Chapter 5
A hospital is never quiet, but tonight things were particularly hard for the staff members with the casualties from the Oscorp tower fire being brought in. Hastily they were unloaded from the backs of ambulances and taken through to the emergency room.
Amidst all the commotion a young man in a tailored suit but messed hair came bounding down the corridors desperately searching for his father. Norman Osborn. Only to wish he hadn't when he saw him laid there covered in smoke, his lab coat singed and torn.
"Dad!? Dad!? Can you hear me!?" Harry cried desperately clinging to his hand.
"Sir please back away we are doing everything we can for him!" a nurse tried to usher him away.
"Dad!? Please just say something!" Harry continued to beg.
Norman started to mumble something in response to his son.
"What was that dad!? What are you trying to say!?" he leaned closer.
"Sp... Spiderman..."
But Harry barely caught his dads whisper before the nurse finally succeeded in pushing him away, long enough to wheel his father into a treatment room. All Harry could do was stand there, until another member of staff snapped at him to move out of the way, leaving him to do nothing other than take a seat on the hard plastic chairs and wait.
As Harry sat there tapping his phone in his hands, desperate to be occupied by something, he wished and prayed his dad would make it. But he had very little hope from the expressions of the doctors. At a loss he stared at his phone as thought it would provide an answer. When a thought came to mind.
Opening his Gmail account he started to type, contacting the only other person he could oddly think about at this moment. The only other person who had treated him as a human being, and not just as the next face of Oscorp. Peter Parker.
Hi Peter,
Sorry that this is out the blue, heck this probably isn't even the right email anymore, but I just wanted to try and reach you. I'm going through something rough right now, my dads in hospital and as far as I am aware is in critical condition. It would be great if I could have someone to talk to. Sorry to be a bother.
Harry Osborn
It had been the third time that morning that Peter had read the email on his phone. His mind felt ever so slightly numb and drowned out the sounds of the train. He needed to talk to Ned. He needed to talk to Happy. He needed to talk to Harry. After all these years Harry had finally contacted him, but it was far from a happy event.
As he headed into school he spotted Ned, and when he saw him too he was about to give him his usual greeting when Peter lightly grabbed him by the arm leading him to somewhere private. Silencing Ned and making him start to worry. A word wasn't said until they reached the back of the empty food court.
"What's the matter?" Ned asked immediately already worried.
"The Oscorp fire."
"What about it?"
"I was there."
"You were there last night!?"
"Of course I was, where else would I have been?"
"Somewhere that wasn't as dangerous."
Peter gave him a look that basically communicated, he couldn't have gotten out of that situation even if he wanted to.
"So what happened?"
"I heard a loud explosion and when I got over there it was the Oscorp tower, on fire. I went inside and got all the scientists out, but... there was something else."
"What? What else happened?"
"In the lab, where I saved the scientists, there were weapons. Awful weapons. And then when I got to the upper floor I found blue prints for them all, and they all said how the weapons were far more deadly than they appeared. Like chemical warfare and poisoned blades."
"Oh my God..."
"And then before I knew it I had deleted all the blue prints. And as far as I know all the weapons were destroyed in the fire. But I don't know if any of the designs were sent else where. Either way, I don't think those weapons should be out there. They were like the ones the Vulture had."
"Whoa."
"I then found the last guy who was in there. And it was Norman Osborn."
"Norman Osborn?"
"Yeah. And then when I got home. I got this email."
"An email? From who?"
"Harry Osborn." Ned's eyes were getting bigger by the second "We've known each other since kindergarten. For a long time he was the only friend I had, making sure I didn't get bullied. And then his father sent him away to boarding school when he was 10. We kept in contact for while but then things went quiet. Until now."
"So what was he emailing you about?"
Trusting Ned Peter handed him his phone with the loaded email, quickly reading it along with Peter's reply Ned didn't have much of an answer to offer.
Hi Harry,
You're not a bother at all and I'm happy to talk. And obviously this is still the right email. Do you want to meet up or something? I hope your dad gets better soon.
Peter Parker
"So?" Ned started at a loss "So what are you going to do? And is there anything I can do?"
"Just listening to me ramble is great. And after school I'm going to go see Happy. Hopefully he'll be able to help. You know, make sure that none of the designs survived. But if that happens that could ruin Oscorp, and then Harry and his dad would suffer. And maybe his dad would be in a better state if I had saved him earlier."
"Hey come on Pete, you tried your best. And you did the right thing making sure those weapons don't get used on good people. I think the best thing you can do now is speak to Happy and keep emailing Harry."
"Yeah, I guess so."
The bell then signaled for first period.
"Come on." Ned smiled slinging an arm on Peter's shoulders "I bet Happy will be impressed and after you've seen him how about we carry on building the Millennium Falcon?"
For the first time that morning Peter cracked a smile.
"Yeah, sounds like a plan."
Making it to class it was English class the teacher wasn't in leaving a substitute, meaning that the class was left with a task and the substitute couldn't control the hectic students. And Peter and Ned had very little clue what to do, therefore they asked MJ for help. Leading the three and (Y/N) to sit at a desk together.
"Wow you two really suck at English." MJ teased.
"Well I prefer science." Peter grumbled.
"Yeah me and Pete are better at chemistry and web design." Ned smirked.
Peter had to stifle a chuckle at Ned's secret comment.
"Oh by the way, about time you two said hello. This is (Y/N) (L/N)." MJ introduced her.
"Nice to meet you." she smiled.
"Y-yeah, nice to meet you too." Peter managed a weak smile.
"That's not much of an impression Parker, what's happened to your cheery attitude?" MJ challenged.
"Oh well um..."
"It's just been the anniversary of his Uncle Ben's death."
The whole table turned to face Ned who had provided the last comment. And Peter was stunned, Ned had remembered. It was true, just the other week he and May had gone to Uncle Ben's grave. May had been glum and down the entire day, but the next she was back to her bubbly self.
Of course Peter had been worried about her, but he had to realize it was just her way of getting on with it. In fact the washing machine incident was probably a good distraction.
"Don't worry I understand, I've been through something similar." (Y/N) gently smiled, leaving her comment at that not wishing to make her back story the topic of conversation.
With that comment they all just went back to work, respectively not delving into their friends personal lives. Peter giving a thankful nod to Ned. And he would have been over the moon, glad to finally meet the new student. Had it not been for the burning guilt in his chest.

"So did you have a good day at school sweet heart?"
Kicking her flat door shut (Y/N) saw her dad in the kitchen, and her Yorkie, ironically called Chewy, short for Chewbaka, jumped up at her glad she was home.
"It was okay, I made another friend."
"Really who?" her dad asked coming out of the kitchen into the sitting room.
"His names Peter Parker, he and Ned are really good friends. And then there's my buddy bookworm MJ."
"Look at my big brave girl making three friends in her first week." he ruffled her hair.
"By the way your dad will be home soon, texted and said he's being let out a little early today."
"Cool!"
What (Y/N) had meant when she said she understood Peter was that she too had lost family members. Her parents to be exact. And was adopted by her two dads at a young age. Maurice and Silas. But they were far from camp. Maurice was a chef and Silas a social worker. But Silas had had to work late last night, so (Y/N) was happy to hear he'd be coming home early.
They were a happy family of four, two dads, one daughter, and then one yappy Yorkie dog. Sure enough Silas came home an hour later and they all sat down to dinner, Chewy under the table hoping for any food to fall.
"So how was school toady (Y/N)?" Silas asked.
"It was great I made another friend. That and everyone was talking about the Oscorp fire."
"Oh yeah the fire, I drove past that last night. That's why I was so late home."
"You drove past that?"
"Mmm hmm, traffic was manic because they had to obviously close off the road. I didn't get home until late and by that time you were in bed. I didn't want to wake you up because I didn't want to worry you."
"But did you hear? Apparently Oscorp is in a bad way now as they lost a lot of their work." Maurice added.
"What do you mean?" (Y/N) wondered.
"Well according to the news the tower was mainly burnt, but the top labs were completely destroyed along with a lot of their work."
"But its Oscorp, I'm sure they've got enough resources to rebuild their work and the tower."
"Yeah, I'm sure they'll figure it all out."

Thank for all the glorious comments!
