Chapter 1
Friday, 7th October 2005. Spring!
She ran out her front door, joy laced through her, she saw her friends riding by on their bikes, so she ran to join them.
As they road, their dresses blew in the wind and their hair was washed with the breeze.
They peddled through paddocks, laughing and giggling the whole way.
They road down to the stream that glistened in the sun, sending sparkles to erupt when they splashed through.
It was great, they were free!
......
Millie arrived at home, the smile still stuck to her face. She felt as if it would never come off.
She placed her helmet on her bike once she climbed off it.
She walked through her front door. "I'm back!" She called out to her family as she spun with her arms out and listened to the door slam behind her.
She enters the kitchen, and picks up an apple from the fruit bowl.
It crunched in her mouth through her smile.
"Hey darling, how was your ride?" Her mother asked as she enters the kitchen too.
"It was great mum, I can't wait to go out again tomorrow!" She cheered.
But for some reason her mum frowned.
"What's wrong mum? Do you really miss me that much when I leave?!" Millie giggled, as 7 year olds do.
Her mum smiled "Of course I miss you when you leave, sweetie! But that's not what's disturbing me." She frowns.
"Then what's wrong?" Millie asks, now full of concern.
"We're leaving." Her dad says blankly as he enters the kitchen and stands next to her mum.
Millie's Face drops, but she also tries to rub it off.
"You're just playing with me, aren't you." She half smiles.
Her mum shakes her head, "No sweetie, we are really leaving."
All the joy Millie had felt, only moments before, had faded.
"Wha- No! No, we can't be, d-dad?!" She starts backing away, tears starting to dwell in her blue and green speckled eyes. She looks up at her dad, hoping this is all a lie.
He shakes his head. "We leave Tuesday."
The tears fall "NO!" Millie screams and runs out the front door, pushing it so hard it bounces back quickly and slams back.
She runs and runs and runs, the tears spilling from her eye sockets.
"This can't be, this can't be happening!" She whimpers.
Her day was going so well till now, why, why did it have to happen like this!
