There was a knock on my front door. I was home alone and couldn't help the way my heart felt like it stopped at the noise. I walked to the door and opened it gingerly. I sighed when I only saw Ryan.
"Oh my god, you nearly gave me a heart attack I-"
I couldn't talk because of the lips that pressed against mine. They moved away before I could process what was happening. He brushed past me and entered my house. I was left staring at empty space. I shut the door and followed him to the living room. He was standing up and looking around. There were some pictures on the walls and it made the place look more homely. He was staring at them.
I was confused. I didn't know why he was here. We both knew that it was dangerous for us to be seen together, alone. It gave Gilbert an opportunity to hurt the people we cared about. Ryan never seemed to care about that factor though.
He looked good. His hair was all over the place which showed he had run his hands through it. His eyes looked darker than normal. They were filled with something, some type of emotion but I couldn't place what it was. He had a small smile on his lips as he looked at the pictures. Pictures of me as a kid, pictures of my Dad and I. There was even a picture of my Mum and I. It was the one Reese had given me when I saw him. Ryan had on his signature leather jacket and a button up white shirt with black prints all over it.
White made him look tanned. It was a good look. He wore some black trousers and his black vans. I didn't know what it was about him that day, but he looked different. He looked more attractive than usual. Maybe it was the aura that surrounded him. It screamed power and confidence and it was something i'd never noticed before.
I liked it.
I liked it more then I should have.
"Ryan why are you here?" I asked him and he turned to look at me. His eyes were curious as they drank me in. I hadn't seen or heard from him in days. I hadn't spoken to him since the night of the party.
I missed him.
I missed him more then I should have. I should have taken the distance as a good thing. He knew about Gilbert and that meant he was in more danger then he was before. I was almost certain Gilbert already knew. I was just waiting for the attack.
"Is there a reason why I shouldn't be here?" He asked me. His eyes roamed my face and I felt like he could read my every thought and feeling. I felt self-conscious in front of him and I had no idea why. There was no reason for me to be, but he made me feel that way. I was wearing some leggings and a crop top, it wasn't anything special and it wasn't anything bad. It was just casual. A look I was wearing more often. The crop top wasn't black, surprisingly. It was pink.
I knew he liked the colour pink on me.
He smirked as he picked up on my hesitation.
"Tell me Amelia, is there a reason that I shouldn't be here?" He asked me. He took a step forward and stood opposite me. I was nearest to the door, I stayed leant against the wall. I didn't move. "Am I not allowed to miss you?" He asked me. His eyebrows were furrowed as he stared at me and I swallowed.
He was confusing me. I wanted him closer to me, but I also wanted him to leave.
It was the worst feeling in the world.
"It's dangerous for you to be here Ryan. You know that." I said quietly. I couldn't meet his eye. I felt guilty. I missed him too but I knew he needed to leave. I couldn't let him tangle himself up in my mess anymore then he had already. He laughed but stopped when he realised I was serious.
"Amelia...You and I both know that I don't care about that. I won't let him hurt you. I won't let him hurt anyone." Ryan said. His voice was deep and it held love. Not just love for me, but for everyone.
"I know but that's not the point Ryan." I said. I wanted my voice to come out strong and confident but it didn't. It came out weak and defeated. I knew he wouldn't leave without a good enough reason, but for some reason, I was still trying.
"Then tell me what is the point, Amelia." He ordered and I shut my eyes briefly to gather my thoughts. He had the ability to jumble them up and I hated it just as much as I loved him.
That was a lot.
"I'm bad for you." I said weakly. I knew that it was my last reason for him to leave.
I secretly knew he wouldn't, too.
"Yet I still keep coming back for more. Funny how it works isn't it?" He asked but I knew there was no need for me to answer.
"You, badboy, need to spare yourself."
"Or what, exactly?" He asked, a devious, cocky smirk was plastered on his face as he advanced towards me. The look in his eyes was anything but innocent this time.
"Or you're going to get hurt. In more ways than one." I tried. He stopped walking. He was close to me. So close that I could smell his cologne. He bit his lip and my eyes focused in on the movement, instead of trying to get him to leave.
"Am I now?" He asked. He took another step forward and our bodies were touching. His hands ran down my arms and grabbed mine before he pinned them to the wall. I was silent. I didn't know what to say. "Tell me, Amelia. How am I going to be hurt? Because you and I both know that I will not give Gilbert a chance to hurt me, or my family, or my friends, or you.-"
"You're giving him a chance right now." I whispered. I knew i'd cut him off but at that point I didn't care. I was trying to make my mind up. I could let him stay, and forget about my problems for a while. Or I could make him leave and ultimately hurt his feelings.
"No, Amelia, i'm not. I'm not giving Gilbert a chance to hurt me. I'm giving you a chance. You have the power to break my heart, and if you didn't want me here, you would have broken it a long time ago." He whispered. He pressed his body against mine and our breaths mingled at the proximity. His nose nudged mine and I stared up at his eyes. I knew what the look in them was.
Need.
He needed me, and in that moment I needed him too. Not physically, mentally. His eyes held a thousand different emotions but the two that stood out were excitement and need.
He needed me for something, but he had to make sure I wanted to help him first.
"I don't want to break your heart." I whispered and a smile grew on his lips. He was beautiful.
"And why's that?" He asked. One of his hands trailed down my arm, over my shoulder and up my neck before it rested holding my jaw.
"Because if I break your heart i'm breaking mine too." I said and instead of answering he kissed me.
His lips moved against mine slowly, but they soon sped up. Our lips moved, and our hearts thumped. One of his hands held mine, the other gripped my chin to pull us closer. One of my hands held his and the other wrapped around his neck. He was all i'd ever need and I could only hope that I could work out how to get Gilbert off of my case so that I could be with Ryan.
As cheesy as it was, I needed him in my life. He made me happy.
After a while of kissing I pulled away, breathless. We didn't move though. We stayed in close proximity. A smile stretched across his face and I smiled back.
"I've got something to tell you." He whispered and I made a noise that urged him to continue. "I spoke to my Mum last night." He whispered and I looked up at him in shock.
"You did?" I asked. I was happy for him.
"Mm. I'm planning to go and see her tomorrow."
"Tomorrow?" I asked. That was soon.
"Yeah, it's why I came over. I want you to come with me." He whispered. His hand moved to my waist and I put my hands on his chest to stop him from pulling me closer.
"Ryan I-"
"No, I want you to. I need you to. I don't think I can do it by myself." He said and I swallowed.
I knew he needed to do it, but I didn't know if I could. It would be the first time he'd seen his Mum in years, and i'd be there with him.
"I don't want to be in the way. You guys haven't seen each other in years and i'm sure she wants to see you by yourself."
"No. I've wanted to see her for years but when she suggested it I didn't know if I could bring myself too. Then I saw the picture of you and me on my draws and I calmed down. I need you to go with me. I told her that and she said it was fine." He said and I sighed.
"Okay." I whispered. He smiled at me.
"She said she has a boyfriend and that he'd be there. That's what put me off going. I don't know how to feel about it." He said and I hugged him.
"You'll work it out. It must be a good thing, if she's gotten better, maybe he helped." I tried to comfort him but I knew it wouldn't work very well. The only way he'd know how he felt about it would be to meet the guy she was dating.
"I hope so." He said and hugged me back. He pulled away and dragged me to the sofa. We sat down and he turned the TV on. His arm was wrapped around my shoulders and I cuddled into him. He put on a show and we watched in silence for a few hours.
Those moments were the ones that made me the happiest.
