Chapter 66
Felicity's POV.
After returning from the concert Kendrick asked me about my past and I opened up about where my thoughts and feelings are about it. I could see the worry he had for me. It's still hard remembering and talking about it, but at the same time I like that I don't have to hide it any more, I don't have to keep it a secret unless I want it to be. Kendrick is constantly reminding me that I'm strong for having gone through what I experienced and I'm slowly starting to except it. When in conversation, I talk as though I'm fine and my confidence in myself is in place but it is not always what I really feel. I don't want others to know when I'm struggling with it, and even when I have a bright smile on my face, on the inside I don't feel like it.
I hate walk around feeling as though everyone knows my story, that they can see the truth in my eyes, as if I wear it for all to see. Warren's pack know a portion of it but we have kept most of the details private. Even people that don't know me completely I find myself worrying and wondering if they know the truth, as if it is stamped on my forehead saying 'abused and rapped by her father.' I get lost in my insecurities. I know Kendrick and the others are trying to be supportive, and that until I move beyond my own insecurities I will always doubt the genuinous of others, no matter who they are. Even my friends I question their motive of staying by my side.
Over the past couple weeks I've drawn away from my friends and Kendrick. Even after telling him everything I still hide myself away, I'm scared if I tell him all I'm feeling he'll leave. Why would someone stay with someone like me? I can see how much he is trying to help, to get me to talk to him about what's going on but I can't. I don't even understand it myself. Maybe I'm overly concerned with how people think of me, and I know I shouldn't be but it's a struggle to let it go. It keeps me from completely trusting those in my life. It's as though my heart and mind are in contrast, and I keep having the same conversation over and over again with myself.
I feel a hand squeeze my smaller one "Hey, are you okay? You've been pretty quiet." I look over at Kendrick to see concern in his eyes shifting between me and the road. We're on our way to Kendrick's pack, Lana and they others told me it might be nice to have a new environment.
I hate feeling like people are walking on eggshells with me, as if they're afraid in going to break. Don't get understand that it's tiresome having everyone keep an eye on me, asking if I'm okay all the time. They've each tried to get me to talk. They even pulled Dan away from his mate, although he told me when he found out what was happening that he didn't think twice about seeing me. I don't know when it started happening but Dan's become my best friend. I feel like I can open up to him, even more than Kendrick right now.
Now Kendrick is a whole other topic. We still have so much more to discover about each other. I love him but we don't know as much about each other as much as I would like to and I think he feels the same way. I can tell by the look on his face how much he's trying to get to know everything about me but I'm having a tough time letting others in. That's where things with Dan is just easier, there is no pressure, I just listens to whatever I want to tell him without asking anything. I'm trying for Kendrick but it's not as easy as I thought it would be.
I decided- a few days ago- to just go along with their plan. Truthfully I really just wanted to be with Kendrick and learn more about his pack and see everything with my own eyes rather than him telling me about them. I love listening to him talk about them; he is so passionate and his eyes light up. I can see how much he cares for everyone of his pack members. I can't even remember how many time we've laughed together over the funny stories, the tales he's told me about them that has brought tears to my eyes. He has made me fall in love with them too. It's still a shock to think I am a luna now. I'm also happy to have this opportunity to finally have a group of people that will love me for me, to have a family. I can't wait!
"Felicity?" I blink my eyes and realize I still haven't answered him. "Oh, sorry Kendrick. I was just lost in my own thoughts," I smile at him reassuringly. "How much longer before we arrive at your pack?"
He smiles as me, hearing the excitement in my voice. "We've actually got a few more minutes before we arrive. That's why I spoke up, I wanted to let you know how soon we would be stopping but you were lost in your own thoughts and ignoring your handsome mate." I laughed in awkward embarrassment, "Oops?"
I look over at him and he gives me a mock frown, I flash an overly bright smile in return. Kendrick laughs at my expression, "I can't stay mad at you even if I tried, you're too adorable."
I childishly stick my tongue out at him while he looks at the road in front of him. "We'll be there in a few minutes now." I begin to feel nervous as we turn onto a driveway. I start to fidget the closer we get to the house which I can see in the distance. The driveway is extremely long, the main pack house is far from the entrance so there is plenty of space for the wolves to run and roam around the property, or so Kendrick tells me. We'll be in the car for another twenty minutes before we reach our destination.
Kendrick continues to tell me about the property and how everything is set up about the grounds. Interestingly enough they have two large pack houses, most have either one giant structure or one big house and a series of smaller housing for the other members who choose to live apart from the pack.
It's not much longer before we're close in on the pack houses but not enough that I can see clearly. Our view is still obstructed by the trees and shrubs around us. Strangely enough I can't seem to spot any wolves running about the property which is not uncommon to see when on pack land. "Felicity, don't freak out but the whole pack wants to meet you. I told them to wait but they wouldn't, they are a force to be reckoned with when they get excited about something. I didn't want to use my position as their Alpha against them, I couldn't say no. I know you may be nervous but I have a feeling you'll be happy to meet them."
His eyes flicker to my anxiously and I can't say no. I can see the worry and truthfully I can't deny I am excited to meet all of them too. I am unsure how to respond with my feelings flying in all directions but I think this will be great.
I reach for his hand with my left to reassure him, "I think you're right, it's okay. I'm excited myself." I swat his shoulder awkwardly with my other hand, "you could have at least warned me sooner! Don't even try to play it off, as if you didn't know about this a while ago." I'm surprised when his cheeks blush a deep red, "you're right, I did know. I'm sorry, I just wasn't sure if preparing you was a good idea I didn't want you panicking for half the trip."
"You knew for half the trip!" I smack his arm again. I can't believe it! "Yes! When we stopped for gas my beta called me asking if it was a good idea. I could hear everyone on the other line, they were so excited I could barely hear my beta speaking into the phone!" He looks so regretful that I burst into laughter at his expression.
"Alright I'll let it go...for now. Don't think I'm not going to get you back for this." He shifts his eyes from the road to look at me and I can see he's a little disconcerted with my response. "What are you planning to do?"
"As if I'm telling you!" I let out an evil laugh with my head tipped back and everything. I've got him now.
Kendrick suddenly announces in a way to distract me, "Oh look, we're here!" Turning my eyes back to the road in front of us my eyes almost bulge out of their sockets. There in front of both pack houses, which are a close distance to each other, is a large crowd of people. I see some just chatting with each other, others watching over their kids and reprimanding them when they misbehave, a group of guys playing soccer while some girls either join in or watch. It isn't until someone shouts and points are our car that everyone looks at us. It freaks me out since everyone turns their heads at the same time. Suddenly I watch as they all become chaotic: kids run back to their parents, everyone collecting together to wait for our arrival. All sort of activity coming to a stand still at our approach. Many begin to fiddle with their clothes and hair to look presentable.
Following suit with my future pack members I also began to make sure I looked appropriate. Finding not a hair out of place I place my hands in my lap and try to look as calm as poasible. As the car pulls up outside the houses I turned to opened the door but stop when a hand touchs my left arm. "Allow me, my lady."
Kendrick quickly unbundles and gets out of the car. Coming around the front and opens my door. Stepping out he holds his hand out to me and I place mine in his. Kendrick leans in, kissing my forehead and squeezes my hand in reassurance and together we turn to face his pack as one.
