asked innocently.
"Yes, i'm much better now you and Ryan helped me by being doctors. Thanks Summer." I said and Ryan went into the bathroom attached to his room.
"That's good then. What happened?" She asked. I froze.
"I, uh. I fell off of my bike in my garden because I drank way too much fizzy." I lied and she nodded. If only Ryan was as easy to fool as Summer. Ryan came out from the bathroom and walked over to me.
"Shower's ready." He said and went to pick me up. I pushed his hands away.
"I want to walk." I said. He held his hands out and used them to help pull myself up. We stood chest to chest.
"Are you sure you can?" He asked.
"Yes i'll be fine."
"I want to help you though, at least let me put my arms around you." He said and I rolled my eyes.
"If you really want to." I muttered. He put his arm around my waist and helped me towards the bathroom. I went inside and went to shut the door. Ryan moved his foot before it could shut. "Yes?"
"Are you sure you don't need any help in there?" He asked and a smirk appeared on his face. I gave him a blank look.
"I'm sure Ryan."
"Not even with your bandages?" He asked and I rolled my eyes. I couldn't help the small smile that appeared even though it hurt a little.
"Not even with my bandages." I said. He stared at me for a few seconds before he removed his foot from the doorway.
"Have a nice shower without me." He said cockily and started to walk over to Summer who was playing with her Teddy Bears.
"I will, don't worry." I said and shut the door.
Damn you Ryan. You're making me want to tell you.
