Perfect

Shaw's P.O.V

Shaw yawned and combed her fingers through her hair as she walked down the stairs of the club at one o'clock in the afternoon. The bar was closed, it was just a few of the people that worked there. They usually just crash upstairs when they're too drunk or too tired to drive home at four in the morning.
The owner, Mr. Finch, took pity on the girls and boys that worked for him. Most of them came from rough lives. They'd been neglected, abused, they were orphans, their parents were sick, they were poor and needed to pay for college. There was a hundred reasons for people to come work for Finch, he was a great guy and took care of his workers. He let them sleep in the apartments above his bar and gave them extra shifts when they were needed. He was a sweetie.
Shaw groaned as she got downstairs and saw people lined up out the door. "When did we start being a twenty-four hour brothel, hoes?"
"Finch is looking for new bartenders." John Reese, our bouncer, explained.
"Uuuuugh, for why?" Joss, a waitress, asked, laying on the counter.
"Because he hates us, babe." Shaw grabbed a bottle from behind the counter.
"Yes, either that or the fact that we need bartenders to tend bar so we can be a bar and not a whore house." John rolled his eyes.
"I'm too tired to argue but later I will have a comeback." Shaw poured alcohol into Joss' mouth.
Joss was a single mother of an eight year old boy. She didn't get to see him as much as she'd like too because she was always working to keep food on the table. It was sad that to be a good mom she couldn't be with her kid. All of the people who worked here at 'The Machine' had sad stories, though. Including Shaw.
"Sure." He laughed as Mr. Finch walked down the stairs. "Hey, boss."
"Hello, Mr. Reese." Finch greeted. "Ms. Carter, Ms. Shaw."
"I hate new people." Carter sat up.
"Please, remove yourself from the counter, Ms. Carter."
She slid off the counter as John opened the door to let the potential future bartenders into the bar. There were about a dozen candidates milling in. Some men, mostly women.
"On that note, I'll be leaving!" Shaw said, patting Mr. Finch on the back. "Goodbye, my lovely lovers!"
"Goodbye, Shaw." John waved as she ran out of the bar, running face first into a woman.
"Aah!" The woman screamed, dropping her binder. Papers filed out.
"'Aah!' to you, too!" Shaw greeted. "Sorry about that."
"I wasn't looking." The girl blushed, sheepishly.
"Heh... gotta blast!" Shaw ran off without another word.
The woman frowned after her.
---
Shaw opened the door to her house. "Dad? I'm home!"
"Sam? Come in here a moment, would you?" He asked.
"Sure thing, Pops." She ran into the kitchen where she found her father, making lunch. "What's up?"
"Well, I've been thinking... you're thirty-two now. It's about time you settled down and got married."
Shaw had to do a double take and nearly joked on thin air. "What?!"
"You heard me, Sam. You can't take your clothes off for a living anymore. You're getting to a certain age where--"
"I'm getting a sense of deja vu..." She face palmed. "I don't want to go through The Talk Take Two!"
"Sam, this is serious. You need to grow up."
"Over my dead body! I don't want to be old!"
"Sam! I'm not asking anymore! It's time you take responsibility!"
"What? I'm not the perfect little girl daddy wanted me to be? Did i grow up according to plan?  Suck it up! I did what I had to do and I like what I do! Deal with it!"
"Sameen!"
"I took care of this family when you couldn't!" She motioned at his wheelchair. "You served the county, fine! I served my family! I don't care!"
"You need to grow up! You can't live like this! Drugs, sex... it's not good for you!"
"Maybe not but it's who I am! It's what you made me! I'm not perfect, okay? I was just a kid and I had to take care of my family! I'm never going to be good enough for you!" She stormed out of the house, with her father shouting behind her. Then she stormed back in because of an old rule her mother had. Never leave a room mad at someone you love. "Love you, Daddy."
"You too, Muffin." He took her hand and kissed it. "But you still need to get married."
"Hahaha, no. Bye." She skipped out of the room again.
---
Shaw returned to the bar that was nearly empty again. "What's up, mother fuckers!?"
"Oh, my best friend in the world!" Joss grinned and ran over. "We have new bartenders!"
"Didn't you say that you hate new people?"
"That was before I saw our new gay bartenders! Yum."
"Aren't you straight? The only straight person in the Machine?"
"No! I think Finch is straight." She grinned. "But I wouldn't mind going gay for these ladies."
"Oh, but when I wanted to sleep with you--" Shaw made some complicated gestures, flailing her arms around.
"Haha, you're not my type, hoe." Carter grinned.
"You wouldn't know your type it it bit you in the ass, Joss." John chuckled, walking over.
"Exactly. In the ass." Shaw smirked.
"You two are pains. In the ass."
"You love us."
