Chapter 22
Victor Henson- Dallas, Texas
2:40 AM CST
The person on the other end of the phone answered it as soon as Victor told Jules what he thought, not giving Jules a chance to respond, even though they didn't say a word to let him know that they were on a call.
"Hello?" Victor asked and raised an eyebrow in question when no one said a word to him. "Hello, is anyone there? Can you hear me?"
Silence...
Victor rolled his eyes and scowled at Jules, earning a small smile from the female he trusted with his life. 'Can we just go, please?' he mouthed to Jules, who bit her lip to keep herself from laughing out loud. 'No one is saying anything over the phone, and I am bored of this bs that this person is playing with me.'
The person on the other end of the phone cleared his throat before there was a sound of papers being shuffled around as if it was an attempt to keep him on the line. "Sorry, sorry," the person on the other side of the phone said before they cleared their throat again. "My apologies, Mr... Henson. Is that correct?"
Victor rolled his eyes and scowled, pressing his lips into a thin line. "Yes, Sir," he said and stood, and the three people that were with him stared at him in shock and surprise because they hadn't expected him to stand. "This is he. Who is this?"
"You will know that in a bit, Mr. Henson. All you have to do is g-"
"-go with these men that are in the house with me. Yes, I know that, Sir," Victor said, interrupting the older male. He cleared his throat and bit back a small smirk when he heard Jules scoff and roll her eyes. "I have been trying to leave for the past few minutes, Sir, but they have not been letting me leave."
"Oh?" the person on the other end of the line asked, sounding shocked and surprised that he was willing to just leave the life he knew and go somewhere else. "And why would they not let you leave?"
"Because Miss Jules thinks that I should ask her my questions when I am sure that she wouldn't be able to answer them," Victor replied. 'Can we go?' he mouthed to her, and she rolled her eyes and scowled without answering that question.
There was a pause on the other end of the line before there was a sound of some papers being shuffled around. "Do you want me to answer your questions, Mr. Henson?" he asked, and Victor had a feeling that he raised an eyebrow in question.
Victor bit back an annoyed sigh and moved a hand through his hair while he pursed his lips in annoyance. "What I would like to do is leave now, Sir," he said. "I'm sure I can have my questions answered later. I do not want to dilly dally along, especially if I am not able to go to work."
Jules bit back a small smile and shrugged, not answering his question about him wanting to go without finishing this. She didn't say a word when Victor playfully glared at her and rolled her eyes, knowing full well that he wasn't that mad at her.
"Right, right, of course," the man on the other end of the phone said and flickered through more papers in front of him as if he hadn't expected him to go without a fight because the others were a little more hesitant. "Ummm, was there anything that you needed from us, or...?" He trailed off and waited for Victor to finish his sentence.
"Not that I know of, no, Sir," Victor said and shook his head. "I just need to grab my hat, boots, and bag, before I lock my door and then go with these men, who have been more than patient with everything that is happening."
"Well, this is easy," the man muttered under his breath as if he forgot that he was still connected to the phone call while he shifted through some more of his paperwork. "Too easy for me, and I am sure that means he is up to something."
"Uh, excuse me, Sir?" Victor asked with a sharp laugh in his voice. "What do you mean by that comment?"
The sound of paper shuffling stopped as soon as Victor said something, and the man cleared his throat, and Victor had a feeling that his cheeks turned red when he blushed. "I-I-I uh..." He wasn't able to finish his sentence for whatever reason, much to Victor's amusement and annoyance.
The young cowboy sighed and moved a hand through his hair and across his face, getting annoyed. "Look, the only thing that I want to know is why," he said. "I am sure that Jules and Bill can't answer that, but I am sure that if I go with these men, then I can figure it out by meeting you in person because you are not helpful over the phone at all. Correct?"
"Uh... yes, yes, of course," the man on the other end said, and Victor rolled his eyes and scowled, his patience with the man growing thin.
"So can I go?" he asked, letting the man hear the impatience in his voice. He was done trying to play nice when all it seemed to do was confuse the man on the other side of the phone.
"Victor," Jules warned instantly about his rude behavior, and Victor looked at her with an annoyed look on his face.
"Or do I need to keep talking to you when it clearly seems to me that you are busy with something else that doesn't have to pertain to me?"
"I-I-" He left the other male stunned enough not to speak in complete sentences, and Victor rolled his eyes and sighed, growing annoyed with him.
"I'll see and meet you whenever I get to where I am going," he said. "Goodbye, and I hope that you have a better day than the one you are having now." He hung up the phone before the other man could say a word, and he tossed the phone to one of the men, who caught it. "Son of a flippin' biscuit," he said with a small hiss in his voice.
"Victor!" Jules said with a shocked laugh in her voice. "What the heck was that for?"
"He pissed me off," Victor said and rolled his eyes, biting back a small frown. "Now, are you coming with me, or do you have to stay here?" he asked, changing the subject.
Jules smiled and shook her head. "Unfortunately, I am not able to go with you," she said. "I'm to stay here, but there will be a chance we will see each other again. However, I do not know when that will be."
"Hmph." He pressed his lips into a thin line and nodded. "Then can you take care of my girl for me?" he asked and raised an eyebrow in question, earning a curious look from the two men.
Jules scoffed a laugh and rolled her eyes, biting back a small scowl. "The dog or the truck?" she asked and raised an eyebrow in question, and amusement flashed through her eyes. "The dog is ours, not yours."
Victor bit back a small smile and tucked his head closer to his chest. "Well, Masey likes me better than all of you," he said and flashed her a small smirk and a wink, and Jules smiled and rolled her eyes because what he said was true. "But yes, can you keep an eye on the dog and truck?"
His truck was his pride and joy, something that he had fixed up from scratch and kept on his boss's farm until he was old enough to drive it, which had happened when he turned sixteen.
Jules bit back a small laugh and nodded. "We will keep an eye on your truck, and Masey will already be looked after. Again, she is our dog and not yours."
"Hmph." Victor didn't say a word and grabbed his duffle from where he had placed it before he walked to where he had placed his boots underneath his Steston and keys, and the three of them watched him without moving or saying a word.
Victor dropped his duffle by his boots and pulled them before he grabbed his Stetson and placed it on his head. He grabbed his keys before he turned to look at them.
"Well?" he asked and raised an eyebrow in question while he studied them, and amusement flashed through his eyes. He picked up his bag and opened the door. "Are you ready? I believe it is time for us to go and see what this new life has to offer me. Don't ya agree?"
The group looked at each other before they looked at the male, who stood at the door, waiting for them to walk through so that he could lock the door behind them.
And without another word from any of them, they all left Victor's house so that Victor could start his new life and find out how to control his powers better than he could on his own.
And hopefully one day, he would be able to come back and live his life like he had it but changed in a different way...
Oh Gods, keep him and his family safe while he learns how to do everything that is needed of him and those that he will soon get to meet that are just like him in one way or another.
