Two years after Carmellita and I met, I was working at the local gas station.

It had been a busy day so I didn't look up as I heard the door open. I did look up though when someone walked up to the counter after a while. I was very surprised to see Carmellita standing there. After high school, I had  lost touch with her.

No words were exchanged. She didn't even seem to notice me.

That was the last I heard from her until a few months later.
