Chapter 2
-Draco-
"Draco, are you ready?" My mother cooed softly. I nodded curtly, but inside I felt like I was going to throw up. My father's sickening cologne didn't make it much better.
"This is for the best, Draco. We will be rewarded when you complete your task. The Malfoy family will be honored." My father reminded me. He looked away from me as he spoke, like I was an insignificant embarrassment. I flinched slightly as I remembered how he would use the Cruciatus curse on me when I didn't obey him. To him, it was all a game, and he thought he couldn't lose.
"What must I do again, father?" I asked slyly. I plastered a smirk on my face as he turned to look at me reluctantly.
"Draco, it is simple, oh so simple. Even you cannot mess this up. We will go to Borgin and Burke just to test the cabinet. It will work, trust me. When you get to Hogwarts, you will go to the Room of Requirement and find the other matching vanishing cabinet. You will test items in it at first, such as an apple. But soon it will be put to the real test. You will go to the vanishing cabinet on the assigned day, and the Death Eaters the Dark Lord selected will go to destroy Dumbledore and such. You will already be where Dumbledore is, and maybe, just maybe, you will manage to kill him. We will be honored greatly no matter what, but killing him, well, that would be the best possible thing for us now," he explained. I could picture a detailed picture in my mind of what would happen as he spoke.
"Draco, can I talk to you?" My mother asked simply. I sighed, but nodded to avoid further trouble with her. She pulled me into the next room and shut the door so my father couldn't hear us. "Draco," she continued. "I spoke to Snape about all this." She looked worried I might yell, and truthfully I almost thought I would.
"Mother, are you insane?!" I yelled. Whoops, there goes me not yelling, I thought. I murmured a quick silencing charm.
"I was scared for you, and, well, Severus is going to help you." she assured him vaguely.
"Just explain, mother. And hurry, please, before father goes ahead and uses an Unforgivable curse on me again." I reminded her.
"Yes, yes, alright." she mumbled. "I went with your Aunt Bella to see him. She had told me not to, but I was worried about my boy." She stopped abruptly when I rolled my eyes. "It was dark," she continued. "Wormtail was there with him. We talked for awhile, but I finally got to the point. He agreed, but your Aunt Bella made him make the Unbreakable Vow, and, if it must be said, he did it. Severus Snaps made an Unbreakable Vow to protect you, and of you don't preform the deed, he must do it."
I shook my head in disbelief. Finally, I snapped, "I don't need anyone's help with this! And Snape of all people! The one person who I thought believed I could do it on my own!" My mother attempted to reach for my hand, but I yanked it away. "No, get away from me! I will do this on my own!"
I stormed out, and greeted my father with a false sense that everything was alright.
"Grab on, Draco, Narcissa..." My father commanded. I shot daggers at my mother, then turned to nod at my father.
"Borgin and Burke!!" he screamed through the growing rate of the wind. We jerked around for quite some time before it actually seemed like we were landing. Father had showed me how to land softly, but all of us ended up crashing onto the cold, hard floor of Borgin and Borke's.
The store manager stuttered, "Mr. Malfoy...Dr..Draco..sir...Mistress Nar...Narcissa..." He saw Father's look and immediately took us to the back of the store.
The other Death Eaters were waiting for them. I felt a little sick to my stomach, seeing them all there.
Aunt Bella eyed me strangely.
"Come along, Draco," she hissed. "This is the first step to making the Dark Lord proud." I stepped forward, and they showed me everything needed when working the infamous vanishing cabinet.
After a couple hours, they felt they had rattled my brain with information enough, and they let us go.
"Almost rather be a Weaselbee..." I muttered as we grabbed hands to apparate.
I felt my stomach jerk upward as we jolted through the air, spinning so hard and fast I thought it might not be so bad to let go of who I was for once. Just once.
Author's Note:
