Jungkook did many weird, unusual things that made him question himself. For example, when he was 5, he fought with a German Shepherd dog and when he was 11, he somehow managed to fill in the town swimming pool with orange juice and then invited all the kids over. Again, when he was 13, he impersonated a chicken for his school talent show. Then, at the age of 15, he intentionally pulled the fire alarm so that Yugyeom can go on a date with a senior high school student.
But now all of those seemed less weird and he questioned his sanity even more. Because now, he was sitting in the town cafe with Jieun's boyfriend. Jieun had earlier thrown a fit and bailed on the both of them. She even swore at Jungkook, breaking his heart to millions of pieces. But he knew deep down that she didn't mean any of it. It was all this Taehyung guy's fault that he had to come and ruin such an important moment. It was this Taehyung's fault that he couldn't confess. But for some reason, he couldn't be angry. Jungkook wanted to be angry and throw a few punches at the guy but he couldn't. He didn't know why.
"How many months?" He asked.
"Huh?" Taehyung let out distractedly, playing with bubbles and blowing more in the soda with his straw. Jungkook felt irritated that this person found the bubbles in his soda more interesting than the current situation.
He drew in a deep breathe. But he was happy. He finally felt pissed. He could throw a few punches now.
"How many months have you known Jieun?"
Taehyung snorted. "Months? That's an underestimation. I've known her for two years-"
Jungkook's face fell. His seven months of friendship was nothing compared to Taehyung's two years.
"-and her name isn't even Jieun."
Jungkook frowned. His mom always told him that he was gullible but he wasn't that dumb to actually believe that Jieun would lie about herself and come with a fake name. She lives with her parents, for fuck's sake. She has childhood pictures all over the house.
"Quit lying, okay," he said dangerously in a low voice, "what do you want from her? Tell me the truth."
Taehyung snickered as he sipped the soda through his straw. "I am telling the truth. She's not who she says she is."
"Oh yeah? Then who is she?"
"I don't know-" he replied with a shrug and Jungkook threw his arms up in the air in frustration.
"-but she isn't Jieun."
"I know what your problem is," Jungkook let out, "you're a delusional psycho who thinks you're dating Jieun but you're not."
"Wow," Taehyung scoffed amusedly, "I am not gonna criticize how creative you are but did you see her denying when I said I was her boyfriend?"
Jungkook opened his mouth to speak but he realized Taehyung was right. Jieun didn't disagree. She simply walked away and when he tried stopping her, she threw a tantrum and cursed at him.
"And also, when I knew her two years back, she was called Bae Joohyun."
"What?" Jungkook asked, burrowing his eyebrows.
"You heard me. Her name was Bae Joohyun."
"Wh-what? I don't believe you."
Taehyung didn't say anything as he pulled out his phone from his jacket pocket and showed Jungkook a picture.
It was a photo of Jieun from the school year book. She was bit chubby back then and had fringes. She had a semi bright smile. It was written "2015 batch. Class 10-B." But his eyes widened at the name written below her picture: Bae Joohyun.
Same face, same person, different name.
"I-it's not possible!"
"Are you kidding me? I just showed you a valid proof."
"You could have photoshopped it!"
Taehyung sighed tiredly. "You really think I have all the time for this? Wait, I have more proof."
Jungkook eyed him cautiously as he pulled out a book from his bag and placed it on the table.
Daegu Music Academy, Jungkook read. He didn't know Jieun could sing or -
"Now are you gonna believe me or are you gonna say i printed a whole fucking book?"
It was the same exact year book picture of Jieun. This time he didn't say anything as he just kept staring. Questions ran through his head and he wanted answers. He was sure Taehyung didn't know the full truth either because otherwise he wouldn't be here, seeking out for Jieun. Taehyung wanted to solve this as much as he wanted answers.
But why would Jieun do all this? Jieun wasn't even her real name. So who was she...
"This... this makes no sense," he whispered and Taehyung nodded.
"I know. Worst part is... I am still her boyfriend and she is doing this to me. She left without a hint and she's been being mean to me since day 1."
"What do you mean since day 1?"
"I came to Dongin two days ago and when I came to see her, she refused to see me and was being a total bitch. She still is acting like one."
"This so unlike her."
"That's what I told myself... Joohyun probably has a reason."
Jungkook 's heart hurt when Taehyung mentioned her as Joohyun. She didn't seem like any Joohyun. She looked and acted more like someone named Jieun. But he didn't know how Joohyun was and he was sure that Taehyung also felt weird when she was addressed as Jieun.
"H-how did you two meet?"
Taehyung smiled, as if recalling a nostalgic memory. Seeing him smile, Jungkook's heart made a leap and he had to control his tears from falling. But then the man in front of him let out a soft, sad chuckle.
"Doesn't matter anymore," he told, "I don't think she even cares."
"Don't say like th-"
"I think it's time I go," he interrupted, staring at his wristwatch.
Jungkook raised his eyebrow. "Where?"
"I don't know. I didn't know this town didn't have any guest houses."
Jungkook scratched his head. "Yeah, well... we don't have any tourists over. There's nothing here to see."
"Sounds boring."
And then Jungkook had the most stupidest idea huddling to his mind. He was stupid and there was no denying. No normal person would ever do that. But when was he ever normal?
"Um, I was thinking..."
"What?" Taehyung asked.
"... you see my parents went to Seoul to enrol my brother in university... and they won't be back till next week. The house is empty... you can stay with me."
Taehyung eyed him with suspicion, admiration and moreover, weirdly. He was expecting such a reaction. Which guy invites his crush's boyfriend to stay over at their place? No one. But there was no place in Dongin for Taehyung to spend the night. Jungkook knew he would regret later if he didn't offer an accommodation at least. He was upset about the Jieun or Joohyun case but he wasn't inhumane.
"So.. what do you say?" He asked Taehyung, awkwardly.
"How can I be sure you won't slit my throat in my sleep?" Taehyung fired back and he scoffed.
"If you're so suspicious about me, you can just stay in my brother's room. He has heat sensor installed, so if the alarm goes off you can know."
Taehyung laughed amusedly. "I was joking, man."
"So was I. Heat sensors are fucking expensive to afford."

"He's... who?" Yugyeom asked Jungkook, as they both looked at Taehyung from the kitchen, who was curled up on one of the sofas in the living room and watching Unpretty Rapstar .
"Jieun 's boyfriend-"
"What?!"
It was Saturday and it already has been three days since Taehyung has been staying at his place. Jieun still didn't speak to the either of them. Jungkook clearly saw the look of disappointment in Jieun 's face when he was showing Taehyung around his backyard. He even made effort to talk to her but every time she shut him off by walking away. He didn't know what was his mistake in all of this. He felt Jieun was treating him unfairly and this sparked an unspoken grudge. He was sure if he didn't get rid of it now by speaking to her, it would become dangerous and consume his mind. He would end up in the same situation as Taehyung.
"I kn-"
"Who the fuck lets their crush's boyfriend stay in their house?!"
Jungkook knew Yugyeom would be disappointed. His best friend never showed it but he knew Yugyeom always rooted for the both of them. So, seeing the possibility of Jieun going back with her boyfriend made Yugyeom scared. And Jungkook knew that. In fact, it felt like as if he was the one interfering between the two and it made him feel guilty. He felt sad for Taehyung mostly.
"I know. But Jieun and I aren't official..."
"But still-"
Soon Yugyeom's phone rang loudly and he answered it.
"Yes, babe?" He said in a sultry tone and Jungkook immediately heard shouts from the other end of the phone.
Seeing Yugyeom's bright face, he knew it was none other than Chaeyoung. Only she would be the one to scream at him for calling her any cringey nicknames.
"I know you secretly like it, babes," Yugyeom said with a wink but his smile was soon slapped off his face and replaced with a venomous look. "He said what?!"
Jungkook eyed his friend in worry, thinking what could have gone wrong. Lately, he had been so engrossed in his delusional world that he never got to talk with Yugyeom about the real and important things.
"I'm at Kook's place," he answered gruffly, "Sure, see you soon."
"Gyeom, what happened?" Jungkook asked.
Yugyeom frustratedly ran a hand through his hair.
"Daehun quit the choir," he replied.
"Wh- but why?"
"He's a douche, that's why. That asshole complained he should be getting enough spot light than the other choir players even though his position is in the back! Is he stupid or what?!"
Jungkook sighed. "That's Daehun. He always creates problems just before the show. You guys have only three days, right? For the choir performance?"
He nodded and groaned. "He was the only saxophonist in our school..."
"Maybe that's why he wanted to be on the spot light."
"So? Mark is the only cellist. You don't see him complaining about getting the fucking spot light."
"I'm sorry, Gyeom. I wish I could help..."
Yugyeom let out a grateful smile. "Its alright, Kook. We'll sort it out. And plus, I'm sure Chaeyoung can come with new notes that won't need a saxophonist. She's brill-"
A feral grin spread across Jungkook's face and he smirked. "You admit she's brilliant, huh?"
"W-well, she is!" A very flustered Gyeom answered back but then he added, "but it doesn't mean I like her!"
"I never mentioned anything about liking her..."
Yugyeom's face fell and he cleared his throat. "So how long will Taehun stay?" He changed the topic and Jungkook couldn't help but laugh.
"His name is Taehyung... and honestly, I don't know. I just hope whatever the problem he and Jieun has... it gets solved."
"Since, you mentioned... what problem do they have?"
Jungkook drew in a deep breathe as he explained everything from A-Z. Yugyeom's eyes had grown so big, it looked as if they were about to pop out of his eye socket any moment.
"WHAT!"
Jungkook cringed hearing Yugyeom's loud scream and he was sure Taehyung did too because they both heard a loud 'thud' from the living room. He must have fell off from the couch.
"Please tell me that this is all a joke."
"It's not," he answered, grimly.
Yugyeom pinched the bridge of nose and commented, "I swear to God... this city kids have the most bizzare troubles."
"I'm sure Jieun has a reason-"
"Dude, her name isn't even Jieun. What should I call her? Joohyun? At this rate, I don't even trust her."
"Just call her Jieun. But don't piss her off. She's already upset at Taehyung and me."
"Upset? For what?! Because she is a coward and can't face her boyfriend who she left without a note two years ago? Or upset about the fact that she is being a bitch and treating you wrong?!"
"Yugyeom," Jungkook growled angrily, "She is not a bitch."
"Wow, you're so smitten that you don't see what wrong she is doing," he said in disbelief.
Seeing the look of hurt and anger across his face, Jungkook exhaled loudly.
"Sorry, Gyeom. I-I didn't mean to... it's just that... this is not how she is. She is savage, yes but kind. And I'm just... all I want is to sort out things."
Yugyeom's eyes softened. "You don't need to sort out anything. It's their issue and I'm sure they are capable of solving it by their own."
"I know but I just want to help. Anyways, when are you heading out to see Chaeyoung?"
Gyeom frowned. "Why would I head out see her?"
"Didn't you just tell her over the phone that you'd meet her..."
"Ohh... she's coming over here." Suddenly he clicked his fingers and said, "Perhaps she can help? We can tell her about the situation and she can talk to Jie- whatever her real name is."
"I don't think it's a good idea."
"Come on! Chaeyoung is one of the few girls who she speaks to... they might be best friends!"
"I appreciate your help, Gyeom but it's better to not spr-"
"Oh my god! Taehyung oppa!" Both of them hear a loud shriek of joy and Jungkook almost fell off the high stool.
"What the-"
"No way! Rosie!" They hear Taehyung's joyous deep voice.
Both of them scurry out of the kitchen and enter the living room to see Taehyung and Chaeyoung hugging each other in a bear hug. Or more like she was lifted in the air and being twirled around by him.
"You've grown so tall!" Taehyung exclaimed, "and you've become so beautiful!"
Chaeyoung blushed at that as she playfully slapped his arm. Jungkook was afraid to look at Yugyeom, who probably had an annoyed face by now.
"When did you come here? And first of all, how do you know Jungkook?"
"It's a long complicated story but tell me... and you live here? I thought you moved to Ulsan."
"No, we moved here four years ago. Dad works for the Dongin Electricity Company now. Anyway, you should come to my place!"
Before Taehyung could say anything, Yugyeom interrupted. Rather rudely. But neither Chaeyoung nor Taehyung noticed the anger in his voice.
"I'm sorry... but would you rather enlighten us to how you two know each other? And why is he calling you Rosie?"
"Oh, well... in 2012, I went to the national music competition from my old school but my violin string tore and I was crying. That's when TaeTae oppa helped me by fixing it. Like, right on spot! It was amazing! And then after that we kinda started hanging out..."
"H-hanging out?"
Chaeyoung nodded gleefully. "He even won the first prize!" She added.
Taehyung rubbed the back of his nape shyly.
"What was it for, oppa? You played the trumpet, right?"
He chuckled as he softly ruffled her hair. "No, silly. It was a saxophone."
Jungkook saw Yugyeom's eyes widen along with Chaeyoung's. He noticed how her face was shining while his best friend's face drowned in horror. He didn't want Taehyung to be a part of the choir.
"This is it!" She exclaimed.
"What?" Taehyung asked confused.
"No, no, no," Yugyeom interjected.
"I know this is sudden oppa but our saxophonist quit and there's no one else in this town who knows how to play a saxophone. Can you please be the substitute? Please, please, please! The performance is only three days away," she pleaded, completely ignoring Yugyeom.
"This is the school choir, Chayoung. He's not a student and nor a part of our school ," Yugyeom emphasized on the word school, "And b-besides, the rhythm would be hard for him to catch up with!"
To this she scoffed. "Didn't you hear when I said he won the first place? In the entire country?"
"B-but... it's school! And I don't think Princ-"
"I'll see about that, okay?" She interrupted firmly, "I'm the choir head and I am sure Principal Chung wouldn't mind."
"But what if Taehyung is busy?! Yes, right!" Then he turned to look at Taehyung with pleading eyes, "you're gonna be busy, right, dude?"
Jungkook didn't know if Taehyung clearly missed the desperate look in Gyeom's eyes or was he being an asshole because he said he was free and could join in any time. This made Chaeyoung squeal cheerfully and hug him tightly before leaving and saying she'll send a text to the other choir members about Taehyung's participation. But then she stopped mid way from leaving the house and dragged Taehyung to her place for lunch.
"I. Hate. Him," Yugyeom let out angrily and grabbed one of the pillows from the couch and threw it on the floor.
"Calm down. You don't even like her," Jungkook knew he was playing with fire and could die any moment but it was the perfect moment for Gyeom to confess.
"I mean, I don't even know why you're getting so stressed over it..." He continued, nonchalantly as he picked up the pillow from the floor and dusted it. "If you liked her, then maybe... but then you have no feelings for h-"
"I LOVE HER OKAY!" Yugyeom growled loudly and Jungkook smirked.
"Took you long to confess," he said and then softened, "you should probably tell her before it's too late."
"Don't wanna end up as me," he added the last part softly.
