Midnight Occurences

It turned out the threat of being expelled was no threat at all. The kid who came last, Midoriya wasn't expelled. Percy had no reason to panic in the first place.

The first day had gone by so quickly, Percy almost couldn't believe it was already over. It was perhaps the most exciting day of school he'd had in a long time- one that didn't involve monsters or ridiculous plans to kill or kidnap him.

"I'm ready to go." Percy said to Todoroki who was waiting patiently, leaning against the exit door.

Once the two travelled home, Percy went to his assigned room and flopped on the sleeping mat. He wasn't exactly tired- well, maybe a little, but he was still trying to wrap his head around everything.

He'd travelled to a completely different world, one where everybody had powers known as quirks, taken a formerly possessed daughter of Nike named Holly along with him, regressed to age fifteen and been shoved into a hero training school.

He closed his eyes and sighed.

Percy was sure that the responsibility was his to get both him and Holly back home, his only problem was he had no idea how to accomplish that.

He needed to warn the Camp about Nyx. It wasn't long after the battle against Gaia, and already another greater being was plotting against them. A primordial at that.

Percy's head snapped up when he heard the bedroom door slide open. In the entranceway stood Holly. She was dressed in her Japanese school uniform. It was quite different from those that they'd wear back where they're from.

"I just got back from school." She said, slightly out of breath. Clearly Holly had rushed here after school had ended. "And I may or may not have gotten lost on the way back."

"Fail." Percy sniggered.

"Shut up. Not everybody has a guide like you do. All I got was a crappy old map." She settled down on the futon beside Percy, near his feet. "You stink."

"Thanks. I've been running around all day." Percy wiggles his toes in her face and she scowled, pushing them away.

"If you're gonna do that I'll leave." She stated. Percy settled down. It was nice to have company. Sometimes the silence was scary. "Why've you been running around?"

"Quirk testing or something. We had to do a whole lot of tests using our quirks. That was pretty much all we did. The teacher's a bit of a weirdo though. He literally showed up to class in a sleeping bag."

Holly giggled at that. "My teacher isn't bad. But making friends isn't easy. I don't know anything about where we are. Not to mention given the local school, everybody knows each other from elementary. I'm just the weird transfer student from nowhere." Her face had become solemn.

"Thing will get better. I promise you that. But if you ever need me to come down, I will." He said seriously. Perhaps he shouldn't be promising that things would get better. Who knows if they'd ever make it home?

Percy was aware that he was dreaming. He stood just outside a cabin surrounded by blooming trees. Cherry blossoms. He'd seen plenty of them around Japan.

His senses were dull to nonexistent. It was weird not being able to smell anything. Maybe that's because everything was artificial.

The place didn't give him any bad vibes, in fact, it filled him with warmth and a sense of longing for home. Percy entered the cabin.

It was Japanese style, not entirely different  to the place he currently living in. In the center of the room on a tatami mat was a girl in a plain kimono. A small fire rested in her palms, casting a warm orange glow across her face. She looked up when he entered.

"Percy." She said softly. Percy knew who it was instantly.

"Lady Hestia." He bowed before her.

"Rise, young hero. Come join me." She said, her eyes smiling, features soft.

Percy tentatively sat on the mat across from her. "I'm dreaming, aren't I?"

"Yes. I need to tell you about the world you presently reside in." Percy jolted. She knew that?

Of course she knew that. He recalled the flames that had engulfed them inside the black. It must have been Hestia.

"Can you tell me how to get back?" Percy asked hopefully. He knew the gods' tendencies to give him answers in riddles, or nothing at all, so his hopes quickly dropped. Every more so when she told him she couldn't.

"But I can give you a few tips. I cannot interfere any more than that. Even as much as this is pushing it." From the flames burst forth a backpack. Percy blinked at it as she handed it to him. "Don't open it here. It should be of some use to you, but use it wisely. Nyx tried to send you to a place far worse to get rid of you. You were interfering too much. I stepped in and tried my best, but I couldn't send you back, merely alter your course."

Percy nodded, gripping the bag tightly. He would take anything he could get.

"Our time is running out. I'm afraid I must go. Find allies here. Protect those around you. Nyx will be searching for you. She has yet to find where I sent you." Already Hestia's voice was fading, becoming harder and harder to hear with each word. Her body began to fade. "The longer we talk the easier it is for her to find-" and everything was gone.

Percy jolted upright, sweat clung to his skin. In his arms was the backpack Hestia had handed him. He was about to open it when a whimper that bordered on a scream filled the air.

Remembering Hestia's warning about Nyx hunting them down, Percy shot out of bed and down the hallway to Holly's room, where he had heard the noise.

There was already the man of the house at the scene, Endeavour. Todoroki was rounding the corner. Percy was relieved to discover she was only having a nightmare. Nobody was under attack.

"I'm sorry for waking you. I'll take care of her." Percy said, trying to be polite as he pushed through the doorway.

Endeavour grunted. "Make her shut up quickly then." And with that he turned and marched back towards his bedroom.

Todoroki stayed behind, watching from the doorway as Percy knelt beside Holly, who was tossing and turning in her sleep, clearly distressed.

Percy tapped her shoulder lightly, testing how responsive she was. It did nothing so he shook her gently. Slowly, with some time, Percy managed to ease her out of it without giving her too much of a fright.

"You good?" He asked quietly. He didn't want to cause any more trouble for their hosts. He was well aware Todoroki stood in the doorway still so he couldn't ask what the nightmare was about. Two guesses that it was about their world.

Holly clung to Percy and started crying. She hadn't noticed Todoroki. Her heart pounded in her chest, sweat driving down her skin, breath ragged.

Percy made comforting noises, rubbing circles on her back like he'd done so many times for Annabeth when she had a nightmare.

"Talk to me about it in the morning okay?" He mumbled once she had calmed. She nodded her head before laying down back in bed.

Percy stood and exited. He knew the both of them would take a while to go back to sleep.

"Does that normally happen?" Todoroki asked.

"More than you'd think."

"What triggers it?" He had his fair share of past troubles that caused nightmares.

"Nothing you'd know about." Percy said, ending the conversation when he entered his bedroom and closed the door behind him. He couldn't afford Todoroki finding out about them. Not yet anyway.

Hestia's hint still lingered in the front of his mind.

Find allies here.

AHHHH I'M SORRY! I was supposed to update yesterday. Man am I seriously bad at meeting deadlines. It's something I desperately need to work on. But hey, the update is here. I wanted to update sooner but I was working all day and spent yesterday sleeping due to a sleepover where we pulled an all-nighter.

Peace,
