Missing Her
*Louis’s POV*
I never felt like I belonged down here. There was always something missing that I couldn't find amongst the endless piles of seaweed. I searched everywhere for her, but I couldn't find her. She had disappeared without a trace after that one night, that one fling. I didn't want her to go. I was going to make her my queen, when my mother backed down that is. I think she stays on the throne to make sure I can't have it. She thinks I'll ruin the kingdom, but it's not my fault that Dad died so she had to rule on her own. My name is Louis, Prince Louis to be exact, and I'm a merman. I'm next in line to be king, but I can't until I find a queen. The problem is I already found one, I just lost her.
*Janna's POV*
I rushed about my house trying to get a lunch packed for my daughter.
"Lydia, it’s time for school come on!"I yelled up the stairs and tiny pattering of feet told me my four year old was on her way.
"Mummy, what did you pack me?"She asked standing on her tip toes to see over the counter into her pink, princess lunch bag. I handed it to her and kissed her forehead.
"Nothing you wouldn't like."I replied and she giggled. She looked more and more like her father every day. She had his eyes, his smile, his everything; she barely looked like me at all. We just shared the same dark brown wavy hair that we could both never seem to get to do what we wanted it to. She'd never met her Dad although she'd asked about him. I'd told her the truth, most of the truth, he was a good man and I had loved him. I still love him. I told her that he loved her very much, which I'm sure he would've. I felt so guilty keeping her from him and him from her when he was so close. I hadn't stepped foot in the ocean in five years because I didn't want him to find me. I won't let her go in either. Lydia loves water, but I won't let her in the ocean.
"The school bus is here!"Lydia said as I heard the horn blast. I brought her out and put her on the bus.
"Have a good day Janna."The driver said and Lydia waved out the window at me as she drove away. She could never know, but I knew I had to tell her. She wasn't normal because her father wasn't your average guy. He had fins and scales and he could breathe under water. He was a merman which meant I was raising a mermaid and I have no clue what I'm doing.
*Harry's POV*
"Come on Lou, just come look at it!"I yelled pressing my ear against the door.
"No!"I scowled and flicked my tail in frustration.
"I will break down this bloody door if you don't come out!"
"Go ahead; I can have it replaced on your pay check!"I jiggled the door knob.
"Unlock the door and we can talk about this."
"There's nothing to talk about!"I closed my eyes, let out a frustrated sigh and pressed my forehead against the wooden door.
"He's locked himself in again hasn't he?"Lottie asked dressed in her fine clothes. I would never get to wear anything like they do. The royal family was visiting a new hospital today and I was trying to get him to come out, but he won't.
"I'm afraid not my Princess."I said smiling down at her."He seems to be bent on getting me fired!"I heard him scoff. I noticed that Lottie's crown wasn't set properly.
"Come darling let me fix that."I said reaching over and moving it slightly."There, all better."
"Thanks Harry, tell coral for brains that Mum said he has to come to this event or she'll make him abdicate."I turned back towards the door as she swam away. I pressed my ear to the wood.
"Is she gone?"He asked.
"Yes."I felt the door unlock and I opened it to find him not dressed in the slightest."Come on now Lou, you know that you can't miss things like this."I pulled a jacket a shirt from his closet.
"I know, but I can't stop thinking about her."I sighed knowing exactly who he was talking about. The human girl he'd had a fling with while on a three month long vacation up on the surface. He loved her, he really did but once he revealed his secret to her she ran. He never even got to tell her he was a Prince, that she would be a Queen if she married him. It hurt him, she hurt him, but he still looked for her.
"It's been five years Lou; I think it's time to move on. There's plenty of pretty mergirls down here who would love to marry the next King."He groaned as I slipped the shirt up his arms.
"That's the problem Harry. They don't love me because I'm me. They love me because I'm the Prince, because of all this."He said waving his hands around gesturing to his room and the castle itself.
"You just have to give them a chance."I pinned the royal crest button on his lapel and helped him button his cuffs.
"I want to Harry. I really want to give them a chance. I just can't, she meant too much to me."I reached up to the top shelf and punched in the security code. I took the crown down out of the safe and he pushed it away.
"I think I'll go without that today, thank you Harry."He said and I raised my eyebrows.
"The Queen.."I began but he interrupted me.
"I know very well what the Queen wants. I said I'm going without it now put it back, that's an order."I carefully placed the crown back in the safe and shut the door. I pushed him out the door towards the waiting carriage that was carrying the family to the event. It was beautiful. Blue and green swirled in a lovely brocade pattern being pulled by our well trained sharks. Niall was driving, as he always did. He tipped his hat before clicking his tongue to get the sharks started. I waved as they departed and prayed, for once, Louis wouldn't cause his mother to come home with a pounding headache.
*Louis's POV*
"It's nice to see your face again Louis."Mum said. I didn't reply.
"Loulou, why are you so sad?"Phoebe asked leaning her head on my shoulder.
"I'm not sad, I just wasn't smiling."I said picking her head up off my shoulder and straightening her tiara.
"Why aren't you wearing your crown?"She asked and I saw Mum's lips purse angrily as she noticed the missing golden thing.
"I just forgot, that's all."
"I'll have to talk to Harold about that."Mum said.
"How many times do I have to tell you Mum his name is Harry, just Harry, not Harold. I told him not to take it down it’s not his fault. He was just following orders."Fire burned behind her eyes as she stared at me.
"Why do you do this to me Louis? You're going to push me into an early grave."Lottie glared at me, being second in line really sucked apparently. Especially when it happens to be me who's first. The carriage stopped and we stepped out. We did the same boring stuff, Mum cut the ribbon, we played with the children, I kissed a few babies and took some pictures with little girls that were enchanted with their Prince. It was actually kind of cute how they adored me.
"If you can't find anyone to marry I'll marry you."This one said shyly. She looked to be about seven.
"I'll keep that in mind, thank you."I said smiling at her. She giggled and her Mum mouthed a thank you. I signed the slip of seapaper she gave me 'To a princess of the kingdom, keep your chin up. Love Prince Louis'. I kissed her cheek and moved on. By the time we got back I was exhausted.
"Harry, could you tell Liam that I'd like something to eat. I'd tell him myself, but I just need to rest."
"I understand, be right up with it."Harry said. I went up to my room and collapsed into bed.
*Liam's POV*
"Niall, stop eating my food, it isn't meant for you. Shouldn't you be caring for the sharks or something?"I asked and he shook his head.
"They're all done so I'm with you."He said laughing. I scowled and Zayn grabbed him by the collar yanking him towards a stool in the corner.
"You may sit here Niall."He said pushing him down and handing him a platter of fruit and seaweed."You can eat this, OK?"Niall nodded leaning back against the wall and flicking his tail happily. I'm the head chef, but I think Niall might be better than me. He, however, wanted to work the stables more than cook so he came in here a lot. Zayn was my assistant, I guess. He really just did most of the heavy lifting. We cooked for the entire family, every party they had and everything they ever asked for food wise came from this kitchen. Harry swam down the stairs.
"Hi Niall, hi Liam, Zayn. The Prince is requesting something to eat."He said and I nodded.
"He always does this after outings so I have it right here."I said."I'll send it up."
"Good, he's been thinking about her again."I snapped my head towards him.
"Who, the human?"Zayn asked leaning forward on the table.
"Yes, the human what other girl does he obsess over?"Harry said laying his head down on the table."He wants to find her so badly."I sighed and drummed my fingers on the table.
"Maybe you need to help him find her and when he realizes that she's not interested then he'll move on."Niall said shoving more food into his mouth after he did so. Harry looked up, he smiled.
"Thank you Niall, you're a life saver!"He said swimming quickly up the stairs.
