Chapter one
"Yes yes yes. Now, make sure to carry yourself with pride, now, miss. Jack, I know you probably don't get why this is important but, have you ever seen a cat?" The man asked, he was poised and elegant, a trait few people had in this common time.
The little girl, Shayla Jack nodded looking around her giant house, the roof was like 100 feet tall to her, everything shined like silver, this is what it always looked like but the girl had found something new to look at every time, no matter if it was the pattern on the rug, or the print on the fireplace.
"Shayla, darling, focus on the question your tutor is asking!" Her aunts voice was full of fake, forced enthusiasm. Shayla glanced at her aunt a little annoyed at her request, she wasn't paying attention at all! The aunt was on her phone playing a dumb game of hers.
"Call me Shay" The brunette insisted giving her a kind smile, this smile was more real and genuine than her aunts she couldn't really pretend to see the point in this all. It was boring and unnecessary in her opinion, in total honesty... A waste of the girls precious time.
Her Aunt Jenna looked up from her phone immediately,"Shay?! Why would you want such a strange nickname?"
"Shay sounds like a boy name," Conner, her 8 year old cousin snickered, at the time he was a year older than the 7 year old that couldn't wait to be mistress.
"And Conner sounds stupid!" Shayla responded her sky blue eyes stared into his soul making him uncomfortable and the temperature rose.
"Mom she's doing it again!" Conner wined.
"Shayla stop it" Jenna scowled causing Shayla to stop.
"Yes, I'll call you back sir" Shaylas father hung up a call on his phone and looked at his daughter who was arguing with Connor.
"Ah there's my little sweet pie!" Her dad swooped her up in his arms giving her a giant hug.
Shayla's father was a billionaire and she will be the heir to the business when he passed away, her mom, Lucinda Jack, died when she was four due to a fire she was told.
Lucinda was a pretty woman with indigo blue eyes and blonde hair she always kept neat. Lucinda was Travis's world and the tragedy had left him broken and sorrowful, but Shayla was his little beam of light and happiness, the only thing that was keeping him sane.
"Hey daddy! Can I go play outside" Shay asked giving him her puppy eyes.
"Of course!" He gave his prized daughter a kiss on the cheek and his sister gave him a look.
"Thanks daddy!" Shayla ran off to the woods with her dolly in her hand.
"You need to be more tough on Shayla, Travis, she needs to learn that there is a no sometimes" His sister counseled him staring at his hazel eyes, the only trait they had in common. Jenna was a raven and Travis was a brunette.
Travis smiled and gave his sister a pat on the back,"Jenna, she's just a little girl let her live, she won't have time when she gets older to dilly dally as much as she does now."
"Yes... I guess you are correct, Travis she made the temperature rise today " Jenna Stared at her brother concerned.
"She did?" He said astonished.
"Yes she did, Travis, what are we gonna do? Her powers are getting stronger she needs to learn" Jenna begged him to allow his daughter to know because she was certain that one day it would become life threatening.
"She will, just not right now..." Travis gave a guilty smile and Lucinda shook her head.
"Travis you can't just put it off like that she-" Jenna was cut off with Travises phone ringing.
"Travis Jack here" he said walking away.
...
"Yes Yui! I would love to eat the cookies you baked!" Shayla took a bite of a cookie while walking in the forest with her doll.
"These are simply too good!" she muffled with crumbs falling onto her dress.
"Yours are better Miss Shay!" She said in a high pitch voice making the doll give her a giant hug.
Snap
Shaylas ears perked up as she clutched her doll close to her chest.
"Hello?" She hollered looking through the smoky trees.
"Who's there?!" She shouted taking a step back from where the noise in front of her came from.
"I asked who is there!" She shouted, her voice carried through the forest louder than she anticipated but it did the job well.
"Who wants to know?" A voice replied back.
