Chapter 12
Sam P.O.V
What just happened?
One moment I was laughing, joking around with Jack, Laura and Beth and then the next I turn to see Taylor running off. I shouted after her, wondering where she was off to, but she never answered back. It was only for the split second that I saw her face, that I noticed she was crying, right before she vanished from my sight.
With worried glances at the others, I quickly got out of my chair, throwing my shoulder bag over my shoulder and giving them an apologetic smile.
"Sorry, I have to go after her." I said. They nodded, like they understood.
"It's okay, Sam." Laura smiled. "We'll see you in the next class!"
"Yeah, see you!" I waved, before turning and starting into a jog on my way to go after Taylor.
She must be a fast fucking runner. Because by the time I got out of the cafeteria, she had completely disappeared with no trace. Where the hell did she go?!
The only place I could think of was the girl's bathroom. After all, that's where I'd go if I wanted to cry without anyone seeing me. So, with that thought in mind I continued down the corridor in hope to find her exactly where I expected to find her.
Crying.
That was the first sound I heard when I quietly opened the door to the girl's bathroom. Seems like I was right, she was in here. That was definitely her.
When the door closed behind me, the crying abruptly ended, obviously startled that someone was in there with her.
I took a few steps forward, my black sneakers clapping against the tiled floor, before I stopped in front of the only locked stall out of all of them. I hesitated, but opened my mouth to speak.
"Taylor...?" I murmured.
"Sam?" Taylor's shaky voice spoke on the other side of the door. "W-Why do you have to follow me all the time...? Why can't you just... Leave me the fuck alone?!"
I paused.
"Because I'm confused as to why you're upset. I wanted to be there and ask what's wrong." I answered to the stall door. My eyes focused on some of the paint, that was noticeably flaking away, before I opened my mouth to speak again. "So what's wrong?"
"It doesn't matter." Taylor spat. "It's stupid." She sighed.
"I'm sure it's not, Tay."
"No, but it is!" She screamed in frustration. I stayed silent, hoping that maybe she'd explain herself a little more.
The lock on the stall door was unlocked, and I saw it slowly open inwards to reveal Taylor standing with tear stains all down her cheeks, with new ones still continuing to show as the tears still flowed down her face.
"Taylor...?"
Without saying anything else, she walked towards me, standing in front of me with narrowed eyes. The look on her face was like that of a curious cat in a way. Pondering whether or not she should do whatever she was about to do.
"Taylor, please... Just tell me--"
"Shut up." She interrupted me. I was ready to protest, to beg her to tell me the problem. But before I could even do anything, my eyes widened in utter shock when I felt her force her lips upon mine.
I fell back in shock, feeling my back collide with the wall behind me as the kiss deepened. I didn't know what to do! Was this really even happening? Was this real?
You know, never would I have thought that I'd go to school one day and end up making out with one of my best friends. Not only that, but for that best friend to be a girl. And you know what's weird?
I had no intention to stop it.
Closing my eyes, I let it continue, feeling our mouths move in sync with one another. But the fear of being caught here like this, suddenly went to the front of my mind, and I had to push her away.
"W-Wha...?" I stammered, coming back to reality after whatever the hell had just happened. Taylor seemed shocked too, questioning as to why she did what she did.
"T-Taylor...? Why did you...? I mean, did you...? You just... You just kissed me?"
She ran her hands through her hair, panicked.
"S-Sam... I-- I'm sorry-- I--" She started crying again. "Oh god, you're gonna hate me now, aren't you? I'm sorry Sam! I didn't mean to-- I mean, I wanted to kiss you b-but I--"
"It's... It's fine..." I managed to get out. "I just didn't know you were... Like that, that's all."
"O-Oh..."
"I don't mean that in a mean way." I explained. "I... I think that's cute, that you can like someone the same... Gender as you but... Tay, I'm not..." I paused. "I'm not gay..."
"I know..." She sighed, looking down at the ground sadly. "I kind of got that when you started flirting with Jack... That's why I'm upset, Sam. I already think I like you... Because you're like, the first person in forever who has actually been there to listen to me and to give me a chance." She frowned. "But now I've probably gone and fucked it all up, like I was expecting to do eventually... So you're free to hate me now..."
How could I hate her? It wasn't her fault... I wish she wouldn't be so hard on herself...
"Taylor, it's okay... I'm shocked but, I don't hate you... It's not your fault if you like me like that. That's just who you are." I sighed. She slowly nodded.
"Still... I'm sorry..." She paused. "C-Can we make sure this stays just between me and you...?" She stuttered. I nodded in agreement. That probably was for the best.
"A-Anyway... I'm gonna... Go to my next lesson now, Sam. I guess I'll see you..."
"Uh, yeah..." I said, allowing her to walk past and leave the room without other word.
What just happened...? I felt so terrible for having to do that to Taylor... I didn't know she would've fallen in love with me. Hell, I didn't even know she was into girls - not that there was anything wrong with that.
But there was still a question on my mind.
Why did it seem like I allowed it to happen...?
