Chapter 1

-Harry-

I walked out of the small room and left everyone to sleep. I was staying at the Burrow, but I knew that even Mrs. Weasley was getting a little sick of me. I'd overheard her talking to Mr. Weasley about me, and she said I was too dangerous. I didn't mind this; it was the truth. But it stung a little. Of course, she still treated me as her own son, and she was like my mother.

I gazed out the window into the pale blue sky. I decided to take a step outside, and rushed briskly through the wooden door. It creaked opened slowly, and I slipped through easily before shutting it behind me. I breathed heavily and watched as those same puffs of air dissolved into nothing. I was freezing, but the last thing I wanted to do was go back inside and face everyone's scared faces.

The door opened abruptly , and I whipped around attentively. I relaxed when I saw it was Ginny. She sauntered over to me cautiously.

"Mum says we're leaving for Diagon Alley soon," she spoke softly. "What are you out here for?" She twirled a strand of her hair carelessly. I shook my head.

"Your mum doesn't like me too much these days," I replied. Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"Mum told us to mind ourselves around you," she admitted. "Of course, she has good intentions, and she didn't mean for you to be angered by it." I walked a little further, and she trailed after me like a lost puppy.

"I don't mind it," I assured her. Ginny looked quite skeptical, but let me be. After a few minutes of utter silence, I spoke again. "Well, you shouldn't disobey your mum." I could tell she knew I was mostly joking, but still, a look of concern and worry spread across her face rapidly.

"I suppose you might be right, actually," she agreed. "Mum has a short temper these days." She sighed and began to drift back towards the Burrow.

"Here," I called to her. "I'll walk with you." A pleasant smile was placed on her face. She was blushing a little, but I ignored it. When we got closer, I eyed the Burrow, finally noticing the fine details. I looked closely, and saw a dainty patch of sunflowers on a high windowsill. Ginny noticed me looking at the house and smiled brightly at me. As if on queue, we stopped directly in front of it and glanced upward. We stood there in a quiet agreement, as if we both knew the importance of the moment. I could tell Ginny thought I might never return to the Burrow, and the thought saddened me. I wanted to reach out and tell her I would, but the silence seemed to hold me back. Finally, I cleared my throat.

"Ready to go in?" I asked quietly. She was about to reply, but the door only feet in front of us was thrust open. Mrs. Weasley popped out, and looked unhappily surprised to see Ginny with me. She gave Ginny a brief look that said it all. It said: I told you to stay away from him, especially now, Ginny!

I watched sadly as Ginny nodded curtly in return and backed away from me, only to run forward into the house. In that moment, I felt a pang of hurt inside me, growing fast. I tried to shove it aside, and instead just passed Mrs. Weasley quickly. My scar was pounding against my head, and I desperately tried to hide it.

Hermione and Ron came down the stairs slowly, and I figured they were arguing again. Fred was messing around with the huge grandfather clock; George was assisting him as they attempted to change Ron's status permanently to lost.

I crept up the stairs quietly, making sure no one saw me. I flung open the door to the room I shared with Ron. Hedwig hooted happily when she saw me, and I tried signaling her to stop.

"I come here for quiet, and then you go and make more noise." I complained to the owl. She continued to hoot wildly in response. I rolled my eyes and muttered a silencing charm. Hedwig almost glared at me, and attempted to hoot some more. This caused me to smile.

Next to nothing makes me smile these days, I thought.

I plopped down on the plush, sturdy bed and sat there for awhile, thinking about where Voldemort and his Death Eaters would strike next.

"That's beyond your control, Harry." I muttered to myself. With that off my mind for a few brief minutes, I soon fell asleep with the thoughts of upcoming nightmares and visions haunting me constantly like horrible ghosts.

I woke up with the faint breath of someone in my face. It was Ron.

"Bloody wonder!" Ron screeched. Ever since Mrs. Weasley got a notice from Professor McGonogall about him cursing to much, she forbid him from cursing at all times. "Are you alright, Harry?"

"Fine...I'm fine, Ron..." I mumbled. "Where's Ginny?" Ron frowned, but consented.

"Ginny's just downstairs in the hall. Why?" he answered me. I ignored his last question. I then hurried down the long, narrow staircase.

"Coming, Ron?" I yelled from the stairs. He threw me a look, and I resisted the urge to smile.

"Harry, there you are!" Ginny exclaimed when she saw me emerge from the staircase. I smiled back at her, and Mrs. Weasley raised an eyebrow when she saw the current situation. I silently climbed down the remaining stairs.

"I'm watching you two," Fred warned meaningfully. "No funny business, you two just play Quidditch together!"

I laughed a little, and Ginny just rolled her eyes. Mrs. Weasley looked relieved.

"Alright, Fred...but can I speak to her...in private?" I asked finally.

"Alright." he agreed. I could tell he was laughing hysterically inside, for he released a small snort as Ginny and I drifted of into the next room.

"Harry, is this really necessary?" Ginny worried.

"If I ever want to get some respect from your brothers, then yes." I joked. She only nodded. "What I really wanted to talk to you about was your mum...she kind of hates me." I grumbled.

"Harry, you know, right now especially, my mum is blindly disoriented. She's sort of...blinded by an obsession for protecting us all...you too Harry. She will eventually realize who the real enemy is...I'm sure of it." she defended.

"And how long will that take?!" I shot back. "This is one of the only places where I'm welcome, and now I'm supposed to have that taken away from me?!" Ginny tried to calm me down, but it was no use.

"Fine then, Harry! Just don't expect for this to dissolve...for now, I'll tell you this Harry! Us Weasley's are stubborn and determined, so don't go trying to talk to any of my brothers either!" Ginny angrily protested against me.

I was quite dazed and confused, so I simply left quietly.
