Chapter 2

Kaisha's POV

My eyes widened. "You... know my name?" I ask timidly. Was this a trick? "Of course. It's all these kids talk about... You must be popular, huh?" Corey says with a smile. I look down at the floor, "I guess... But not in the way you'd think..." I mutter and sigh, Corey frowns softly and puts a hand on my shoulder. "Hey... Why don't you sing our next song with us? We could sure use a higher voice..." He asks with a smile. My eyes shoot up to his and I smile like an idiot. "Sure!" I squeak. Corey smiled and took my hand as he led me on stage.

Laney handed me a microphone and I was put next to Corey, in the front of the stage. When everyone saw me, they gagged, hissed, and boo'd. I looked up at Corey, who looked at the group disapprovingly. "I'd like you all to meet a good friend of mine, Kaisha. She's gonna be singing with me and Grojband today." Corey announced, earning more boo's.

"She sucks!"

"Are you joking?!"

"Why her?!"

"I can sing much better!"

Corey glanced at me with a smile. "Ignore them. After this song, I'm sure they'll think of you differently." He placed a hand on my head, then pointed to Kon, the drummer. "One, Two, Three, Four!"

If there's a big ol' heep,

We're on top of it

Wow, this hill

Is really steep

And we're the summit!

You tried to stop us

With the trash you've been talking

But you can't bring. Us. Down

Cuz' now this house is rocking!

We are victorious~

(Unexpected!)

We are victorious~

Woah-Yeah!

The crowd cheered and clapped, as I breathed heavily. They liked it? They liked me? I sigh as I think. 'I doubt it. They'll beat me bad for this...' I shudder at the thought."Th-Thanks Corey... But I'm gonna go to the washroom real quick!" I wave and dash, leaving a confused and concerned Corey behind.

Corey's POV

Miss Caroline ran over to us and thanked us a million times. The orphanage was poor, and barely got anything like we pulled off. Of course, we do music for free, But even still, she was grateful, "You're welcome back anytime!" Caroline smiled brightly. As the others hauled our equipment out to the van, I got her alone.

"Excuse me, But could you tell me about young Kaisha?" I asked. Miss Caroline looked surprised I'd asked. "Why, Of course.. But... why her?"

"Why not her? I wanna know about the young girl who sat alone in a corner while other kids danced and played." I asked rather harshly. Miss Caroline looked weak as she sighed. "Well... I'll start with how I found her..."

"It was a quiet night... I had just given a child a new home with a happy family... So I was about to close up the centre for the night. But there was a sudden knock at the door, so I opened it up. I saw nobody...

But what I did find was a small basket, with a young baby girl wrapped in a bright blue blanket. I took her into the building... And she became another one of my children.

She was a natural. She learned to read, write, and walk, faster then anyone. She also was also an amazing singer...

But one day, the children got jealous and began cussing at her, and beating her became a daily sport. Eventually, I had to move her into a room with an older girl, who I thought would take care of her... But it seems Kaisha is neglected by HER more than anybody...

Now Kaisha is ignored and neglected by every child in the orphanage... She tries to fit in but gets beat for it... And I am unable to do anything to stop the children... It's truly sad."

I felt my heart sink. This young, 6-year-old girl was living in a place where she couldn't be safe. Where she couldn't trust or let her guard down. She was living in a place where she was abused, and her 'mother' didn't do anything... she couldn't. I swore I almost teared up...

"Th..Thank you for telling me..." I mutter quietly, leaving the orphanage as Kon honks from the van. "Please visit again!" Miss Caroline waved. "...Kaisha would appreciate it, I'm sure..." She whispered loud enough so I could hear. I kept my eyes glued to the van's floor as we drove back to the garage.

'I wish I could make this little girl's life better...'

... Maybe I can.
