Chapter 21

Victor Henson- Dallas, Texas

2:30 AM CST

Victor walked out of his bedroom and toward the living room while he rolled up his sleeves, until his elbows were showing. His blonde hair was plastered against his forehead from the quick shower he had taken, and he had a bag on his back that had stuff for overnight.

His whole body was relaxed, even though his mind was going a mile a minute while he tried to come up with the reason as to how his friend knew what he could do because he never did anything in front of them.

He knew that there were cameras around the barns and house, but he also knew that they had some "secret" cameras around the place to make sure that no one tried to steal the cattle that they raised and cared for.

"Are you done, Victor?" he heard Jules ask from the living room, and he had a feeling that she lifted her head toward his direction. "Or do I need to send someone into your bedroom to get you and drag you out butt naked?"

"I am right here, Jules," he said and entered the living room to see that Jules was seated in one of the chairs while the two men stood behind her. He could tell that they didn't like the idea of going to his room and dragging him out butt naked, and he couldn't bite back a small smirk. "And it looks like your... partners do not like that idea of dragging me out of the bedroom butt naked."

Jules shrugged and pressed her lips into a thin line. "Go ahead and sit down," she said and gestured toward the other chair in front of the table where a phone lay waiting for someone to call him. "The phone will ring shortly."

Victor looked at the phone before he looked at her with a small frown on his face and furrowed brows. "And what is going to happen with the phone call?" he asked.

"You'll talk to someone about going to the place and have any questions answered that you may have," she said and shrugged, and a small grimace appeared on her face. "Unfortunately, I am not able to say a lot because I have orders that I have to follow, but they are here to take you." She gestured toward the men behind her.

Victor looked at the phone before he looked at her, weighing the pros and cons quickly in his mind. "Or if I say I'll go without answering the phone, do I have to wait for the call?" he asked and raised an eyebrow in question while he studied her. "Or can I go ahead and just go without having to do the whole waiting thing?"

"What?" Jules asked, sounding shocked and surprised with whatever it was that came out of his mouth. "What did you say?"

Victor sighed and shook his head, pursing his lips in annoyance. "If I say I'll go, do I have to wait for the phone call, or can I go ahead and just go?"

"But don't you have questions?" Jules asked and furrowed her brows in confusion while she studied her best friend for many years. "I mean, you should have questions, right?"

"I have a lot of them," he said and nodded, "but I would rather have them answered on the way, if they can answer them or get to the place where I am to go and have them answered that way. I really don't think that it is a good idea to waste time trying to convince me to go when I already said that I'd go."

"Ummm..." She furrowed her brows and tucked her head closer to her chest while she pouted, and Victor thought that she looked cute, even though he knew that they would never be able to be together.

The young female turned to look at the two men behind her, and both shrugged without saying a word. "But what about the phone call?" she asked them. "Shouldn't he talk with him first before he gets into the car?"

"Can't I take the phone call in the car?" he asked and raised an eyebrow in question. "I mean, it's not like we won't have signal, right?" He raised his eyebrow higher in question while he studied her. "We should have enough for whatever phone call that I have to make before we lose it."

One of the men nodded as if to agree with whatever it was that Victor had said.

"There you go," Victor said and gestured toward him. "Then let's go. I don't need to wait for the phone call, a-"

The phone rang before he was able to finish his sentence, and he bit back a small scowl and narrowed his eyes while Jules bit back a small smirk and leaned back in her seat.

"Well, I guess that you have to answer the phone now," she said and folded her arms across her chest. "You can leave after the call, but you are going to have to answer the call before it goes to voicemail."

"Son of a gun," he muttered under his breath while he moved a hand through his hair. He bit back an annoyed sigh and shook his head before he cleared his throat and shifted on his feet. "Fine."

He grabbed the phone from the table and answered the call while he looked at Jules. "Hello?" he asked, raising the phone to his ear. "This is V-"

"If this is Victor, please press five," a robotic voice said, and Victor raised an eyebrow in question.

"What is that supposed to mean?" he asked. "Why is there a robotic voice on the phone asking for me and asking me to press five?"

"Please, press five."

"Go ahead and press five," Jules said and offered him a tight smile while she tucked her head closer to his chest. "You'll be connected to the person that you need to talk to."

Victor bit back an annoyed sigh before he did what he was told to do and pressed five. He held the phone to his ear and waited for the next thing to happen.

"Please hold," the robotic voice said before elevator music started to play, and Victor bit back an annoyed sigh while he rolled his eyes and scowled.

"Oh, you have to be kidding me," he grumbled before he pulled his bag off of his back and sat down with a loud oomph, earning a small snort from Jules while the two men stared at him with an amused look on their faces but not saying a word.

Victor looked at Jules and bit back a small smirk, and amusement filled his eyes. He didn't say a word while he stared at her, but he didn't need to because the female knew exactly what it was that he was thinking.

"Don't you dare, Victor," she said and scowled while she narrowed her eyes, even though amusement flashed through them. "Don't you dare do what it is that you are thinking about doing, Victor."

"And what is it that I want to do?" he asked and raised an eyebrow in question while he studied her with a small smirk. He cocked his head to the side while he continued to study her. "Or do you even know?"

She bit back a tired sigh and shook her head while she pursed her lips in annoyance. "Because I know you, Victor," she said and moved a hand through her hair. "I know you like the back of my hand, and that is why I was surprised when you said that you would go without having to talk to anyone and already have a bag packed and ready to go." She gestured toward the bag beside him.

Victor offered her a tight smile and tucked his head closer to his chest. Pain and sadness filled his eyes while he did so, and he grabbed the phone tighter in his hand, waiting for the person to answer the phone call. "Becasue I trust you, Jules," he said with a small hum in his voice. "And I know that you wouldn't do me wrong."

I hope...
