Saturday came quickly with a pile of homework just waiting to be done. I fell on my bed and grabbed my Algebra homework to start on. Melanie sat at my vanity doing her toenail while listening to a song on her MP3 player.

My door pinched open a little and I saw Jenny come in and sit down on the chair in the corner of my room. Her eyes were dark red and she had tears streaming down her face, I looked at her and saw Melanie take out her ear buds and drop the nail polish.

"Jenny, what's wrong?" She asked.

"Mom just got a letter front he bank... their foreclosing the house in two weeks!"

I felt like someone had grabbed the breath out of me and punched me hard in the gut. Losing the house? No way!!

Melanie stood up and sat by Jenny trying to comfort her. I ran out of my room and up the stairs to where Megs room was.

When I got to the door I cracked it open." Have you heard about the house?" I asked as I closed the door.

"Yes. Mom's working an extra shift tonight so everyone needs to pitch in. Plus Hadley has dance and Jenny has volleyball. Which leaves the cooking and cleaning up to us two."

Jenny and Meg had always been the more mature ones in the house I was always just a little girl letting them take on all the chores and everything.

"It's time to grow up Ashley. This is the perfect time." Meg said as she handed me a Bible.

I glanced at it and then gave it back to her. "Thanks but no." She sighed and walked out the door down the stairs.

Mom had already left for work when we got down there.

"I'll drive Jenny and Hadley. You get making supper. The rice is in the cupboard along with some cucumbers, you could make a salad." With that being said she walked out the door with Jenny and Hadley on her heels.

Melanie stood there looking at me and then she smiled at me." I'll help, I'll start cleaning while you start cooking. It could be like a fun game! See who gets done first!"

I smiled at her, " oh it's on!"

By the time Meg got home we had the table set and dinner served, Melanie had been so kind as to clean the living room and kitchen and the parlor. For supper we had Rice and cucumber salad and somehow Melanie got her mom to bring her some potatoes and she had whipped up some mashed potatoes.

I grabbed a spoon and started to eat when Hadley said. "May I say the blessing?"

Meg nodded and Hadley began her prayer.

"Dear Lord Jesus please be with mommy as she has to work at the diner tonight. And please be with Meg and her school work as the year is almost over and she really wants to go to Pensacola Christian College, please be with Jenny and her volleyball game on Thursday, please be with me and my ballet stretches that always hurt my legs. Oh and Lord? Please be with Ashley and let her see how much you love her. Amen."
