CHAPTER 7: The friend request
"Okay mom, I promise I'll take care. Bye for now." I said through the cell phone.
"Okay sweetie. Bye, love you." mom spoke in her motherly tone that can make you happy in your darkest day.
"Love you too."
I placed my phone on the bedside table when a soft knock interrupted me. I decided to put my phone on charging but then the knocking went heavy, like somebody was trying to break down my door.
I rushed to the door and opened it, only to discover a tired Dillan who was rubbing his eyes.
"What happened?" I asked, looking at my poor friend to tell me the reason for his shabby appearance.
"I've a hangover." he murmured.
Just to take the advantage of the moment and irritate Dillan, I began to sing
"He's got a hangover.
He have been drinking too much for sure.
He's got a hangover,
He got an empty cup
Pour hi-"
Before I could finish my fabulous singing, Dillan covered my mouth with his big palm and made a moaning sound for pain.
"Shut up, you sing like a frog." he groaned.
"What?" I gasped dramatically and continued,"I sing like a nightingale. You just don't have the ears to acknowledge my talent."
"Nightingale my ass." he said, dragging himself toward the small kitchen.
"But I don't see any nightingale as your ass." I said innocently, trying to make him more irritated. It's not like he's sick, he drank too much. He should learn control his limit and irritating him will definitely do that.
Even though he completely ignored my last kick ass comeback, I didn't lose hope.
He landed his head on the counter and groaned again. I felt bad for my poor, little friend so I offered him some caffeine to subtle his hangover.
"Thank you." he spoke, taking the mug of coffee from my hand. I sat next to him, patted his back and spoke, “Good job with getting yourself a headache kid."
"Yeah yeah, make fun of me." he muttered. “Just because you have a life like a kid, doesn't mean I'll behave like that as well."
I was confused by his statement. What was he trying to say?
"I'm not a little kid." I pouted.
His eyes glowed with amusement when he turn to me and said, “Come on, even a sixth grader have a better social and love life than you."
I gasped. Punching his arm, I spoke,"I do not."
"Oh you do." he chuckled. Ah, someone's getting better with their headache by insulting me.
"Care to explain how?" I turned to him and waited for him to explain his false statement.
"My pleasure ma'am." he teased. “So how many boyfriends did you have? How many friends do you have?"
I pressed my lips in a tight line and sat in silence while my mind was screaming out loud, “HE’S RIGHT!"
Dang it!
Dillan chuckled at my response to him and ruffled my hair,"I guess you know now."
I made a gagging face at him and took a sip from my mug as well.
"I'll see you later. I better get some more sleep so that I'll be fine to go to college. Bye Jojo and thanks for the coffee." he said and left my apartment.
Am I really like he described me to be?
Nah, I should not get into his trap. He was just trying to get a better source of entertainment by making fun of me.
I came to my room after locking the main door and grabbed my laptop from the desk. Because I had nothing else to do on an off day from college, I decided to check out my mails. The Windows screen appeared; I clicked on the Google Chrome and went to yahoo mails. There were a few mails from the Uni, some from different advertising companies and the others were the notification messages from different sites. That reminds me, I haven't been to my Facebook account from almost a week, better check out what I missed.
I logged into Facebook when my account appeared. There were a few notifications about someone commenting on the pictures and asking about how my college life's going. After repling to all of them, I went to Jess' and Blair's accounts and saw that Blair was quite active whereas Jess was like me, absent from the world. Busy girl.
Then I came across all the notifications about friend request when a particular message grabbed my attention...
Ian Williams has sent you a friend request
Ian as the guy I met in the party? I went to his profile to confirm my doubt and saw his profile picture in which he was standing in the middle of the football ground with a football in his hands and wearing the Uni's jersey. He's the same Ian from the party.
What should I do? Accept or decline? After thinking for a good time, I clicked on the 'Accept' option.
What's the harm in making new friends right?
To get to know better about him, I went to his profile again. It was filled with pictures of the whole football team and posts about them. There were pictures of Ian, Ryan, Ashton and the whole football team. I saw the comments but none of them were from Ryan, even though he was tagged in the pictures.
From the link, I went to Ryan's account. I know, I'm being a little stalk-ish but I am just checking what he has been doing. That's all, a girl's got to know what she wants to.
I was still amazed whenever I recall what he said that night. How could he say that it wasn't what it looked like? I saw him pressed to the girl. Though his back was to me, I knew they were kissing. What else could have they been doing? Playing a 'let's press each other' game? No right?
I was quite shocked to discover that he has rarely been online or have posted anything from around eight or nine months, which is quite near when we broke up. Nothing was changed since the last time I checked his account, not even his relationship status.

The next day when I went to Uni, I saw Kacie jumping her way to me. I chuckled to myself at her chirpiness and waited for the birdy to come to me.
"Hola J." she chirped.
"Hey Kay." I said in a mocking tone.
"Wow, that rhymed. You can call me Kay, I like it." she informed. “So, decided what you're going to take as the extra club?"
I nodded my head proudly. After thinking for quite a while, I knew what I am going to take.
"Which one?" she asked, while we were walking to the next class from the stairs.
"The art club. I guess photography comes under that." I told Kacie.
She clapped her hands in exaggeration and spoke, “That’s very good J. But do you know anything about it?"
"Yeah I do. My mom's a photographer." I said.
"Wow, then she must take lots of beautiful photos of you." she pouted. I chuckled at her and stated, “Don’t worry, she's a nature specialise."
"But still. She must know how to take awesome pics. You lucky bitch." I was taken aback by Kacie's frank behaviour and choice of words but then I remembered, she talks like that with everyone.
After my last class Organizational behaviour ended, I rushed to the Art club. Dillan was not with me as he wanted to take in the football team and Kacie and May were in different clubs.
I entered the enormous room with many students sitting inside and gasped at how beautiful it looked. With numerous pictures hanging on the lengthy walls, the room looked well settled. There were many photographs and drawing pallets everywhere but in an organized manner.
My eyes went on the tall, petite lady, who I assume was the instructor of this club, and I walked to her to talk about joining the group.
"Excuse me ma'am." I said, making the lady who was facing the other side to turn to me. I got to admit that she was really beautiful with soft brown hair and warm brown eyes. Even her dressing sense was quite impressive. She seemed to be from some other country as her features were quite exotic.
"Yes?" she spoke politely.
"I wanted to join this club so what do I have to do for that?" I asked.
She smiled at me and motioned me to walk to her desk, “There’s nothing specific to do dear. As it's an artistic club, you just have to fill up what you want to take and we're ready to go."
"Alright. Thanks." I smiled. “Is the club having a meeting today?"
"No. You're a freshman right?" she asked.
I nodded and she continued,"Yeah, so for the freshmen, the classes for the club will start from day after tomorrow. The students sitting here are from the other higher years."
"Okay, thank you Miss..."
"Ardore." she smiled and took a paper from her desk and handed it to me, “Fill it and then give it to the next time you come."
"Sure Miss Ardore." I nodded to indicate my departure.
I turned my heels and was ready to walk out to my apartment when I saw Ryan sitting in the back of the room, focusing on his canvas, probably sketching something.
He's in the club as well?
Shit!
