Chapter 2🌻

Derinsola's POV

I tapped my fingers lightly on the glass cup as different thoughts swarmed in my head.

Deborah was getting married next week and I still hadn't seen her since she had given me her wedding invitation, two months ago.

I was so furious and hurt at the same time.

I couldn't believe she could drop such a bombshell on me like that without even batting an eyelid.

We spoke almost everyday since she travelled abroad to manage her business.

I couldn't understand.

Did I do something wrong?!

I started believing that she started reciprocating my feelings for her and I even prepared to confess my long-term feelings for her when she got back.

I was unaware of the fact that she was coming to see me with her freaking wedding invitation.

How could she have been in a relationship and couldn't even deem it fit to let me know about it?!

I was enraged.

I felt like crashing my fist into something.

I clenched unto the glass as my jaw tightened in rage.

Suddenly, I felt an arm wrap itself around my neck as painless slaps accompanied it.

“Right, bro?!” I heard the voice of Kola as I felt myself come back to reality.

I looked around, confused at what he was asking me.

Right what?!

I hadn't been listening and I knew Kola was aware of this fact.

I watched as the three pair of eyes were fixated on me, expecting me to reply.

“Uhrm, I didn't quite get that.” I told Kola as he bursted out laughing, slapping his hands against my back as I tightened my lips at this irritating action.

What was with this dude and beating someone?!

It's like his hands couldn't just sit in a spot for just one minute.

He had to slap something.

“See?! He is still depressed. She robbed him of five fucking million” Kola told them as I frowned at his words.

I wasn't exactly proud of being scammed by a girl.

He knew that but he didn't care. He like the fact that he had an interesting topic to discuss about.

They all laughed out as they shook their heads at me.

It has been two freaking months and there were no traces of this lady or my money.

It was gone and I had accepted that fact.

I was in Nigeria. I was prone to being scammed sooner or later.

But would I call it a scam?!

I had drunkenly transfered all my money to her.

But I swear, if I laid my hands on that lady, I would strangle her with my bare hands.

I had to work three times as harder to get back that money and I had gotten an earful from my mother.

Let's not forget the amount of time, I had been laughed at for stupidly dashing out all my money to a random foreign girl with beautiful hair.

I zoned out of their conversation again as my mind just floated around, thinking of my life in general.

My life wasn't exactly an adventure.

I was the random son of a multi-billionaire, who was going to take over the family business soon.

No criteria or conditions.

My parents never disturbed me to get married because they knew I had loved Deborah since forever.

Infact they wanted us to be together but now she was getting married, the least they could do is support me.

“So, how far Deborah's wedding?!” I heard Clement ask from opposite me as his eyes studied me with rapt attention.

They all knew I like Deborah. I never really told them but they said they realised because “it was obvious”.

I shrugged, taking another sip of the glass.

I was still on my first glass. I wasn't ever going to get drunk anytime soon.

I had been thought a lesson.

So, I might as well brace myself up and get over Deborah as soon as possible.

But it didn't feel possible.

I have loved her for as long as I can remember.

“Guy, sorry o! You must have been shocked” Peter, another of my friends said to me pitifully.

Stop,please.

They made me feel pathetic.

And this made me more annoyed.

“But that girl sha, she wicked o. Because I am so sure she knows you like her” Clement said again as he shook his head but when I looked closely at him, he was holding back a smile.

It was funny to him!

He found this shit funny.

It should be. Usually, when we gathered I was always rambling about Deborah.

Asking for advise on Deborah.

If she didn't respond for a week, I would call them asking them what it meant.

Fuck!!

Now thinking about how I had acted in the past, I felt pitiful.

I felt like an idiot.

I was asking for advise from them when she was having dates and good times with her boyfriend over there.

I couldn't even phantom why she kept this fact from me.

Instead, she fucking led me on.

“It's like she wanted to feel big. She liked the fact of you crying over her” Peter added as he huffed out, taking a sip from his glass too.

“It's okay bro. You will get over her. And she would regret it when she sees you with someone else” Kola told me, trying to encourage me as he yet again patted me on my back.

But this seemed somewhat comforting.

I felt like a little boy who was sulking over the fact that the supermarket had run out of chocolates.

It was humiliating.

And I sure as hell wasn't ready to relive this on her wedding.

I wasn't going to let people throw comforting looks my way and give me words of encouragement.

Because absolutely everyone had shipped Deborah and I together.

We were so close.

“Guyys! Guyyss!! Guysss!!” Peter called out as he yelled out loudly, looking at us like he had come up with something.

What was he so excited about, right now?!

“I just thought of something” He announced as we looked at him expectantly, waiting for him to proceed.

I was wondering what he was rambling about.

I wasn't interested right now.

My head was already clouded with thoughts.

“Deborah is getting married to another man, which is like national news.”Peter started as I sunk deeper into my chair shooting daggers at him with my eyes.

Gee, thanks for stating the obvious.

Sometimes, I hated these guys.

I should have just stayed home.

“Everyone thought she was going to end up with you, Derin” Peter continued as I felt my hand ball up into a fist.

One more word and I was going to swing a punch into his face.

“What if, you take another girl to the wedding as your date?!”Peter completed as Kola's face lit up at this idea as I immediately loosened my fist at his idea.

I wasn't ready for any drama.

I didn't care how people would react.

I didn't want to go that far.

“Woww!! Exactly. You won't look pitiful and Deborah would think you moved on too. Think about it!” Kola continued as they shook hands at their deceitful plan.

Wow!! Such comforting words.

I wasn't going to carry out this plan.

First, I hated lying. I didn't want to lie just to protect my ego.

Second, absolutely no one would believe I had moved on from Debbie so easily.

Like they said, it was obvious I loved her.

And lastly......

“Who would believe that?! It was so obvious that he loved Deborah. It still is.”Clement spoke out as I shot my eyes at him.

It was like he completely read my mind.

“He just has to make it believable, bro. It would be pathetic that he was dumped and he still attended his first love's wedding, alone. Ahhhhhhh!” Peter exclaimed as I felt his words pinch me in the face.

It did sound sad.

“You are right. And, with this plan, you can put that bitch Deborah in her place. She probably thinks you are sucking your thumbs and crying at the news of her getting married like a fucking cunt” Kola told me as his own words slapped me in the face.

He was right! I couldn't let Deborah believe that.

She hurt me and I wasn't going to stroke her ego by looking heartbroken on her wedding.

“He's right, bro. Think about this. Remember, you only have to pretend for a day. Your whole reputation is on the line.”Clement agreed as I felt myself actually consider their advice.

They were right. There were so many scandals of Deborah and I dating. If word gets out that she got married while I appeared at her wedding, still single.

It was going to hurt my image.

Nigerians knew how to turn stories around.

I wasn't going to let this happen.

“Fine.... ”I responded as they smiled at the fact that I finally gave in.

But the main question is...

“but where do I find a fake girlfriend?!” I asked, as we all pondered on this.

“It definitely has to be someone drop dead gorgeous, and have this madt figure” I described as they laughed.

If I wanted to this, I could as well do it right.

“Hmm, bad guyyy!!” Kola hailed as Clement joined in.

Foolish humans.

I laughed at their reaction as Peter seemed to be carried away by something.

“I think I've found your fake girlfriend” Peter announced with a smile as he bit his lips, squinting his eyes at something behind me.

What?! Who?!

I turned my head towards the direction he was staring at and I saw it.

I saw the lady that Peter was staring at.

“Dayumm! She's hot” I heard Clement comment as he was probably drooling too.

A feeling of familiarity washed over me as I stared at the figure, who was now backing me.

But as she snaked her arms around that of another man and turned towards my direction, I instantly recognised her.

Those features, they couldn't be mistaken for anyone else's.

“Dude!!” Kola called out as he was clearly seeing what I was seeing.

My eyes widened open as I imagined the large numbers, '419ʼ inscripted on her expensive dress.

It was the con-artist.

And I wasn't letting her get away with what she did, not today.
