Chapter 46
Miu's POV
The sun dipped low on the horizon, bathing the private beach in Phuket in a warm, golden light. It was that slow, liquid gold hour where the sky melted from a bruised peach to a dusty violet, the very same colors that had painted the cliffs of Biarritz on our last night in France.
Gentle waves lapped softly against the shore, a steady, rhythmic rush of water that provided a soothing, natural soundtrack to the most important day of our lives.
The salty tang of the sea breeze swept across the sand, carrying with it the cool, clean scent of the ocean and the faint, sweet perfume of the crushed petals underfoot.
In the quiet of the bridal suite just off the beach, the French doors stood wide open to the sea. The sheer white curtains billowed inward like breath, dancing gently with the warm evening breeze.
I stood in the center of the room, my skin cool despite the tropical heat, listening to the distant murmurs of the arriving guests. My heart was pounding so hard I could feel it in my throat. This was really happening.
After everything — the heartbreak, the distance, the long year of wondering if we would ever find our way back — today was the day I would marry Lena.
"Stop holding your breath, Miu," Lingling scolded softly, though her hands were uncharacteristically shaky as she adjusted the delicate lace along my shoulder.
She caught my eye in the mirror, her own eyes bright with unshed tears. "If you faint before you even get to the sand, Lena will probably try to perform CPR and ruin both of your outfits."
I let out a shaky laugh, the sound trembling with nerves and overwhelming joy. Looking at my reflection, I could hardly believe it was me.
My wedding dress was everything I had dreamed of — an elegant, flowing ivory gown with delicate lace details across the bodice and sleeves. The fabric was so light, the skirt cascading softly around my legs like sea foam catching the wind.
My hair was styled in loose, romantic waves that brushed against my bare shoulders, and in my trembling hands, I held a bouquet of white roses and delicate orchids, the stems wrapped in a scrap of silk cut from the very same shirt of Lena's I had worn on the morning of our reconciliation.
Lingling stepped back slightly, her fingers lingering on the lace as if she didn't quite want to let go yet. For a long moment, she just looked at me through the mirror, her usual playful energy replaced by something deeper and more vulnerable.
"You look so beautiful," she whispered, voice cracking. "I still remember the day you showed up at my apartment after Lena left... completely broken. And now look at you." She let out a watery laugh and quickly dabbed at the corner of her eye. "You fought so hard for this, Miu. You both did."
I felt my own eyes sting. "I couldn't have done it without you, Ling. You were the one who knocked sense into both of us when we were being idiots."
Lingling smiled, proud and teary. "Damn right I did." She reached forward and gently fixed a strand of my hair, her touch full of sisterly affection. "You've spent so long carrying the weight of the last year, Miu. Today, you let it go. Go marry your Director."
I took a deep, centering breath, trying to steady the rush of emotions threatening to overwhelm me. Then, with Lingling's hand gently squeezing mine one last time, I walked out of the suite and stepped onto the warm sand.
At the far end of the aisle, under the arch, stood Lena.
She looked devastatingly beautiful. She wore a tailored white linen suit that fit her perfectly, the jacket left open to reveal a simple, flowing silk top beneath. Her dark hair was styled back, elegant and sharp, but her usually composed, untouchable Director expression had completely crumbled.
Her shoulders were tense, her chest rising and falling with shallow, shaky breaths, and her brown eyes were already glistening with unshed tears as they locked onto me.
The soft, emotional melody of the string quartet began, the violins carrying a slow, sweeping tune that seemed to pull the breath right out of my lungs.
I took my first step down the aisle, the warm sand yielding beneath my bare feet. With every slow, deliberate step, a rush of memories flooded through me, mapping out the chaotic, beautiful blueprint of how we had finally built our way to this sand.
Flashback – Two months earlier
We had told my father in person, on a rainy Sunday evening just days after we got back to Bangkok. The rain was drumming a steady, heavy beat against the glass windows of my childhood home, the sound of the storm relentless outside.
Inside, the warm, earthy fragrance of the jasmine tea my father had just set down clung to the air, offering a quiet comfort against the chill. We sat together on the familiar sofa, the air thick with a nervous, electric anticipation.
Lena's knuckles were white on the steering wheel during the drive over, and even now, sitting in front of my family, she refused to let go of my hand.
My father was sitting in his favorite armchair, the steam from his tea rising lazily into the quiet room. He looked up as we settled in, his eyes dropping almost immediately to our joined fingers, and then to the sparkling diamond catching the warm lamplight on my left hand.
He didn't say a word at first. He slowly set his teacup down on the side table, the soft clink of porcelain echoing in the quiet room.
Lena stepped forward, pulling me gently with her, her posture rigid but her eyes completely resolute.
"Papa," I started, my voice small, but before I could continue, my father stood up. He walked over to us, his gaze moving from the ring to Lena's face. He looked at the heavy, defensive wall Lena usually kept up, and how it had completely melted away, leaving her looking raw and vulnerable.
He let out a long, heavy sigh that seemed to carry a year's worth of worry. Then, slowly, the sharp lines around his eyes crinkled, and his face softened with profound emotion.
"You two... after everything," he said, his voice thick and wavering. He reached out, his warm, lined hands covering both of ours, squeezing tightly.
"I spent a lot of years watching things break, girls. Sometimes, I let them go because it seemed easier than trying to piece them back together. I made those mistakes, and I promised myself I wouldn't let you do the same. But I watched you both wither when you were apart. If you are sure this is what you want—if you are absolutely certain that you are ready to hold on to each other and never let go—then you have my blessing. Just promise me you'll take care of each other this time. No more running across oceans to escape what you feel."
"We promise," Lena had said firmly. Her voice was steady, her eyes bright with tears as she looked him directly in the eyes. "I am never letting her go again."
Telling Mak had been just as real, and surprisingly heartfelt. We had met him a few days later at a quiet, dimly lit restaurant on the outskirts of Bangkok, away from the prying eyes of the local architectural boards.
The soft clinking of ice in glasses, the low hum of jazz, and the distant chatter of other diners kept us grounded. The moment we sat down, the air was slightly tense with our complicated history.
Mak looked at Lena, his gaze lingering on the subtle, relaxed softness in her posture—a softness that only ever appeared when she was with me.
The second he saw the ring, the tension in his shoulders vanished. He stared at our hands on the dark wood table for a long moment, then let out a soft, dry laugh and shook his head, a genuine, relieved smile breaking across his face.
"About damn time," Mak said, leaning back in his chair and looking between us. "I won't lie to you both, it was messy as hell. But after you left for Germany, Lena... I was there with Miu every single day at the office. I saw how broken she was, how she went through the motions like a ghost. And I also saw how much she still loved you, even when she was furious with you. I've been rooting for you two to find your way back for months now."
Mak reached across the table, placing a supportive hand over ours, his eyes sincere and completely free of any lingering ghosts. "You make her happy, Lena. You give her back her light. That's all that matters to me now. Congratulations, you two. I'm really, truly happy for you."
It wasn't just polite, corporate well-wishes. It was real, honest support—the kind of sturdy, load-bearing foundation we had both desperately needed to move forward.
I took another step down the aisle, the hem of my dress brushing against the scattered petals. To my right, Lingling was standing near the front as my maid of honor.
She looked stunning in her peach-colored dress, but she was already a total disaster. She was aggressively dabbing at her eyes with a lace handkerchief, her shoulders shaking.
Flashback – The day they told Ling
The memory flashed vividly in my mind. Ling had screamed so loudly when I casually flashed my ring over a lunch of spicy papaya salad that I was convinced the restaurant neighbors would file a noise complaint.
She had instantly lunged across the table, nearly knocking over our drinks, and tackled me into a fierce, neck-snapping hug.
When she finally pulled back, she pointed a dramatic, warning finger directly at Lena's nose.
"You!" Ling had threatened, her voice cracking. "If you ever and I mean ever hurt her again, I will personally sneak into your new firm's database and redesign your entire flagship skyscraper into a giant, neon-pink horror show. Don't think I won't do it, Schuett."
But even as she threatened her, Ling's eyes had filled with huge, happy tears. She reached out, grabbing Lena's hand too, forcing our three hands together in a messy pile.
"But honestly... I've never seen either of you this happy. Even when you were at your best before, it wasn't like this. You both look whole. You deserve this. Both of you."
Another memory surfaced—the night we told Lena's family.
It was a formal dinner that had quickly dissolved into something incredibly rare and beautiful. Her dad, usually so quiet and imposing, had stood up from the head of the table, walked over to us, and pulled both of us into a tight, rib-crushing hug that smelled of expensive cologne and vintage wine.
He hadn't said many words, but the firm squeeze of his hand on my shoulder had spoken volumes. They were ultimately overjoyed, welcoming me not as a business merger, but as a daughter.
And then there were the quiet, secret nights we had spent planning. Choosing this beach in Phuket because it felt like our own private world. Deciding on simple, honest vows instead of grand speeches.
Laughing over cake flavors, our fingers sticky with sweet vanilla frosting, and slowly, gently healing every old wound until the scars became beautiful.
About halfway down the aisle, Mak stepped forward from his seat.
He looked handsome in his light linen suit, but more importantly, he looked at peace. His eyes were soft as he met me, offering his arm with a small, emotional smile.
"Hey, little sister," he said quietly, voice thick. "You look absolutely stunning."
I slipped my arm through his, feeling a fresh wave of tears threaten to spill. This moment meant more than I could put into words, after all the pain, the anger, the broken glass and hospital visits, here he was, walking me toward the woman who had once torn our family apart... and now helped heal it.
"Thank you for being here," I whispered.
Mak gave my arm a gentle squeeze. "I wouldn't miss it. You two fought hard for this." He glanced ahead at Lena, who was watching us with visible emotion. "Take care of her, okay? And let her take care of you."
When we reached the end of the aisle, Mak slowly placed my hand into Lena's waiting one. He looked between us for a long moment, then gave Lena a small, genuine nod — a silent blessing, full of history and forgiveness.
"Take good care of my sister, Lena," he said, voice low but warm.
"I will," Lena replied, her voice steady despite the tears in her eyes. "For the rest of my life."
Mak leaned in and pressed a quick, brotherly kiss to my temple before stepping back to his seat.
I stood there holding Lena's hands, my vision completely blurred by tears.
She stepped slightly closer, her thumbs gently stroking over my knuckles to ground me as the wind played with my veil.
We stood there on the altar, the rest of the world fading into a quiet blur. Lena looked up, her gaze softening as she saw a single tear spill over my lashes. With absolute tenderness, she lifted her hand, her thumb brushing the wetness from my cheek.
Just then, a sudden, playful gust of sea breeze caught my veil, sending the sheer white fabric fluttering wildly. Without a word, Lena reached out, her fingers lingering against my neck as she gently smoothed the lace back down behind my shoulder, her touch a silent promise of safety.
We turned to face the officiant, our hands tightly clasped.
The officiant smiled warmly at us, looking out at the ocean before speaking. "We stand today on shifting sands," he began, his voice carrying over the gentle rush of the tide.
"The ocean breeze before us is beautiful, but sand is, by its very nature, impermanent. It moves with the wind, and it yields to the water. But sand holds a secret. When it is subjected to intense heat and immense pressure when it undergoes the fierce, chaotic testing of the elements it melts. It fuses. And it becomes glass. Clear, brilliant, and incredibly strong. It is no longer easily swept away; it becomes a window to let in the light."
The officiant looked between the two of us, his smile deepening. "Your love, Lena and Miu, has faced that fire. It has been tested by pressure and distance, and today, you stand here not as shifting sand, but as something clear, strong, and beautiful. You are ready to make your promises."
"Miu..." Lena began, her fingers tightening around mine as a tear slipped down her cheek.
"I used to think my job in this life was to be the architect of your safety—that if I built high enough walls, I could keep the chaos of my world from ever touching yours. I thought walking away was the ultimate act of protection. But you showed me that a life built in isolation isn't a home at all. You are my peace, my anchor, and the only blueprint I ever want to follow. Today, I promise to stand by you, to let down my guard, and to fight for us every single day. I promise to love you fiercely in the quiet spaces and the loud ones, and to spend the rest of my life making sure you always know how deeply, how completely, you are cherished."
I could barely breathe through the heavy sob rising in my chest when it was my turn, the tears hot on my cheeks as I looked into the eyes of the woman who had fought so hard to find her way back to me.
"Lena..." I whispered, taking a trembling but resolute breath. "We've known what it's like to watch our world fall apart, but we also learned how to roll up our sleeves and rebuild it, brick by brick, into something completely unbreakable. I don't love you in spite of the cracks in our past; I love you because we filled those spaces with forgiveness, patience, and a love that refused to end. You are my partner, my equal, and my greatest adventure. Today, I choose you—not just for the beautiful, sun-drenched days, but for every storm we have yet to face. I promise to be your safe harbor, to laugh with you through every beautiful mess, and to love you with everything I am, in this lifetime and every single one that follows."
The officiant smiled warmly, looking between the two of us. "By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you partners for life. Lalina, you may now kiss your wife."
Lena didn't hesitate for a single second. She stepped in, her hands instantly sliding up to cup my face, her fingers tangling in my hair as she pulled me into her arms and kissed me with everything she had.
The kiss was deep, desperate, and sweet all at once, the immense relief of second chances, and the sacred promise of thousands of tomorrows.
Our guests erupted into loud, thunderous applause and cheers. Lingling was openly sobbing into her handkerchief, leaning against the arch for support.
Mak was clapping with a proud, emotional smile on his face, while both of our fathers watched us with glistening, proud eyes.
Later that evening, under long, sparkling strings of glowing warm fairy lights stretched across the beach, the scent of grilled seafood and sweet coconut filled the air. The sky had turned into a deep indigo, and the ocean became a dark mirror reflecting the stars and the golden lights.
Lena and I shared our first dance as wives. The acoustic music swelled around us, but I could barely hear anything over the sound of her breath against my ear.
She held me incredibly close, her arms wrapped tightly around my waist, our foreheads pressed together as we swayed slowly to the music on the cool night sand.
"Mrs. Schuett," I whispered against her temple, my voice full of a quiet, breathless wonder.
Lena laughed softly, she's completely glowing with a happiness that felt permanent. She leaned up, pressing a soft kiss to my jaw. "I really like the sound of that."
I laughed softly, my heart fuller than it had ever been. I leaned up and pressed a soft kiss to her jaw. "I really like the sound of that."
Lena pulled back just enough to look at me, her eyes shining with happy tears. "I keep thinking about Biarritz... how I carried you to the tub because you said you couldn't walk. And now here we are. Married. On a beach in Phuket."
She let out a soft, disbelieving laugh. "I don't deserve you, but I'm going to spend every single day trying to."
"You do deserve me," I whispered, tightening my arms around her neck. "We deserve each other. After all the storms, the guilt, the distance... we made it."
Lena pulled back just enough to look at me, her eyes shining with happy tears and amusement. "You know... I still can't believe you gifted me a thirty-five million dollar Leica for my birthday. You were completely insane for that, Miu. Even now, I sometimes open the case just to stare at it and wonder how the hell I got so lucky."
I let out a bright, delighted laugh, tilting my head back slightly. "I didn't care if I went broke," I said honestly, grinning up at her.
"As long as it made you happy. I was down bad for you since the very beginning, Lena. That camera was just proof. I wanted to give you something that could capture all the light in the world... because you brought so much light back into mine."
Lena's eyes softened even more. She leaned in and kissed me slowly, tenderly, right there on the dance floor in front of everyone. When she pulled back, her forehead rested against mine again.
"You've been spoiling me since day one," she murmured, voice thick with emotion. "And I'm never going to stop trying to catch up."
We kept swaying slowly, lost in our own little world even as our family and friends watched us with fond smiles.
Lena's thumb traced small circles on my lower back, and every now and then she would press a kiss to my forehead, my temple, or the tip of my nose — small, reverent touches that said more than words ever could.
Before the song could fully end, Lingling stood up, tapping a fork gently against her champagne glass. The crowd quieted with warm laughter and anticipation.
Ling stepped forward, looking radiant in her peach dress, eyes still a little red from crying earlier. She raised her glass, smiling at both of us with so much love it made my chest ache.
"To Miu and Lena," she began, voice clear and warm. "You two put every single one of us through it. The drama, the heartbreak, the year of radio silence... but you also showed us what real love looks like. The kind that fights. The kind that comes back. The kind that chooses each other even when it's hard."
She paused, eyes glistening again. "Miu, you're my best friend and the strongest person I know. Lena... you better keep making her this happy, or I will whoop your ass. But mostly... thank you for finding your way back to each other. You deserve every bit of this joy. Cheers to your forever!"
The guests erupted in applause and laughter. Lena and I both raised our glasses toward Ling, my heart overflowing.
"I can't wait to take you home tonight, wife," Lena murmured, voice dropping into that low, intimate tone that still made my stomach flutter. "I have plans for you that don't involve anyone else watching."
I laughed against her shoulder, warmth flooding my cheeks. "Behave, Director. At least until we cut the cake."

****
A/N
And just like that... we have officially reached the end of Lena and Miu's story. 🥹😭
If you had told me when I first started writing this that we would make it all the way to Chapter 46, I probably would have laughed.
For the longest time, I was just a silent reader, content to stay in the shadows and simply immerse myself in other people's beautiful stories.
Actually taking the leap to put my own words out there, to design this world, and to share my version of Lena and Miu was one of the most terrifying and rewarding things I've ever done.
After all the intense angst, the heartbreak, and the emotional rollercoasters I've put you all through... we are finally, officially here in the happy ending! They made it, and more importantly, we made it.
This story has been a journey of rebuilding, quite literally. We watched them build a beautiful foundation, saw it shatter, and then watched them roll up their sleeves to rebuild it, brick by brick, into something completely unbreakable.
To everyone who read, left a kudos/likes, commented, screamed in the replies, or quietly rooted for them from the sidelines—thank you.
Thank you so much for sticking with me, even through my periods of ghosting, all the way to this very final page.
You survived the angst, the distance, and the longing right alongside them, and they couldn't have made it to that beach in Phuket without your support. You gave me the courage to keep writing.
But don't go too far just yet!
I am so excited to share that I am already working on a brand-new LenaMiu fanfic, and it is going to be very different from this one.
While this book was heavy, intense, and full of raw angst, the new one is a complete 180-degree turn from TOE.
It's light, it's funny, and it's a total breath of fresh air. I wanted us all to have some fun this time around!
I truly hope to see you guys join me on this new journey. While this chapter is closed, Lena and Miu will always have a very special place in my heart.
Thank you for building this with me. See you in the next story! 🤍✨
