Chapter 4
(Y/N) didn't mind the train, however what she did mind was the racket. It made reading a book or listening to music on ear phones virtually impossible. So when she got to her new school she felt as though the chattering of the crowded corridors was a calming sound compared to the commotion of the train.
Plus the fact for once she was actually looking forward to school that day, despite the fact the past few days had been more than nerve racking, she now had a potential friend. The train had been early that day luckily so she had plenty of time to try and find Ned before lessons began.
Making it to school he wasn't at his friends locker, a peak in the library showed only MJ in there, but she eventually found him at another block of lockers. For some reason, trying to lift it up.
"What are you doing?"
Ned jumped slightly at the question taking a few steps away from the lockers trying his best to look casual.
"Oh umm n-nothing, just, I get curious about odd things. Like how heavy these lockers would be." he stuttered messing with his hands.
"Well... I'm no expert but I guess they're pretty heavy. You'd probably hurt yourself if you kept trying."
He silently sighed in relief that she had bought his excuse. At least it hadn't been sexual this time.
"Yeah I know, we can only dream of having the same strength as Spiderman."
Suddenly (Y/N)'s face lit up.
"Oh yeah! You're never going to believe what happened last night! I met Spiderman!"
"What!? You saw Spiderman!?" Ned gasped.
And he'd gotten no text off Peter telling him this. He'd be sure to text or ring him later.
"Yeah I sure did! And he was so cool! My dog ran out into the road and he didn't hesitate to save him and he was also so polite. And he sounded a lot different than I thought, as though he were about our age." she quickly explained, happy to have someone other than her parents to share her experience with.
"Well he is actually."
"What!? How do you know that!?"
"Oh well u-um I don't know him personally but my friend Peter does."
"The friend you mentioned yesterday?" she remembered.
"Yeah, he's really good friends with Spiderman."
Well, Ned technically wasn't lying.
"That's so cool! So what are both of them like!?"
"Well like I said I don't know Spiderman all that well, but my friend Pete? He's fantastic, really smart and a brilliant friend."
"Sounds like you look up to him."
"I guess I do, yeah. I mean he's funny, loyal..." Ned trailed off looking at his phone which had just beeped "And he's washing up soak suds."
"What?"
"I just got a text off him and he says he wont be in today because his Aunt May's washing machine is leaking all over the floor and he needs to help her mop it all off, and take the broken machine to the scrap yard."
"That's a shame. I was rather hoping I could meet him today with how nicely you've been talking about him."
"Well I'm more than happy to fill in Parker's place today." MJ appeared out of no where.
"Seriously do you keep popping out of wormholes?" Ned questioned.
"Hi MJ." (Y/N) smiled.
"Wait you two know each other?"
"Yep, when I started Monday we met in the library and have been talking about books we've read."
At this new information Ned spitefully mouthed the word 'Hades' at MJ. Whom of which was more than happy with her new title. Meanwhile...
"Peter bring another mop!"
"Okay! Okay! I'm bringing it!"
Not that Pete didn't love his Aunt, but it sucked when he was only just outside the door and she started screaming for his help, to run back inside and slip on the swimming pool on the kitchen floor. Curtsy of the faulty washing machine. As they rapidly tried to contain the new leisure center the phone started to ring.
"Pete quickly answer that and let them know we're busy."
Doing as his Aunt said answering the phone he was surprised however when it was good old, yet still handsome, Tony Stark.
"What's up kid? How are you? You weren't answering your mobile."
"Sorry Mr Stark I can't talk I'm controlling a leaking washing machine."
"Yeah I know, that's what I wanted to talk to you about."
"Sorry gotta go!" with that Peter hung up and resumed his moping.
"Wow, my big brave boy refusing a call from the big Tony Stark."
"Well you need me more right now."
But Peter was already wondering how Tony knew his washing machine had broken. As he knows he wouldn't have called as he knows he would have been at school at that point.
"Awww my cute little Tiger. But I'm sorry to kept you from school."
"Don't worry about me, I can always borrow Ned's notes."
"Oh but I do worry about you my little Tiger."
Peter knew it was May's permanent employment to worry about him, which is why he took extra special care to make sure she didn't found out he was Spiderman. Excusing that one time she saw him in 'cos-play'.
"Ahh geez, first I have to stash my web fluid and then the washing machine packs in. What's going to be the next inconvenience?"
"By the way how did clean up go today?"
It was now late evening, night even, Peter had been able to sneak away as May took the old washing machine to the scrap yard, and had taken the chance to ring Ned and catch up on the events he missed that day. Only to find out he and MJ had spent to whole day getting to know (Y/N).
"The cleaning wasn't the problem, getting the washing machine to the scrap yard was. And then when we got back Mr Stark had sent us a replacement washing machine, along with a dishwasher and tumble dryer. So we had to spend the rest of the day plugging and rearranging the kitchen."
"That was nice of him."
"Yeah it was, but still weird he keeps such a close eye on me. He called me as we were mopping up the water saying he knew the machine was busted."
"Hey do you think Mr Stark knows about (Y/N)?"
"What? Of course not! I've specifically told him not to bother any of my friends. He wanted to get back ground information and criminal records on you and MJ at one point. But it still sucks I haven't been able to talk to her properly yet."
"Well technically you already have."
"Yeah but that's Spiderman, not Peter Parker."
"Also did I forget to tell you? We traded numbers today."
"What!? No you didn't tell me!" Spiderman exclaimed hearing the smug tone in Ned's voice.
"Me, (Y/N) and MJ talked at lunch and she seemed happy enough to exchange numbers."
Spiderman gave an annoyed grumble at his best friend.
"And don't worry, I've been putting plenty of good words in for you."
"Oh God what have you told her?"
"Just that-
Spiderman couldn't hear Ned as he heard a loud explosion coming from a distance away, looking in its direction he saw a smoke and ember glow, it was a fire.
"I've got to go!"
"Go get em Spiderman!"
With that line of encouragement Spidey hung up not wasting a second headed towards the fire. As he got closer the heat got all the more worse and soon saw that it wasn't just any old building that was on fire. But an Oscorp lab.
Next to Stark industries, Hammer Tech (before it was shut down) and Pym Tech, Oscorp was the leading developer in weapons and medical care. Spiderman knew all too well about the Oscorp tower, it was their main Manhattan laboratory. But why was it on fire?
"Karen is there anyone in there?" he asked immediately.
The building was all but lost, but he could save those inside. Hopefully.
"Lower levels are clear but there are five people on the two top levels."
"Alright I'm going to get them out!"
Shooting a web he took advantage of the weakened windows smashing through.
"Peter your suit is fire proof so don't worry. I'll inform you of when your smoke inhalation levels become critical."
He was in a lab area that was engulfed in the flames, but not hesitating he followed Karen's sharpened camera view, providing clear silhouette views of where all the scientists were. Running to the one closest it was a male in a singed lab coat, passed out, most likely from the smoke.
"Oh God..."
"Heartbeat detected in all civilians."
With time being the enemy Spiderman had to resort to simply attaching web and lowering the scientists down to the ground, where emergency services were already gathering at the ground. By the time he had dropped the second scientist they got the gist and were ready for it whilst they started to combat the fire.
As Spiderman saved the civilians however he caught sight of the experiments on the lab benches. They were all, horrifying. Weapons with many blades, a hover board which looked as though it had been inspired by The Vulture, whips that looked as though they were electrified along with many many bombs lined up in rows. What awful weapons had Oscorp been manufacturing? What appliances did these have in the real world?
All the while his nerves were on a cliffs edge. Once again risking his life and that of others, he had to work fast enough to save enough but had to take his time when lowering them to the ground. The heat was getting too much to bare, even with his suit. But Karen had told him there were five people trapped in the building.
Spiderman had only rescued four.
"Karen where's that last guy!?"
"One Level above. You also only have 180 seconds until all top five levels loose all integrity."
Not again, he thought terrified. At a high building with the innocent at risk. Spotting the door to the staircase he kicked the door down only to be met with an avalanche of smoke. Definitely the wrong idea. But ignoring his burning lungs he jumped up the stairs kicking into the upper level, but like the lower level it was an open lab area. And yet he couldn't see anyone.
"Where is the last one!?"
"Behind that door."
It was a metal door scorched, but easy enough for him to kick down. A more advance lab, if that was possible, was revealed. Stepping inside it seemed slightly more protected from the fire but only slightly, looking for the last civilian however Spiderman came across a computer screen, detailing blue prints for all weapons.
Rapidly scanning the words it turned out the weapons on the lower level were far more deadly than Spiderman had originally thought. With the Vulture like hover board having many weapons, the bombs being from smoke to acid and then the whips were taken from Vanco, the mad man who had attacked Mr Stark years ago.
Before Spiderman could stop himself his hands were dancing over the key pad deleting every blue print and file. He couldn't let weapons as terrible as this, inspired by murderess make it into every day life or war zones. He snapped back into reality, realizing just what he had done, when he heard a mans groan behind him.
Spinning around he saw the fifth and final scientist.
"Sir!?"
Running over to him Spiderman pulled his shoulder to see his face and he audibly gasped. The man in front of him was someone he had only met a handful of times through his son, and it had been years since he had even heard of him. Norman Osborn.
"30 seconds."
Snapping out of his daze Spiderman slung Norman over his shoulder making a dash for the window. Taking a leap of faith he smashed the glass with his feet falling through the frame, he caught himself with a web descending to the lower level, hearing the first five floors collapse in on themselves.
Making it the the ground with his shaky legs Spiderman was more than happy to give Norman over to the capable medics. Leaning on his knees he gasped for air when a paramedic came over to him.
"Hey are you alright Spiderman? Do you need a check over?"
"Karen?"
"Suit integrity maintained, all bodily functions normal. However you are dehydrated."
"No I'm okay thanks, deal with those guys, and tell the firefighters I got every one out of there."
"Alright I will do. Thanks Spiderman, you're amazing as usual." the paramedic patted him on the back.
Standing up straight Spidey gave a large sigh in relief. Wanting nothing more than to get home. Which is what he did. It was a little tricky due to exhaustion but eventually he got back to his flat and clumsily stumbled back into his room. And from the absent hum of the TV from the living room he could tell May wasn't home. However a quick check on his phone let him know she'd gone out for a drink with a friend.
Pulling off his mask he glanced in his near by mirror seeing his face was a mess. Going into the bathroom his washed his face glad for the cold water in comparison to the heat of the fire. And then he realized how sore his throat was from both the heat and the smoke. Although Karen reassured him he hadn't inhaled enough smoke to be problematic.
Making it back to his room he dropped down onto his bed not minding his slightly wet hair and liquid full stomach. Those diabolical blur prints refusing to leave his mind, that being said Peter would have to remember to make sure Karen destroyed any possible images she also recorded. He was just relieved that he'd been able to save the scientists, but why had they been there so late?
However he then remembered that rich scientists such as Tony don't have a concept of time and therefore worked until the dropped of fatigue. But Norman Osborn. Peter hadn't seen him in years.
His thoughts were interrupted though when a sound came from his laptop he had forgotten to turn off earlier. He'd gotten an email. Dragging himself to his desk he was curious as to who it could be. Besides the usual promo emails he had two. The first was from Liz.
Hi there Peter.
I'm okay I guess. But not brilliant. But it also means a lot you emailed, nice to know not everyone from our old school hasn't forgotten about me. And don't worry I haven't forgotten about you.
It goes with out saying that I miss my dad, but I'll be able to visit him soon. Hope you're doing well too. I'll email you again soon.
That was something at least. He was glad to hear that Liz was okay. But unfortunately it wasn't much comfort in the scene of things. He then turned his attention to the second email. And his blood ran cold reading the name of who it was from.
Harry Osborne
